Guiding The Expanding Role of the Foundation Finally, to better meet the expanding responsibilities of guiding the Foundation on a daily basis, the position of executive director was created in 2015. Rebecca Wyatt, a Lake Park alum with both Foundation and non- profit experience, replaced Jennifer Jungel as the Foundation’s executive director. The executive director position has been instrumental in helping the Foundation develop its programs and better meet emerging needs to ensure that the Foundation remains a dynamic organization.

The Future - 2019 and Beyond

Setting a Course for the Future

The Foundation looks forward to not only continue but expand on the progress it has made over the last several years. To help guide its efforts, the Foundation recently worked with SCORE, a group providing no-cost strategic planning services for non-profit organizations, and last year worked with Elmhurst College marketing students to develop a marketing plan for the Foundation. By implementing the strategic and marketing plans, the Foundation seeks to expand its profile within the Lake Park community, increase financial support for its activities and programs, and expand services to meet the evolving needs of Lake Park students, staff, and the school district.

Expanding Partnerships One of the Foundation’s most exciting goals for the future is to actively pursue partnerships, such as those established with the Lake Park Robotics Club and the school’s Transition Assistance Program, to provide a stable source of funding for teacher/department needs. As part and parcel of this effort, the Foundation is looking to establish a new partnership in 2019-20 with the school’s Business Department to provide seed funding for a business incubator program that will provide students with an opportunity to create and fully develop their own product or service under the guidance of practicing Students at VEX Robotics entrepreneurs and business experts. The Foundation will Competition TAP Students Volunteering at also provide support for a Robotics Club tournament at an Autism Walk Lake Park High School in November 2020.

Reaching Out to Alumni Another focus area for the Foundation is improving alumni relations. Using donations from alumni and various class reunion committees, the Foundation has established a fund to provide annual scholarships to students in the name of Lake Park alumni. Beyond this, the various efforts described above, and coordinating the publication of four Alumni Directories over the past 20 years, the Foundation would like to take advantage of the expertise of the school’s alumni by bringing them back to school to meet with students and to serve as a resource to enhance teachers’ classroom efforts and student career planning.

30 Years and Growing Clearly, the Foundation has made great strides in its first 30 years, but it is only a beginning. By being fiscally responsible and dedicated to its mission, the Foundation is committed to doing bigger and better things in the future as it seeks to have an even greater impact on those who call Lake Park home.

Matthew Sullivan is a technology and engineering teacher and the school’s Robotics Club sponsor. He is also a consistent contributor to the Foundation. Q. What were you able to do in robotics because of the support of the Foundation? A. The Lake Park High School Vex Robotics Club has been profoundly impacted by the Foundation.
