Pg. 9 - Astoria. CRESCENT no longer meets on Thursday. But, Tuesday's Open Meeting at 8:00 P.M. is still open to all, including the general Public. - ASTORIA FRESH START has been discontinued. - ASTORIA SAFE & SOBER has added the former FRESH START Meeting on Monday (Closed at 12 Noon) to the others at the Episcopal Church location, 30-14 Crescent Street. Pg. 11 - BAYSIDE PRIMARY PURPOSE has discontinued the Friday 9:30 P.M. Meeting. Pg. 12 - College Point. FROM THE ASHES has a new time for the Sunday Closed Meeting - 6:00 P.M. instead of 6:30, and there is no longer a Big Book Meeting on Wednesday. The Sunday Beginners and Wednesday Closed schedules remain unchanged. Pg. 13 - Flushing. AUBURNDALE GROUP has consolidated their 2 Meetings on the last Wednesday of the month only into one Open Meeting at 7:30 P.M. No changes to other weeks. Pg. 15 - FOREST HILLS SURVIVORS (1) is not meeting at this time. They are looking for a new meeting place (most of Parkway Hospital closed). - The PARKSIDE GROUP is now called "MESSAGE ON METRO". Schedule and location haven't changed. Pg. 16 - Forest Hills. WOMEN LIVING IN THE SOLUTION holds a Big Book meeting at all times scheduled. (no Step Meeting on the First Tuesday). Pg. 17 - JACKSON HEIGHTS GROUP (II), meets on Wednesday at St Marks Parish House: 82nd Street & 34th Avenue has discontinued the 8:30 P.M. Closed Meeting. The 7 P.M. Step Meeting continues as usual. Pg. 18 - LITTLE NECK - DOUGLASTON Group has moved to The Community Church Of Douglaston, 39-50 Douglaston Parkway (11363) Meeting schedule remains the same, and is handicapped accessible. - Long Island City. IT WORKS IF YOU WORK IT has moved to the little white house in back of The Astoria Baptist Church, 31-17 21st Street (Zip 11106). The Meeting remains Closed on Saturdays at 6:00 P.M. - Jamaica South. Pg. 21 - Richmond Hill. THE BILL W. GROUP has added a Traditions Meeting on the last Friday of the month. Pg. 22 - Richmond Hill. THE VAN WYCK-KEW GARDENS GROUP has moved to the same location as the "Remember When" Group.: St. John's Lutheran Church Basement. 86-20 114th Street. All meetings are held on Tuesdays, 7:00 P.M. (various types - see their listing for details.) - UNIVERSAL SPRINGFIELD has been discontinued. - Rockaways. BELLE HARBOR GROUP now starts one hour earlier, at 8:00 P.M. instead of 9:00.     NEIGHBORHOODS A brief description by Community Board of Queens neighborhoods, current projects and local economic development organizations. COMMUNITY BOARD 1 Astoria, Old Astoria, Long Island City (north of Queens Plaza), Queensbridge, Ditmars, Ravenswood, Steinway, Garden Bay Across the East River from Manhattan they developed as villages encompassing both residential and emerging industries in the mid to late 1800’s. The Steinway Piano factory built one of the City’s first company towns complete with manufacturing plants, housing and community facilities in 1870. The opening of the Queensborough Bridge in 1909 was a major catalyst in the development of the area. After World War II a many housing developments; Queensbridge Houses, Ravenswood, Queensview and Garden Bay Manor were built. As major manufacturing shifted away from New York City the character of the community has evolved. There are still mid size and small factories as well as many service and distribution operation that benefit from the area’s central location and transportation system. The Entrepreneur’s Space - an incubator for Food & Business recently opened on 37th Street. Queens Plaza was rezoned to bring in residential uses that have transformed the area and brought in thousands of new residents. New infrastructure improvements will enhance the pedestrian and traffic areas. On the north side of Queens Plaza 1 Met Life Plaza is home to Met Life with JetBlue Airlines slated to relocate there. The new Gotham Center on the south side will soon to be home to operations of the New York City Department of Health. New hotels have been built around Queens Plaza that capitalizes on budget travelers.

Last Fall, members from several groups in Districts 306, 307 & 309 obtained seed money from Queens County General Service Assembly with the idea of renting out a meeting hall to show a film. Our Olde Office And show a film they did! On Saturday evening, th January 12 , over a hundred people crowded into the Poppenhusen Institute's meeting hall to see a film of our founder, Bill Wilson, in an interview at Steppingstones. n the Hotline was established over fifteen years ago, two The film, shot in the nineteen sixties on 16mm, was staged volunteers would come to the office, and they would take at the country house that Bill & Lois Wilson called home turns answering the calls. INTRODUCTION The New York rail and transit systems have been subject to change over the years due to the evolving transportation needs of the city. The continuing evolution and integration of the rail system has been facilitated by the joint ownership of both the New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA) and Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA.) The QueensLink Corridor, formerly known as the Rockaway Beach Branch (RBB) in Exhibit 1 is a currently disused segment of former LIRR rail line that has been lying idle since service ended in 1962, but the right of way is still in public ownership. QueensRail has worked to create QueensLink, a dual rail and park project and advocates for utilizing this alignment for both rail and trail use. QueensLink is the name for an ambitious, forward thinking, rail and trail project that will be built along the old RBB right-of-way.
