CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2016 ESTATE GROWN BAROSSA VALLEY, SOUTH AUSTRALIA VINEYARD NOTES This wine is a selection of 3 unique premium Rosenvale vineyards in the northern aspect of the Barossa. Our Vine Vale Sands vineyard on Brown/red clay sand mix on white sand over yellow, red, brown clay planted in 1990. The Rosenzweig Vineyard planted in 1969 in Brown sandy loam over red clay with a deeper alkaline soft stone red clay mix and select rows from the Highway One Vineyard with a soil profile of red brown earth over red clay provides the Estate Grown Cabernet with a diverse spectrum from Appellation each site feathering the palate with layers of richness and character. Vine Vale Sands These vines enjoy a small amount of additional food and Vineyard Rosenzweig Vineyard supplementary water to help maintain then on tough days. HarvestDates March 14, 24 & April 14 HARVEST NOTES Varietals The 2015/16 growing season yielded a warm, dry, Spring, with good Cabernet Sauvignon conditions for flowering and fruit-set. A fortuitous 1.5 inches of rain fell from 21 January, followed by generally mild conditions throughout late SkinContact January/February. On 9 March, another 1.5 to 2.5 inches of rain fell, after 8, 9, 11 & 13 days which sugar levels dipped slightly. A warmer than average Spring and early (4 Fermenters) summer (October – December maximum temps were 2-5C warmer than Aging average) meant the vines got away at a cracking pace, growing well and 24 months in French oak setting a good number of bunches. Barrel This parcel was fermented in 4 open ferments with 2 plunged and all twice daily ReleaseDate pump overs and gently pushing down the cap, 8,9,11 & 13 days on skins. May 2018 After ferment is done, we press the juice from the skins with our computer controlled open slot air bag press to barrel. The wine undergoes malolactic Head of Winemaking fermentation then we rack and return to barrel for maturation. 2018 Barossa Valley Merlot the Vineyard the Three Springs Vineyard Is Where the Original Schild Family Estate Is Located
Schild Estate Wines are created with an authenticity and passion that comes from generations of a family who have made their home in the Southern Barossa. 2018 Barossa Valley Merlot The Vineyard The Three Springs vineyard is where the original Schild family estate is located. Situated on historic Narrow Road at Rowland Flat, this vineyard sits at 380 metres above sea level. Vineyards at this altitude are traditionally much lower yielding than vineyards planted on the Barossa Valley floor meaning the grapes from these vines are regarded as higher quality fruit. The Vintage Reasonable spring and winter rain saw adequate soil moisture during the growing season with healthy canopies heading into the growing season. January and February were dry, slowing the pace of ripening down and keeping yields lower than initially predicted. Moisture and canopy management were therefore key to reducing stress and maintaining health. When that was achieved the red wines produced from the region in 2018 are of high quality and showing genuine promise early on. Technical Notes This wine is fermented in stainless steel open fermenters before undergoing secondary malolactic fermentation in new and seasoned French oak hogsheads. There is a focus on minimal handling and the use of oak for structural framing rather than imparting significant oak flavour. The wine is matured for 12- 14 months in barrel before usually undergoing a light filtration and fining if deemed appropriate prior to bottling. Tasting Notes Dark bright ruby in colour. An inviting almost silky nose is marked by prominent fruit aromas of plum, dark cherry and raspberry which float above and around more subtle glimpses of vanilla bean and clove and nutmeg spice.

Schild Estate Wines are created with an authenticity and passion that comes from generations of a family who have made their home in the Southern Barossa. 2016 Barossa Valley Grenache Mourvèdre Shiraz The Vineyard The Three Springs Vineyard is located alongside the original Schild Family Estate. Planted in 1929 the grenache vines are classified as ‘Survivour Vines’ in the Barossa Valley Old Vine Charter. The mourvédre for this wine is grown in ‘Kleeman’s Block’ where vines grown high on the Eastern Hills overlooking Rowland Flat. Shiraz is taken from our ‘Workshop’ and ‘Angus Brae’ vineyards taking premium fruit from each to blend into our GMS. The Vintage A mild, December and January with cool nights saw ideal conditions prevail towards the end of the 2016 growing season. The result was a measured pace of ripening which ensured the balanced development of sugar and flavours in the fruit along with the retention of natural grape acid before some later season warmth allowed some real fruit presence to develop. Technical Notes Each variety is fermented separately in stainless steel open fermenters. Ferment temperatures are a touch lower than for our other reds and oak is used sparingly with a desire to retain some fruit freshness and softness to the wine. Tasting Notes Clear, bright dark ruby in colour. Prominent lifted, aromas of dark cherries, plums and red currants that sit alongside slightly more subtle glimpses of some darker fruit, violet flower perfume and pepper spice. The vibrant red and dark berry juicy fruit mix of Grenache and Shiraz shows early on the palate providing a pillowy, velvet like feel to the wine early on.

Porter, Microeconomics of Competitiveness, Harvard Business School 1 Executive Summary Australia has historically benefitted from economic growth premised on its rich natural endowments, despite its relative isolation from Old World markets. While service-related sectors have emerged as growing portions of the economy, commodities continue to comprise a disproportionate fraction of the economy relative to OECD averages. A series of economic reforms enacted between 1983-96 opened a comparatively protected economy to international competition, with significant gains to labour productivity and international trade. Despite attempts to revive structural reforms, political impasse and continued economic growth premised on endowments, have thwarted further reform. It is argued that Australia must address its consistently inflexible labour markets, declining labour productivity, comparatively low rates of innovation, and an increasing skills misalignment relative to demand to lift the country onto higher development path. South Australia is Australia’s fifth largest economy, correlated with its fifth largest population. Through the course of the twentieth century, the state’s economy transitioned from one premised on agriculture and extraction, to manufacturing. While the state remains the national breadbasket, this report argues that the state must address labour productivity rates below that of the national average, a skills misalignment, the lack of collaboration across the value chain, and the potentially devastating effects on agriculture on the part of climate change, to mitigate weaknesses and improve regional competitiveness. The South Australian wine cluster constitutes the largest producer and exporter of wines in Australia.
