Playlist March 24th 2013 The Beatles…The Songs They Gave Away Hour #1 “One And One Is Two” – The Strangers w/Mike Shannon: Released as a Phillips single on May 8, 1964 in the U.K. only. The Beatles demo of this song from January 1964 was recorded live in a hotel room in Paris. It has surfaCed on some bootlegs and can also be heard in a BROW that was posted baCk in 2008. “From A Window” – Billy J. Kramer & The Dakotas: Released on a Parlophone single on July 17, 1964 in the U.K. and an Imperial single in the U.S. on August 12, 1964. The song was produCed by George Martin. John Lennon and Paul MCCartney attended the session on May 29, 1964 and although no Beatle-performed demos of this traCk have surfaCed, Paul MCCartney Can be heard singing the high G note at the end of the song himself (“…niiiight”) right on the record because Billy J. Kramer had trouble hitting the note. Nobody I Know” – Peter and Gordon: Released as a U.K. Parlophone single on May 29, 1964 and on Capitol in the U.S. on June 15, 1964. ReCorded by Peter and Gordon on January 21, 1964. The Beatles never reCorded this song. Paul likely just demoed it live and Peter and Gordon took it from there. “Like Dreamers Do” – The Applejacks: Released as a DeCCa U.K. single on June 5, 1964 and in the U.S. on the London label on June 6 ,1964. The most well-known Beatles demo of this was reCorded at their unsuCCessful New Year’s Day 1962 DeCCa audition. That reCording Can be heard on The Beatles Anthology 1 CD set. “I’ll Keep You Satisfied” – Billy J. Kramer & The Dakotas: This was released as a U.K. Parlophone single on November 1, 1963 and in the U.S. on the Liberty label on November 11, 1963. It was reCorded on OCtober 14, 1963 with John Lennon present at the session. George Martin aCted as produCer. Unfortunately, no Beatle-performed demos of this traCk have surfaCed. The Beatles - Do You Want To Know A Secret – Please Please Me (McCartney-Lennon) Lead vocal: George Recorded February 11, 1963. Written primarily by John Lennon for George Harrison to sing. The song was given to another Brian Epstein-managed act, Billy J. Kramer with the Dakotas, to cover. Their version topped the British charts in late spring 1963. Inspired by "I'm Wishing," a song from Walt Disney’s 1937 animated film “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” that Lennon’s mother used to sing to him when he was a child. On U.S. albums: Introducing… The Beatles - Vee-Jay LP The Early Beatles - Capitol LP BREAK “Love Of The Loved” – Cilla Black: Similar to “Like Dreamers Do” this was demoed by The Beatles for their 1962 DeCCa audition. All material from the DeCCa audition (15 songs) has been widely bootlegged. “Love Of The Loved” was one of three DeCCa audition reCordings to be Lennon-McCartney originals, the other two, “Like Dreamers Do” and “Hello Little Girl,” were featured on The Beatles Anthology 1 CD set. With this in mind, I plan to feature The Beatles’ version of “Love Of The Loved” in a future BROW. Released on a U.K. Parlophone single by Cilla on September 27, 1963. “I’m In Love” – The Fourmost: This one was first offered to Billy J. Kramer but ended up being reCorded by The Fourmost and released as a U.K. Parlophone single on November 15, 1963 and U.S. AtCo single on February 10, 1964. There is a bootlegged demo of John Lennon singing and playing an aCoustic demo of it reCorded between July and OCtober 1963. “Tip Of My Tongue” – Tommy Quickly: This one was release on a U.K. single under the PiCCadilly label on July 30, 1963. Tommy was managed by Beatles manager Brian Epstein. On November 26, 1962, when The Beatles attended a session with George Martin that ended up being the day they reCorded their first #1 “Please Please Me,” they started out by running through “Tip Of My Tongue.” Martin said it needed some work so they moved on to “Please Please Me” and “Ask Me Why.” Brian ended up giving “Tip Of The Tongue” to Tommy QuiCkly. The Beatles version reCorded on November 26 was either never reCorded or is lost. “Woman” – Peter and Gordon: This was written by Paul MCCartney under the alias Bernard Webb as an experiment to see if it would Chart without anyone seeing a Lennon-McCartney Composition Credit. It did end up reaChing #21 in the Melody Maker (U.K.) Chart. Although no known Beatles demo exists that was reCorded prior to the time it was Covered by Peter and Gordon, there is a few demos of it performed by Paul McCartney on January 14, 1969 during the ‘Get BaCk’ sessions that have shown up on various bootlegs. “Hello Little Girl” – The Fourmost: Released as a U.K. Parlophone single on August 30, 1963 and a U.S. AtCo single on November 15, 1963. This is another of the 3 Lennon-McCartney originals performed at the Jan. 1, 1962 DeCCa audition. It is available on the Beatles Anthology 1 CD set. The song is also the 22nd song on the seCond disC to the Beatles' Anthology 1.