About YOG The (YOG) is an international multi-sport event organized by the International Olympic Committee. The games are held every four years in staggered summer and winter events consistent with the current Olympic Games format. The first summer version was held in from 14 to 26 August 2010 while the first winter version was held in , from 13 to 22 January 2012. The age limitation of the athletes is 14 to 18. The last edition of the Summer YOG lasted 13 days. The IOC will allow a maximum of 3,530 athletes and 481 IOC accredited officials to participate in the Summer Games. The Games also feature a cultural exchange program and opportunities for participants to meet Olympic Athletes.

Over 200 countries and 3,600 athletes participated in the inaugural 2010 Summer Youth Olympic Games. Participants are placed in the following age groups for Equestrian Jumping – 17 -18 years. The Athlete is determined by how old he or she is by 31 December of the year they are participating in the YOG.

Education and culture are also key components for the Youth edition. All the participants will be connected through Olympic values of excellence, Friendship and Respect. They will experience cultural diversity, develop a healthy lifestyle and promoted the sustainable development of our world.

Another unique feature of the Youth Olympic Games are mixed-gender and mixed- national teams. Triathlon relays, fencing, table tennis, archery and mixed swimming relays are a few of the sports in which athletes from different nations and mixed genders can compete together. YOG organizers are also using social media such as Facebook, Flikr, and Twitter as key platforms for engaging young athletes before, during, and after each celebration of the Games. Multi-lingual, multi-cultural, and multi-age requirements are the targets of the program, which stress the themes of "Learning to know, learning to be, learning to do, and learning to live together.

Nanjing – 2014 - China

The IOC has invited China to host the second Summer YOG:  16th – 28th August 2014  There will be 15 different venues  Athletes (in Equestrian_ aged between 16 and 18 years  28 sports  Major Culture and Education Programme

Equestrian at YOG Equestrian is one of the 28 sports being offered at YOG in Nanjing – China.  YOG only includes Show Jumping and does not include Dressage or Eventing.  There are only 30 individual places – 1 rider per NOC.  YOG is a borrowed horse event.  2010 YOG received a Bronze Medal by one of our top and upcoming Young Riders Samantha McIntosh, who was also 4th in the individual just out of another medal position.  2010 YOG – The RSA Team received a total of 9 medals at the Games. (2 Gold, 4 Slver and 3 Bronze)

Qualification for Nanjing 2014 In order to be considered for selection as the RSA YOG Show Jumping representative at Nanjing YOG 2014, a rider needed to follow the below criteria:  Submit an Expression of Interest for YOG 2014 Long List. ( Deadline in 2013)  Be born between 1st January 1996 and 31st December 1997  Submitted relevant SASCOC forms, Passport copies and CV’s.  Have achieved a Certificate of Capability (CoC) at the South African leg of the FEI Challenge Category A competition in Kyalami 2013 by achieving not more than 8 penalties in the first round of this competition.
