Paper provides the means of recording, storage, and dissemination of information; virtually all writing and printing are done on paper. It is the most widely used wrapping and packaging material and is important for structural applications. Despite the continued focus on digitization, Iran's demand for paper is expected to rise 50 per cent in the next five years, increasing population and literacy rate, improvement in manufacturing sector and current lifestyle are speeding up the growth. “ The Third International Exhibition of Paper, Cardboard, Cellulose Products & related Machinery (PCCM 2020)” event has become trusted platform for business transaction. This event is attended by large gathering of Paper Manufacturers to explore the New Technology, Machinery & Equipment and raw material for paper & cardboard Manufacturing. Considering the focus of paper industry should be shifted towards more eco-friendly products and technology, Also the mass audience of Paper Traders, Printers, Publisher, Converter and Paper Packaging Companies are to explore the vast variety of papers at the show. Furthermore as we mentioned above with regard to the focus of paper industry towards more eco-friendly products and technology , the disposable containers raw material suppliers, and manufacturers will participate in PCCM 2020. There are many advantages of using paper containers over plastic and Styrofoam. First of all, paper is microwave safe. It is made from natural trees with little foreign material added so it is the least complex material we use. Crumpling is easiest with paper, which makes it more compactable. Due to its natural state, it is also the cleanest and fastest biodegradable material of the three. This is very good for the environment. Paper is the leading material that ends up as solid waste. Fortunately, not including yard waste, paper is the fastest decomposing material that ends up as waste. It is also the easiest to recycle by simply mixing water and grinding up paper, a pulp can be made which can be added with other materials to make all paper materials. This is because paper is made of natural trees. Certain trees have either smooth or rough cellulose fibers. By using different mixing ratios, any type of paper that is desired can be made because they were once trees, paper cups or any other paper product decompose in the environment in the shortest amount of time and therefore, should be used more compared to plastic and Styrofoam cups. | P a g e 11 Some of the most important benefits of using these disposable cups are elaborated below. Eco-friendly | P a g e 11 As these containers are basically made of disposable material, it decomposes quite easily. It is also easy to recycle this material. Moreover, it is easy to crumple these disposable containers compared to the plastic ones. Hence it is Eco Friendly product. Biodegradable Biodegradable meaning they break down over a period without harming the environment. The product is capable of being decomposed by the action of biological agents, especially bacteria. Material that is left to itself will be decomposed by natural processes. The use of biodegradable packaging is supposed to reduce the volume of waste in landfills. It is made of natural trees and so it does not contain any toxic element. Plastic containers, however, don't degrade for many years. Because of the significant volume of containers produced, the impact on landfills is also a concern. Recyclable These disposable cups or containers are recyclable. A pulp can be made with a mixture of paper and water. This pulp can be used to manufacture paper board once again. | P a g e 12 Safe Compared to the plastic and Styrofoam containers or cups, these cups are safe to use while consuming hot and cold beverages. Light Weight Most of the people prefer to use these containers as it is light in weight. It can therefore be carried around quite easily. Different types of beverage dispensers/vending machines are used in hospitals, restaurants and offices that help to store and dispense beverages. These dispensers are available in different varieties.

The main advantages are lightness, recyclability and low cost. This makes the material the best choice to produce containers devoted to the shipping of goods. Furthermore examples of structure design based on corrugated boards can be found in different fields. Structural analysis of paperboard components is a crucial topic in the design of containers. It is required to investigate their strength properties because they have to protect the goods contained from lateral crushing and compression loads due to stacking. However in this paper complete and detailed information are presented. Keywords: - corrugated boards, recyclability, compression loads. Smaller flutes offer printability advantages as well as I. INTRODUCTION structural advantages for retail packaging. Corrugated board is essentially a paper sandwich consisting of corrugated medium layered between inside II. HISTORY and outside linerboard. On the production side, corrugated In 1856 the first known corrugated material was patented is a sub-category of the paperboard industry, which is a for sweatband lining in top hats. THE USE OF OLD CORRUGATED BOARD IN THE MANUFACTURE OF HIGH QUALITY WHITE PAPERS by Rene' H. Kapik A Thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the course requirements for The Bachelor of Science Degree Western Michigan University Kalamazoo, Michigan December, 1983 ABSTRACT Clean corrugated board waste was fractionated into its softwood/ hardwood fiber components, repulped using a kraft pulping process, and bleached using a CEHD bleaching sequence in an effort to produce high brightness fiber suitable for use in medium to high quality white paper. The papers produced had almost equivalent mechanical strengths and opacity, but possessed unsatisfactory brightness and cleanliness when compared to commercially manufactured,:. bleached kraft pulps of identical softwood/hardwood contents. Based on this experimental data, the use of recycled fiber from corrugated board as a fiber substitute in the manufacture of high quality printing and writing papers is not recommended due to its inferior brightness and cleanliness.

