East Carolina University 6 2019 Soccer Fact Book Head Coach Jason Hamilton Jason Hamilton, who served as Mississippi State Associate Head Soccer Coach in 2017, was named the fourth head coach in ECU women’s soccer history on Dec. 11, 2017.

In his debut season in Greenville, Hamilton led the Pirates back to the postseason for the first time since the 2015 season. ECU went 10-6-3 in 2018 which was the most wins for a Pirate squad since 2014. The Pirates also advanced past SMU in the AAC Championship First Round and played in the AAC Champion- ship Semifinals for the first time since that same 2014 season.

Postseason honors rolled in for the Pirates. Courtney Cash became the first ECU player to be honored by the AAC for the third time, as she was named American Athletic Conference Second-Team for the second consecutive season. Joining Cash on the second-team was Jayda Hylton-Pelaia. Grace Doran was also hon- ored by the conference, earning a spot on the league’s All-Rookie Team.

While at Mississippi State the Bulldogs had their best season in 16 years going 9-5-4 en route to their first winning season since 2012 and first top-50 RPI finish in program history. Three Bulldogs were named All- SEC for the first time, a program first, and Mallory Eubanks became State’s first SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was selected 17th overall in the 2018 NWSL Draft. Postseason honors continued to roll in as three Bulldogs were named National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) All-Southeast Region and goalkeep- er Catalina Perez was named Third Team All-America by the NSCAA – the first all-America selection in Mississippi State’s 23-year history.

Coach Hamilton at a Glance ECU will be Hamilton’s second head coaching position at the NCAA Division I level after guiding Troy (Ala.) University to a 37-19-5 record from 2014 to 2016. The Trojans set a program single-season record College: Detroit Mercy, 2005 for wins with a 16-6 mark and a Sunbelt Conference Tournament runner-up finish in 2014, his first year at Spouse: Hannah Hamilton the helm. From 2014-15, his Trojans ranked among the top-20 in defense and earned back-to-back top-100 Children: Robert “James” RPI rankings. Hamilton has the highest winning percentage of any coach in the program’s 23-year history and the only coach to post a winning record in their tenure. Playing Experience Level School (Years) Hamilton began his collegiate coaching career at University of Miami (Fla.), where he served as the Hurri- College Macomb College (2000) canes’ assistant coach from 2011-2013. During his time at UM, the Canes appeared in back-to-back NCAA College Detroit Mercy (2002-04) Tournaments in 2011 and 2012, and earned the highest GPA in the Atlantic Coast Conference, and highest Professional Windsor Border Stars in program history, in 2011. He was also instrumental in bringing in back to back top 15 recruiting classes.

Coaching Experience He left Miami for the of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) where he was an assistant coach in 2013. While with the Breakers, he coached NWSL Best XI Player and Year School Position Second XI Player Lianne Sanderson. The 2013 season saw Boston’s best finish in the NWSL and best record 2011-2013 Miami (Fla.) Assistant Coach to date. 2013 Boston Breakers Assistant Coach 2013 Florida Assistant Coach 2014-2016 Troy (Ala.) Head Coach Hamilton joined the University of Florida in 2013 where he helped the Gators to a SEC regular season 2017 Mississippi State Associate Head Coach championship and a NCAA Tournament second-round appearance. While in Gainesville, he created and 2017-pres. ECU Head Coach implemented a curriculum for UF’s goalkeepers, while overseeing the team’s defense that set program records in shutouts (13) and goals against average (0.61).

ead oaching ecord H C R Along with his responsibilities at ECU, he serves as the head coach for US Youth Soccer Region III Olympic Year School Overall Conference Development program. There he works with the oldest age group of players from the region, selecting a 2014-2016 Troy (Ala.) 37-19-5 15-10-3 team to compete in the US Youth Soccer inter-regional tournament as well as travelling out of the country 2018-pres. East Carolina 10-6-3 5-4-0 for competition. Career 5th Season 47-25-8 20-14-3 .638 .622 As a player, Hamilton was a midfielder for Macomb College in Clinton Charter Township, Mich. The team advanced to the 2000 NJCAA Final Four with Hamilton earning a spot on the NJCAA Final Four All-Tour- nament Team. He was also an All-Conference First Team and All-Region Team selection.

Hamilton transferred to the University of Detroit Mercy and played goalkeeper during his sophomore and junior seasons. As a senior, Hamilton moved back onto the field and was a captain.

After graduation, Hamilton spent three seasons with the Windsor Border Stars in the Canadian Professional Soccer League and one in the American Indoor Soccer League, capturing two Canada Cup titles and one AISL title.

Hamilton earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Detroit Mercy in 2005. He also has several diplomas and licenses from the NSCAA, the United States Soccer Federation and the United States Sports Academy.

A native of St. Clair Shores, Mich., Hamilton is married to the former Hannah Mason - a graduate of East Carolina University and native of Laurinburg, N.C. They have one son, Robert “James” and reside in Greenville.

East Carolina University 7 2019 Soccer Fact Book Assistant Coach Brad Keller Brad Keller was named an assistant coach for the ECU women’s soccer program in February of 2018.

