The Beatles Anthology just finished watching this entire series I will keep this short as it is as close to speechless I think I will ever become: It's been said to me The Beatles Anthology times of films that are well over two hours long. It's always something to the effect that the time just flies by and before you know it. I've never known that to be quite as true as it was for The Beatles Anthology. Each episode is well over an hour long, and there are eight of them, but it never seemed like there was a wasted moment. It progressed as eloquently as The Beatles Anthology band did itself, with ever scene and interview being a logical step forward. I am a huge Beatles fan, but really didn't expect to like this. I'm not The Beatles Anthology why I thought I wouldn't, but something just didn't seem The Beatles Anthology about it. I'm glad I didn't go with that feeling. Self 6 episodes, The Beatles Anthology (TV Mini-Series –) - IMDb The Beatles Anthology is a documentary television series on the career of the Beatles. The series was re-released on DVD inwith an minute special-features disc. An official documentary on the Beatles career had been in the pipeline as early as Long-time friend and Apple Corps manager Neil Aspinall had compiled footage of concert, interview, and television appearances from various sources around the The Beatles Anthology. From this archival footage, he assembled a minute feature film The Beatles Anthology was tentatively titled The Long and Winding Road and was completed in At this point, none of the former members had any involvement with the project, and plans for its release lay dormant untilwhen John Lennon made a statement as part of a legal deposition against the producers of the musical Beatlemania. His greatest dream was to recreate the musical magic of the early years with Paul, George and Ringo … he felt that they had traveled different paths for long enough. He felt they had grown up and were mature enough to try writing and recording new songs. In The Beatles Anthology, the project was resurrected as a six-part documentary series. This time, the surviving members [4] were directly involved, giving interviews on film with Jools Holland. Lennon's interviews were sourced from archived footage. Also interviewed were insiders Neil Aspinall, the band's press agent Derek Taylorand their long-time producer George Martin. A rough cut was completed in which was much more interview-based and focused on events, as opposed to the The Beatles Anthology cut, which included more concert and television performances. The documentary was broadcast on American television in three feature-length episodes comprising The Beatles Anthology abridged parts two per episode on Sunday 19 November, Wednesday 22 November, and Thursday 23 November The documentary was met with generally positive reviews. Richard Buskin, author of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Beatlescommented that the retelling of the band's story was "extremely subjective" with the small lineup of only the four Beatles plus Martin, Aspinall and Taylor to voice their recollections. Compromises had to be reached so that sensibilities were not offended, in particular with regard to events resulting in the breakup. Thus, Buskin stated, the end result was not a definitive story of the Beatles' history, but rather a diplomatic celebration. The plans for a concert were abandoned and replaced with the intention that the surviving three members would play some incidental music in between segments and The Beatles Anthology. It was then put forward [ by whom? Both McCartney and Harrison wrote some material which became the song " All For Love ", but it was then suggested [ by whom? Ono gave McCartney cassette tapes in after they appeared together on stage at Lennon's induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The last two were left unfinished by the group, [11] but "Free as a Bird" and "Real Love" were completed with producer Jeff Lynne in —95 and premiered during the Anthology' s initial broadcast. All songs are written by Lennon—McCartney and performed by the Beatlesunless otherwise noted. That was just like paradise because we'd never been anywhere with palm trees. Canadian Beatles Albums Identification Guide Updated: 22 De 16 Type 1 Rainbow Label Capitol Capitol Records of Canada contracted Beatlemania long before their larger and better-known counterpart to the south. Canadian Capitol's superior decision-making brought Beatles records to Canada in early 1963. After experimenting with the release of a few singles, Capitol was eager to release the Beatles' second British album in Canada. Sources differ as to the release date of the LP, but surely by December 2, 1963, Canada's version of With the Beatles became the first North American Beatles album. Capitol-USA and Capitol-Canada were negotiating the consolidation of their releases, but the US release of The Beatles' Second Album had a title and contained songs that were inappropriate for Canadian release. After a third unique Canadian album, album and single releases were unified. From Something New on, releases in the two countries were nearly identical, although Capitol-Canada continued to issue albums in mono only. At the time when Beatlemania With the Beatles came out, most Canadian pop albums were released in the "6000 Series." The label style in 1963 was a rainbow label, similar to the label used in the United States but with print around the rim of the label that read, "Mfd. in Canada by Capitol Records of Canada, Ltd. Registered User. Copyrighted." Those albums which were originally issued on this label style are: Title Catalog Number Beatlemania With the Beatles T-6051 (mono) Twist and Shout T-6054 (mono) Long Tall Sally T-6063 (mono) Something New T-2108 (mono) Beatles' Story TBO-2222 (mono) Beatles '65 T-2228 (mono) Beatles '65 ST-2228 (stereo) Beatles VI (mono) T-2358 Beatles VI (stereo) ST-2358 NOTE: In 1965, shortly before the release of Beatles VI, Capitol-Canada began to release albums in both mono and stereo.