  • Making Paper from Stone
MAKING PAPER FROM STONE INNOVATIVE GREEN PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY FROM CHINA By Xi Fang The current paper production still depends much on the exploitation of wood material, which contributes to the phenomenon of deforestation and degrading our living environment. A company in China, however, developed a revolutionary paper material made of ore powder and non- toxic resin, colloquially called stone paper. The Jiuding Environmental Paper Co. Ltd was founded in 2009 with its headquarter in Shanghai and a 70,000 m2 factory area in the beautiful Buddhist shrine under the Jiuhua Mountain. Collaborating with Chinese universities, the company has achieved the invention and development of technologies related to the production of paper based on stone. The first phase of stone paper uses mainly calcite stone as the raw material, cutting it into particles and blending it with other 10 materials. Similar to non-wood paper, the Jiuding Company is developing non-wood plank, as well, using calcium carbonate as key material. The unique technology of the Company allows a production of paper without wood, rather, with educing calcium carbonate (CaCO3) as the main raw material, together with other non-toxic excipients, through the physical method of synthesis, which reduces significantly the dependence of current paper production industry on wood and contributing to the protection of environment. Moreover, the general cost of stone paper is even lower than normal paper, and stone paper is water-proof, flexible and invulnerable in terms of physical characters. The material of rich mineral paper keeps sufficient supply and stable cost. According to the data of the company, replacing 1 ton of wood paper with stone paper, it is possible to prevent 20 trees from being cut down, saving 7480 gallons of water and 6 million BTU energy, avoiding 167 lbs solid waste, 42 lbs waste water and 236 lbs atmospheric emissions.

A little about us It only takes a couple of people to change an industry. We could kill trees too. But why should we have to? It’s possible to make paper without timber and water, without chlorine or acids, without waste, using only a third of the carbon footprint. So we did. Our paper is made of stone. It’s smoother, brighter, and more durable than traditional paper. We don’t compromise. Neither should you. We get a lot of questions about stone paper—qualities, environmental benefits, similarities to and differences from traditional wood pulp paper. These pages address all the queries you may have about our stone paper. Karst Stone Paper™ fact sheet What is Karst Stone Paper™? RELACT HISTORY, TECHNOLOGY, AND TREATMENT OF SPECIALTY PAPERS FOUND IN ARCHIVES, LIBRARIES AND MUSEUMS: TRACING AND PIGMENT-COATED PAPERS By Dianne van der Reyden (Revised from the following publications: Pigment-coated papers I & II: history and technology / van der Reyden, Dianne; Mosier, Erika; Baker, Mary , In: Triennial meeting (10th), Washington, DC, 22-27 August 1993: preprints / Paris: ICOM , 1993, and Effects of aging and solvent treatments on some properties of contemporary tracing papers / van der Reyden, Dianne; Hofmann, Christa; Baker, Mary, In: Journal of the American Institute for Conservation, 1993) ABSTRACT Museums, libraries, and archives contain large collections of pigment-coated and tracing papers. These papers are produced by specially formulated compositions and manufacturing procedures that make them particularly vulnerable to damage as well as reactive to solvents used in conservation treatments. In order to evaluate the effects of solvents on such papers, several research projects were designed to consider the variables of paper composition, properties, and aging, as well as type of solvent and technique of solvent application. This paper summarizes findings for materials characterization, degradative effects of aging, and some effects of solvents used for stain reduction, and humidification and flattening, of pigment-coated and modern tracing papers. Pigment-coated papers have been used, virtually since the beginning of papermaking history, for their special properties of gloss and brightness. These properties, however, may render coated papers more susceptible to certain types of damage (surface marring, embedded grime, and stains) and more reactive to certain conservation treatments. Several research projects have been undertaken to characterize paper coating compositions (by SEM/EDS and FTIR) and appearance properties (by SEM imaging of surface structure and quantitative measurements of color and gloss) in order to evaluate changes that might occur following application of solvents used in conservation treatments.

  • Cellulose Was Discovered in 1838 by the French Chemist Anselme Payen, Who Isolated It from Plant Matter and Determined Its Chemical Formula
Cellulose structure: The history of cellulose: Cellulose was discovered in 1838 by the French chemist Anselme Payen, who isolated it from plant matter and determined its chemical formula. Cellulose was used to produce the first successful thermoplastic polymer, celluloid, by Hyatt Manufacturing Company in 1870. Production of rayon ("artificial silk") from cellulose began in the 1890s and cellophane was invented in 1912. Hermann Staudinger determined the polymer structure of cellulose in 1920. The compound was first chemically synthesized (without the use of any biologically derived enzymes) in 1992, by Kobayashi and Shoda How it is synthesized commercially or biologically: Cellulose is a source of energy for several types of microbes. Large amounts of cellulose is degraded to glucose by both bacterial and fungal microbes. The glucose derived from cellulose degradation is then used by other microbes as a carbon source to produce energy. Many fungi, specifically the members of Basidiomycetes perform critical ecological function by degrading cellulose present in decaying wood. Some animals can digest cellulose. When an herbivore, say a cow, consumes a plant, like grass, bacteria in their intestinal tract are able to break down the cellulose into smaller parts that the cow's own digestive system can absorb. Some bacteria can actually produce their own cellulose, making a kind of film. The acetic acid bacteria used in the production of wine and beers is one of these types. The synthesized cellulose forms a film around the bacterial cell and becomes a kind of matrix, called a pellicle, which helps the acetic acid bacteria to float on the surface and access oxygen needed for their survival.

CHANGES IN PRINT PAPER DURING THE 19TH CENTURY AJ Valente, ([email protected]), President, Paper Antiquities When the first paper mill in America, the Rittenhouse Mill, was built, Western European nations and city-states had been making paper from linen rags for nearly five hundred years. In a poem written about the Rittenhouse Mill in 1696 by John Holme it is said, “Kind friend, when they old shift is rent, Let it to the paper mill be sent.” Today we look back and can’t remember a time when paper wasn’t made from wood-pulp. Seems that somewhere along the way everything changed, and in that respect the 19th Century holds a unique place in history. The basic kinds of paper made during the 1800s were rag, straw, manila, and wood pulp.
