Now my favorite test. kindle, azw, pdf, epub Description: This extraordinary project has been made possible because Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr have agreed to tell their combined story especially for this book. Together with Yoko Ono Lennon, they have also made available the full transcripts (including all the outtakes) of the television and video series The Beatles Anthology. Through painstaking compilation of sources worldwide, John Lennon's words are equally represented in this remarkable volume. Furthermore, The Beatles have opened their personal and management archives specifically for this project, allowing the unprecedented release of photographs which they took along their ride to fame, as well as fascinating documents and memorabilia from their homes and offices. What a book The Beatles Anthology is! Each page is brimming with personal stories and rare vintage images. Snapshots from their family collections take us back to the days when John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Richard Starkey were just boys growing up in Liverpool. They talk in turn about those early years and how they came to join the band that would make them known around the world as John, Paul, George and Ringo. Then, weaving back and forth, they tell the astonishing story of life as The Beatles: the first rough gigs, the phenomenon of their rise to fame, the musical and social change of their heyday, all the way through to their breakup. From the time Ringo tried to take this drum kit home on the bus to their much anticipated audience with Elvis, from the making of the Sgt. Pepper album to their last photo session together at John's house, The Beatles Anthology is a once-in-a-lifetime collection of The Beatles' own memories. Interwoven with these are the recollections of such associates as road manager Neil Aspinall, producer George Martin and spokesman Derek Taylor. And included in the vast array of photographs are materials from both Apple and EMI, who also opened their archives for this project. This, indeed, is the inside story, providing a wealth of previously unpublished material in both word and image. Created with their full cooperation, The Beatles Anthology is, in effect, The Beatles' autobiography. Like their music has been a part of so many of our lives, it's warm, frank, funny, poignant and bold. At last, here is The Beatles' own story. London was a bigger than one of the and odd shows. THE BEATLES IMAGE: MASS MARKETING 1960s BRITISH AND AMERICAN MUSIC AND CULTURE, OR BEING A SHORT THESIS ON THE DUBIOUS PACKAGE OF THE BEATLES by Richard D Driver, Bachelor of Arts A Thesis In HISTORY Submitted to the Graduate Faculty of Texas Tech University in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of MASTER OF ARTS Approved Aliza S Wong Randy McBee John Borrelli Dean of the Graduate School May, 2007 Copyright 2007, Richard Driver Texas Tech University, Richard D Driver, May 2007 ACKNOWLEDGMENTS This work could not have been possible without the encouragement and guidance of a number of individuals, as well as countless persons who pulled books, worked through interlibrary loans, and simply listened to me talk about it. Without the guidance, tolerance, insight, time, and encouragement of my committee, Aliza S Wong and Randy McBee, this thesis would have remained nothing more than a passing thought. Aliza, more than any other professor has been there for me since this project truly began over two years ago. It was her initial push for me to write about something I loved that drove me to attend Graduate school and then build upon what I had done previously with The Beatles “image.” Dr. McBee provided excellent guidance into understanding many of the post-war American facets of this work, not simply those related to The Beatles or music in general. Additional thanks are reserved for Dr. Julie Willett for her class on sexuality and gender where new methods and modes of historical thought were founded in this work. Finally, this thesis would have been impossible had I not been accepted into and granted a teaching position in the History Department at Texas Tech University, and it is to the entire department that I owe my greatest thanks.

  • Early Beatles History: 1940-1964 Birth of the Beatles
MOVIES ABOUT THE BEATLES Early Beatles History: 1940-1964 Birth of The Beatles In 1978, Elvis – The Movie premiered on American television. The pro- duction was a dramatization of Elvis Presley’s life, featuring Kurt Rus- sell as Elvis. His unexpected death the year before had revived the public interest in ‘The King,’ and countless biographies invaded the market. The movie spawned several fictional and/or biographical films about po- pular culture icons, such as Buddy Holly (The Buddy Holly Story, 1978) and The Beatles (Birth of The Beatles, 1979). In the 1980s and 1990s, only a handful of pop biographies were successful at the box office, i. e. Luis Valdez’ La Bamba (1987) about Richie Valens, Oliver Stone’s The Doors (1991) and Iain Softley’s Backbeat (1993). More recently, Holly- wood has produced a string of highly successful TV and cinema biogra- phies of musical heroes. The most notable films and series are The Rat Pack (1998) about the lives and times of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr., Ray (2004) about Ray Charles, Stoned (2005) about The Rolling Stones’ Brian Jones, and – again – Elvis (2005). Starting with Birth of The Beatles, The Beatles’ history has been dramatized in various forms for television as well as for the cinema. While The Beat- les’ early group history has been dealt with in Birth of The Beatles (1979), Backbeat (1993), and In His Life: The John Lennon Story (2000), John Lennon’s private life was explored in John and Yoko: A Love Story (1985) and The Hours and Times (1991).