“I am very excited to add Brad to our staff,” Hamilton said. “He will be very impactful to each of our stu- dent athletes in their time here at ECU. Brad brings a great knowledge of the game that will help push the program in the direction we want it to go. He also has a tremendous work rate when it comes to recruiting and brings a great ability to identify players not only that excel on the field but have the highest character off the field, which is key to being successful in this program.”

In his first season in Greenville, Keller helped guide the Pirates to a 10-6-3 record and an appearance in the AAC Championship Semifinals. Under his guidance, Jayda Hylton-Pelaia and Courtney Cash were named to the AAC All-Conference Second-Team while Grace Doran was named to the All-Conference Rookie Team.

Prior to coming to ECU, Keller spent two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Vermont. Keller helped guide the Catamounts to a 9-9-2 record and a spot in their first-ever America East Conference tournament championship game in 2017.

The 2016 Vermont squad made its second consecutive trip to the semifinal round of the America East Tournament - a first for the program. Three players earned America East honors – Sarah Martin landed was a Second Team All-Conference selection while Julia Smith and Brooke Jenkins made the All-Rookie Team. It marked the 12th straight season where a new Cat had garnered All-Rookie honors. In net, junior Coach Keller at a Glance keeper Coco Speckmaier finished the season tied for the ninth-best goals-against average in program histo- ry at 1.05. She also cracked the top-10 in shutouts (6) and shattered the minutes played record (1,802). College: Washington ’10 Playing Experience Keller arrived at Vermont after one season as a member of the women’s soccer coaching staff at the Univer- sity of New Mexico. Level School (Years) College Washington (2007-10) Keller has a rich soccer background. He served as the girl’s head coach at Desert Mountain High School in Professional Phoenix FC Wolves (USL) Scottsdale, Arizona from 2013-15 and was head coach of multiple teams for the Sereno Soccer Club from Professional Centro de Alto Rendimiento FC 2012-15.

Coaching Experience A native of Scottsdale, Keller played one year of professional soccer for his hometown Phoenix FC Wolves of the United Soccer League in 2013 and also competed for the Centro de Alto Rendimiento Futbol Club in Year School Position Cancun, Mexico. 2013-15 Desert Mountain HS Head Coach 2012-15 Sereno Soccer Club Head Coach Keller played collegiately at the University of Washington from 2007-10. He appeared in 64 games, in the 2015 Univ. of New Mexico Assistant Coach Huskies’ backfield. East Carolina University 8 2019 Soccer Fact Book Assistant Coach Emily Buccilla Emily Buccilla joined the staff in March of 2018 when she was announced as an assistant coach.

In her first season in Greenville, Buccilla helped guide the Pirates to a 10-6-3 record and an appearance in the AAC Championship Semifinals, marking the first time since 2014 that ECU had achieved those feats. Under her guidance, Jayda Hylton-Pelaia and Courtney Cash were named to the AAC All-Conference Second-Team while Grace Doran was named to the All-Conference Rookie Team.

Buccilla spent the prior four seasons as an assistant women’s soccer coach at Stetson University.

“I am very excited to add Emily to our staff,” Hamilton said. “She has been part of a strong Stetson program that has grown during her time there and allowed her to learn and develop as a coach under strong lead- ership. She brings a good balance to our staff on the field, as she will work with our attacking players. Her ability to see the big picture of the game will allow our players to be able to learn from her on a daily basis. Emily will also be a great role model to our athletes and have an immediate impact on them as they prepare to be successful after their time as a student-athlete.”

Buccilla was specifically responsible for working with Stetson’s attackers during her time in DeLand. Her work with Sarah Collins helped her turn in a historic season in 2015 when she tied the school record with 12 goals and earned first-team All-Atlantic Sun Conference honors.

Prior to her time at Stetson, she served as the girls’ head varsity coach at Canal Winchester High School in Coach Buccilla at a Glance Winchester, Ohio. In addition to her duties at CWHS, Buccilla also coached the Barcelona Ohio FC U12 & U13 club teams. College: St. Bonaventure ’12 Playing Experience Buccilla has been coaching since graduating from St. Bonaventure University with a bachelor’s degree in visual arts in 2012. She spent one year as head coach of the U12 Pickerington (Ohio) Blast, and was the as- Level School (Years) sistant girls track coach at Ridgeview Junior High and the junior varsity girls’ soccer coach at Pickerington College St. Bonaventure (2009-12) North High School.

“We are very excited about adding Courtney to our staff,” Hamilton said. “She brings a lot of passion in regard to goalkeeping and is very eager to learn and grow as a coach. She understands what it takes to make it in this profession and has the potential to be very successful. Everyone we spoke with about Courtney praised her leadership and positive attitude, which will be great to add to our program.”

Hofer spent the 2018-19 season playing professionally for Empoli FC in Italy. Empoli FC plays in Serie B, the second highest professional league in Italian soccer.

Prior to her time in Italy, Hofer played at Connecticut in her final year of collegiate eligibility. In Storrs, Hofer was a team captain and appeared in 10 games, all as a goalkeeper. She finished the season sixth in the AAC in saves per game (4.40) and 10th in both total saves (44) and goals against average (1.70).

Hofer started her collegiate career at Texas Christian University. During her three seasons with the Horned Frogs, Hofer appeared in 24 games in goal. She helped TCU make the first NCAA Tournament in program history during the 2016 season.
