Dechsakda [email protected] Follow this and additional works at: http://opensiuc.lib.siu.edu/gs_rp The er search paper was a study of how digital music distribution has affected the music industry by researching different views and aspects. I believe this topic was vital to research because it give us insight on were the music industry is headed in the future. Two main research questions proposed were; “How is digital music distribution affecting the music industry?” and “In what way does the piracy industry affect the digital music industry?” The methodology used for this research was performing case studies, researching prospective and retrospective data, and analyzing sales figures and graphs. Case studies were performed on one independent artist and two major artists whom changed the digital music industry in different ways. Another pair of case studies were performed on an independent label and a major label on how changes of the digital music industry effected their business model and how piracy effected those new business models as well. I analyzed sales figures and graphs of digital music sales and physical sales to show the differences in the formats. I researched prospective data on how consumers adjusted to the digital music advancements and how piracy industry has affected them. Last I concluded all the data found during this research to show that digital music distribution is growing and could possibly be the dominant format for obtaining music, and the battle with piracy will be an ongoing process that will be hard to end anytime soon.

    ‘Roll Over Beethoven’ — The Beatles’ Australian Tour Keith Moore Centre for Social Change Research School of Humanities and Human Services Queensland University of Technology Paper presented to the Social Change in the 21st Century Conference Centre for Social Change Research Queensland University of Technology 22 November 2002 1 ‘Roll Over Beethoven’ — The Beatles’ Australian Tour Keith Moore School of Humanities and Human Services Queensland University of Technology Popular mythology argues that in Australia, the sixties was ‘a once in a lifetime celebration of youthful rebellion’.1 The Beatles’ tour in 1964 was central to this social transformation, the controllers of public opinion further claim, as it set in motion a heightened morality exemplified by the later widespread condemnation of the Vietnam War and agitation for the empowerment of the disadvantaged. The evidence for such grand assertions is flimsy, however. During their 1964 tour, the Beatles exhibited almost no interest in social issues, did little to encourage or identify with teenage rebellion, and largely promoted ‘respectable’ bourgeois ‘boy meets girl’ and ‘poor boys make good’ social values. Although possessing charisma and talent, the Beatles were largely an advertising phenomenon — a product of slick marketing — rather than prophets of social change. Rock and Roll music had shocked a conservative Australia in the 1950s. The lyrics, the performers’ gestures and the behaviour of fans had challenged ‘the primacy of ‘nuclear family values, clean living and decent British restraint.’2 Perhaps such concerns were understandable, as Craig McGregor’s recollections of a Little Richard concert in Sydney during 1957 indicate: Little Richard!     WRITING ASSIGNMENT Record Review You are going to write a record review of an album that is deemed significant in Rock Music. A list of groups/artists can be accessed by clicking on link below http://www.rollingstone.com/ news/story/5938174/the_rs_500_greatest_albums_of_all_time Criteria: Title Page Name, word count, course number, section number, etc. Introduction: Write a biography of the group you're critiquing. This should include the year the group/artist began recording, a list of and year of recordings, billboard chart positions, and any awards, Grammys, etc. www.allmusic.com is a great source for biographical information. Section 1 You will need to include all of the specifics of the recording, record label, producer(s), year, and dates of recording. Listen to the album several times as if you were a record critic and write an overview of the album, i.e. style of music, mood, highlights, lowlights, etc. Here are some things to consider: Is there a unifying theme throughout the album? Are there contrasting themes? If so, what are they? Is there enough variety musically in your opinion? What is it about this album in particular that makes it stand out? Section 2 Pick four songs and discuss them in more detail. Discuss your likes and dislikes as we have in relation to the journal entries in class but you will need to go into more detail. Discuss any other elements you find compelling, i.e., imagery from the lyrics or lack thereof, the use of and/or role of instrumentation, tempos, solos, vocals, etc. Section 3 Summarize your experience.