[1] The song follows the 24-bar blues format. Proby: Released as a U.K. single on September 17, 1965 on the Liberty label. The Beatles reCorded their own various demos of it in both February and MarCh 1965. A February 20 reCording appears on the CD set The Beatles Anthology 2. World Without Love” – Peter And Gordon: Released on a U.K. Columbia single on February 28, 1964 and a U.S. Capitol single on April 27, 1964. There is legendarily a Paul MCCartney demo of the song in the sole possession of Peter Asher. “I Don’t Want To See You Again” – Peter and Gordon: Released on a U.K. Columbia single on September 11, 1964 and on a U.S. Capitol single on September 21, 1964. Unfortunately, no Beatle-performed demos of this traCk have surfaCed. “I’ll Be On My Way” – Billy J. Kramer & The Dakotas: Released on a U.K. Parlophone single on April 26, 1963 and on a U.S. Liberty single on June 10, 1963. This was the B-side to “Do You Want To Know A Secret,” another Lennon-McCartney Cover by Billy. The only known Beatles demo of the song was reCorded for the BBC on April 4, 1963 shortly before Billy’s version was released. This Can be heard on the Beatles double CD set Live At The BBC. “It’s For You” – Cilla Black: Released on a U.K. Parlophone single on July 31, 1964 and U.S. Capitol single on August 17, 1964. Paul MCCartney Cut his own demo of the song on June 3, 1964 to give to Cilla and produCer George Martin. At present, this demo has not surfaced among ColleCtors. “I’m The Greatest” – Ringo Starr: Written by John Lennon and given to Ringo for his 1973 Ringo album. The version here is the same that appears on Ringo. Various bootlegs (suCh as the Lost Lennon Tapes) inClude 4 or 5 different aCCounts of John demoing this with his own lead voCal as early as 1970. An offiCial aCCount reCorded in 1973 with John on voCals appears in the John Lennon Anthology box set. This traCk was added when the 1979 re-issue came out and was not inCluded on the 1971 original pressings. BREAK “Catcall” – The Chris Barber Band: A jazz instrumental written by MCCartney way baCk in the early days of the group. Originally titled “Catswalk.” and renamed when given to the Chris Barber Band in 1967. On July 20, 1967 Paul attended the session when the Chris Barber Band recorded it, but it is not clear what instrument, if any, Paul plays on the reCording. The single was released in the U.K. on the Marmalade label on October 20, 1967. A Beatles reCording of it made at the legendary Cavern Club in 1962 has CirCulated among colleCtors and appeared on a few bootlegs.     1 PLAYLIST AUG. 7th 2016 Part 1 of our Revolver @ 50 Special~ We will dedicate to early versions of songs…plus the single that preceded the release of REVOLVER…Lets start with the first song recorded for the album it was called Mark 1 in April of 1966…good morning hipsters 2 9AM The Beatles - Tomorrow Never Knows – Revolver TK1 (Lennon-McCartney) Lead vocal: John The first song recorded for what would become the “Revolver” album. John’s composition was unlike anything The Beatles or anyone else had ever recorded. Lennon’s vocal is buried under a wall of sound -- an assemblage of repeating tape loops and sound effects – placed on top of a dense one chord song with basic melody driven by Ringo's thunderous drum pattern. The lyrics were largely taken from “The Psychedelic Experience,” a 1964 book written by Harvard psychologists Timothy Leary and Richard Alpert, which contained an adaptation of the ancient “Tibetan Book of the Dead.” Each Beatle worked at home on creating strange sounds to add to the mix. Then they were added at different speeds sometime backwards. Paul got “arranging” credit. He had discovered that by removing the erase head on his Grundig reel-to-reel tape machine, he could saturate a recording with sound.