  • Review: the Beatles Anthology [Original Version Published In
Review: The Beatles Anthology [Original version published in German in the Badische Zeitung, 4 November 2000] For more than thirty-five years, the Beatles have credited their musical success to the long hours they spent playing in Hamburg, before they were discovered by Brian Epstein and then the rest of the world. Now it’s the official story: The Beatles Anthology (367 pp. Chronicle Books $60), the group’s collective ‘autobiography’ published October 5th, describes how their musical apprenticeship served on the Reeperbahn produced the sound that defined the 1960s and, arguably, popular music ever since. Told through the words of surviving band members Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, supplemented by extensive culling of old interviews with John Lennon, the history of the band is recounted from its beginnings as the Quarrymen in 1957 to the final acrimonious breakup in 1970. Like the television series and CD-sets to which it is a companion, Anthology is meant to be a picture of their life as a band from the inside—what it was like “in the eye of the hurricane,” as McCartney puts it. To hear the Beatles tell it, the seven-hour sets in Hamburg under pressure to “make a show” and bring in customers transformed their music, so much so that when they returned to England after their first stint in Hamburg, the world had its first taste of Beatlemania. Billed as “The Beatles—Direct from Hamburg!”, when they began playing in the Litherland Town Hall in Liverpool (27 December 1960), for the first time the crowd spontaneously rushed the stage in the frenzy that would become familiar in the succeeding years.

  • Each Thought Is Separated by Color for Ease of Reading
EACH THOUGHT IS SEPARATED BY COLOR FOR EASE OF READING The Beatles connected the thread of my childhood to my adulthood, and are the only band I’ve listened to consistently since birth. That’s probably the same for most people my age (26), but sadly, we are probably the last generation to be able to say this! Paul & John could go into a cave. Paul would write 100 songs, and every single one of them would be fantastic flawless (and kickass) songs. John would write maybe 60, and 40 of them would be great, 10 of them would be not so great, but 5 of them would cut you to the core and be the best thing you’d ever heard in your life, (and the only songs you’d ever need again). I've read a lot of stories but of all the world the Beatles story is the best and it really happened! I knew I became an adult and had emotionally matured a lot when I pulled my 2nd all-nighter ever reading the Beatles anthology. To be fair, it was right after returning from Japan when I still felt in a different timezone. But the point is, my first all-nighter was from emotional stress where I just lay in bed staring at the ceiling trying to sleep and suddenly it was 9am and I had to go to school. But this time it was a choice, and a pleasant, rewarding staying up all night experience. The history of the Beatles can be told just by Ringo’s face over the years: Exactly how I feel or try to feel most of the time: “I'm cynical about society, politics, newspapers, government.

  • George Martin's Role in The
TCNJ JOURNAL OF STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP VOLUME XIV APRIL 2012 GEORGE MARTIN’S ROLE IN THE BEATLES’ MUSIC Author: Roger Shan Faculty Sponsor: David Venturo, Department of English ABSTRACT AND INTRODUCTION Producers, engineers, and recording personnel enjoy a symbiotic relationship with artists. Working hand in hand with musicians, the production staff ensures that the performer‟s musical ideas are correctly translated onto playback material. As the Beatles‟ producer, George Martin played a vital role in capturing the group‟s sound—no easy task, given the group‟s frequent demands and the technological limitations of the era. Willing to experiment with recording techniques and tools to have a recording sound “just so,” Martin meshed perfectly with the Beatles‟ own penchant for pushing the limits. More than just capturing the Beatles‟ music, Martin, with a close group of engineers and recording personnel, facilitated the transition from idea to music. Combining his classical and technical experience with the Beatles‟ creativity, he helped create music that defied conventions and awed listeners. A relatively little-known producer at Parlophone before he began working with the Beatles, George Martin relied on his classical music training and technical knowledge in recording the group. Martin‟s musical acumen was long in the making. As a child, he took piano lessons and discovered many fundamental musical principles (Martin, All You Need, 15). As he recounts: “I was very excited when I discovered a new chord, and especially so one day when I realized there was a natural cycle of chords” (Martin 15). His curiosity and interests eventually led to performances in school and part-time gigs at local dance halls.
