FLASH REPORT #59: POPULATION DISPLACEMENT DTM North West/North Central Nigeria Nigeria 28 JUNE - 04 JULY 2021 Aected Population: Damaged Shelters: Casualties: Movement Trigger: 1,241 Individuals 12 40 Armed attacks OVERVIEW AFFECTED LOCATIONS Nigeria's North Central and North West Zones are afflicted with a mul�dimensional crisis that is rooted in long-standing tensions between ethnic and religious groups and involves a�acks by criminal groups and banditry/hirabah (such as kidnapping and grand larceny along major highways). The crisis has accelerated during the past NIGER REPUBLIC years because of the intensifica�on of a�acks and has resulted in widespread displacement across the region. Between 28 June and 04 July 2021, armed clashes between herdsmen and farmers, and bandits and local communi�es have led to new waves of popula�on displace- Sokoto Jibia ment. Following these events, rapid assessments were conducted by DTM 202 (Displacement Tracking Matrix) field staff with the purpose of informing the humanitarian community and government partners, and enable targeted response. Flash reports u�lise direct observa�on and a broad network of key informants to Katsina gather representa�ve data and collect informa�on on the number, profile and Jigawa immediate needs of affected popula�ons. Gummi Zamfara Tsafe The latest a�acks affected 1,241 individuals including 30 injuries and 40 fatali�es in 48 Kano Faskari, Jibia and Bakori LGAs of Katsina state, Gummi and Maru LGAs of Zamfara Faskari Bakori Fakai Maru State and Birnin Gwari LGA of Kaduna state. The a�acks caused people to flee to 34 neighbouring localities. The individuals who le� Maru LGA in Zamfara State had Kebbi 185 Fakai LGA as their intended des�na�on, a neighbouring LGA located in the state of 72 Kebbi. The individuals that le� Gunmi LGA had Tsafe LGA as their intended des�na- �on, also located in Zamfara State.
