Yanagida Abstract We study the origin of baryonic matter via leptogenesis in realistic SO(10) models, in particular, in a new lopsided mass matrix model introduced recently by three of the authors. It is shown that the model generates sufficient baryon asymmetry in addition to fitting to fermion masses and mixing. We compare this result with other realistic SO(10) models. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. 1. Introduction One of the most fundamental questions in modern cosmology is where the baryon number asymmetry in today’s Universe comes from. It is an attractive idea to assume that it arises dynamically in a symmetric big-bang model through C and CP violating processes out of thermal equilibrium. Of the several proposals that use this scenario, leptogenesis [1] has emerged as one of the most interesting scenarios for baryon generation. Here the baryon number is produced through the so-called sphaleron processes from a residual lepton number density left over from an early stage of the universe through lepton number violating decays of right-handed neutrinos. Such connection is extremely interesting since the same heavy right-handed neutrinos are also important ingredients for understanding the small left-handed neutrino masses through the so-called see-saw mechanism [2]. -

Obtuvo la maestría en filosofía de la ciencia en 2005 y el grado de doctora en esta misma área en 2009, también en la UNAM. Ha realizado estancias de investigación en el Departamento de Filosofía de la Universidad de California, en Davis, en el Instituto Max Planck de Historia de la Cienda de Berlín y en el Departamento de Investigaciones Educativas del CINVESTAV- IPN. Está vinculada al Laboratorio de Estudios Sociales de la Ciencia de la Facultad de Ciencias de la UNAM, donde se ha desempeñado como docente desde 2002. De 2010 a 2013, fue investigadora asodada en antropología social en la Universidad de Manchester, Inglaterra. Su investigadón combina la historia, la filosofía y los estudios sociales de la biología reciente y contemporánea. Understanding the energy depositions from backgrounds or calibration sources in these detectors is very important. The program of BambooMC is created to perform the Geant4-based Monte Carlo simulation, providing reference information for the experiments. We introduce the design and features of BambooMC in this report. The running of the program depends on a configuration file, which combines different detectors, event generators, physics lists and analysis packs together in one simulation. -

001-026_Pres_High_Annual Report_2009 template 7/12/11 9:59 AM Page 6 from the 2010 Annual Report Highlights of the Year Research Research at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) has a major impact in the areas on which our principal investigators focus: cancer, neuroscience, plant biology, and quantitative biology. It has often been noted that our influence is especially remarkable for an institution of CSHL’s compar- atively small size. A recent survey by the respected science publisher Thompson Reuters in fact placed CSHL first in a group of 20 “heavy hitters” in molecular biology and genetics, selected from among 42,000 research institutions worldwide. During the first decade of the 21st century, research papers based on work conducted in CSHL laboratories had more impact—as measured by their frequency of citation by peers—than papers originating in any other institution, including the Mas- sachusetts Institute of Technology, the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, Memorial Sloan-Ket- tering Cancer Center, The Rockefeller University, and Harvard University. This survey is not the only measure of our worth or that of any institution, but it does suggest the power of the work being performed at CSHL and its relevance, as measured by those who use it—our colleagues at laboratories throughout the nation and across the globe. Together, we are en- gaged in a vital enterprise, in which we bring all of our intellectual skills and technical ingenuity to bear on fundamental questions of biology and generate knowledge that forms the basis for biomed- icine to move forward in its mission to relieve the major causes of human suffering. -