Southern Illinois University Carbondale OpenSIUC Research Papers Graduate School Spring 4-5-2012 The ffecE ts of Digital Music Distribution Rama A. Dechsakda [email protected] Follow this and additional works at: http://opensiuc.lib.siu.edu/gs_rp The er search paper was a study of how digital music distribution has affected the music industry by researching different views and aspects. I believe this topic was vital to research because it give us insight on were the music industry is headed in the future. Two main research questions proposed were; “How is digital music distribution affecting the music industry?” and “In what way does the piracy industry affect the digital music industry?” The methodology used for this research was performing case studies, researching prospective and retrospective data, and analyzing sales figures and graphs. Case studies were performed on one independent artist and two major artists whom changed the digital music industry in different ways. Another pair of case studies were performed on an independent label and a major label on how changes of the digital music industry effected their business model and how piracy effected those new business models as well. I analyzed sales figures and graphs of digital music sales and physical sales to show the differences in the formats. I researched prospective data on how consumers adjusted to the digital music advancements and how piracy industry has affected them. Last I concluded all the data found during this research to show that digital music distribution is growing and could possibly be the dominant format for obtaining music, and the battle with piracy will be an ongoing process that will be hard to end anytime soon.

1 PLAYLIST AUG. 7th 2016 Part 1 of our Revolver @ 50 Special~ We will dedicate to early versions of songs…plus the single that preceded the release of REVOLVER…Lets start with the first song recorded for the album it was called Mark 1 in April of 1966…good morning hipsters 2 9AM The Beatles - Tomorrow Never Knows – Revolver TK1 (Lennon-McCartney) Lead vocal: John The first song recorded for what would become the “Revolver” album. John’s composition was unlike anything The Beatles or anyone else had ever recorded. Lennon’s vocal is buried under a wall of sound -- an assemblage of repeating tape loops and sound effects – placed on top of a dense one chord song with basic melody driven by Ringo's thunderous drum pattern. The lyrics were largely taken from “The Psychedelic Experience,” a 1964 book written by Harvard psychologists Timothy Leary and Richard Alpert, which contained an adaptation of the ancient “Tibetan Book of the Dead.” Each Beatle worked at home on creating strange sounds to add to the mix. Then they were added at different speeds sometime backwards. Paul got “arranging” credit. He had discovered that by removing the erase head on his Grundig reel-to-reel tape machine, he could saturate a recording with sound. A bit of….The Beatles - For No One - Revolver (Lennon-McCartney) Lead vocal: Paul 3 The Beatles - Here, There And Everywhere / TK’s 7 & 13 - Revolver (Lennon-McCartney) Lead vocal: Paul Written by Paul while sitting by the pool of John’s estate, this classic ballad was inspired by The Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows.” Completed in 14 takes spread over three sessions on June 14, 16 and 17, 1966.

Innovators: Songwriters David Galenson NBER Working Paper No. 15511 November 2009 JEL No. N00 ABSTRACT Irving Berlin and Cole Porter were two of the great experimental songwriters of the Golden Era. They aimed to create songs that were clear and universal. Their ability to do this improved throughout much of their careers, as their skill in using language to create simple and poignant images improved with experience, and their greatest achievements came in their 40s and 50s. During the 1960s, Bob Dylan and the team of John Lennon and Paul McCartney created a conceptual revolution in popular music. Their goal was to express their own ideas and emotions in novel ways. Their creativity declined with age, as increasing experience produced habits of thought that destroyed their ability to formulate radical new departures from existing practices, so their most innovative contributions appeared early in their careers.

  • The Beatles and the Crisis of Self-Identity
Sosland Journal 77 THE BEATLES AND THE CRISIS OF SELF-IDENTITY Jared Gutzmer “Ringo- a lovely performer. George- a mystical unre- alized talent. But John and Paul, Saints John and Paul, were, and made, and aureoled and beatifi ed and eternalized the concept that shall always be known, remembered and deeply loved as The Beatles” -Leonard Bernstein The Beatles are one of the most popular bands of all time. This is an undisputed fact no matter the location. They were so popular that in America, they had to stop touring due to the screaming fans which caused the band not to be able to hear themselves. Never before was there a group that was so incredibly popular in history. This popularity and other fac- tors led the members of the Beatles to change as individuals and as a group as they matured musically and mentally. Their identity shifted from a group identity to a self-identity. From the Beatles fi rst album, Please Please Me, to their last, Let It Be, the shift in their identity can be seen through their music and the appearances that led to individualism and eventually their downfall. 78 Sosland Journal The Music “It would not seem quite so likely that the accompany- ing fever known as Beatlemania will also be success- fully exported. On this side of the Atlantic it is dazed stuff.” -Jack Gould, New York Times television critic The Beatles music and lyrics changed drastically from their fi rst to last album due to adapting to a changing soci- ety, musical maturity, and their increased popularity.

As a result of massive digitization efforts and the world wide web, there is an exploding amount of available digital data describing and representing music at various semantic levels and in diverse formats. For example, in the case of the Beatles songs, there are numerous recordings including an increasing number of cover songs and arrangements as well as MIDI data and other symbolic music representations. The general goal of music synchronization is to align the multiple information sources related to a given piece of music. This becomes a difficult problem when the various representations reveal significant differences in structure and polyphony, while exhibiting various types of artifacts. In this paper, we address the issue of how music synchronization techniques are useful for automatically revealing critical passages with significant difference between the two versions to be aligned. Using the corpus of the Beatles songs as test bed, we analyze the kind of differences occurring in audio and MIDI versions available for the songs. Keywords.
