We are inspired by the model of Bezalel, a craftsman artistically gifted by God, and the first individual in the Bible said to be “filled with the Spirit of God.” The conference provides opportunity for participants to think about the ways the arts reflect the God who created and pronounced his work “good.” The inaugural Faith and the Arts Conference is scheduled for September 22-23, 2017. The theme is Creativity, Culture, and Calling. God invites us to exercise our divinely granted creativity to explore the human condition and express the depths of the individual soul. In the creation mandate (Genesis 1), God commands us to be responsible for the earth and to foster a culture beneficial to all creatures; Christian faith reaches to all elements of human life, so the divine calling to reflect the image of God—the Divine Creator—should be nurtured especially in those worKing in the arts. No stranger to comicbook-based material, Adler has produced such graphic-based fare as "Constantine," "Superman Returns" and the upcoming Brandon Routh starrer "Dead of Night," which is based on the popular Italian title "Dylan Dog." This material is definitely in my strike zone in more ways than one," Adler said, noting his prior role as a producer of such horror projects as the "Tales From the Crypt" series. "But what really appealed to me wasn't so much the genre trappings but rather the characters that really drive this story." Set during WWII, story revolves around an infectious mist unleashed on a military base that transforms its victims into preternatural creatures of the night. But when the survivors try to kill them, they adapt and change into something even more horrific and unstoppable. Studio 407's Alex Leung will also serve as a producer on "Night and Fog." Adler and McCarthy are also teaming to produce an adaptation of "Havana Nocturne" along with Eric Eisner. They also recently optioned Ken Bruen's crime thriller "Tower." "Night and Fog" is available in comic shops in the single-issue format and digitally on iPhone through Comixology.

  • To DVD February 28Th
“HE is coming” . To DVD February 28th THE VISITATION THE INTENSE SUPERNATURAL THRILLER FROM BEST-SELLING AUTHOR FRANK PERETTI WHEN A STRANGER ARRIVES . THE MYSTERY BEGINS! CENTURY CITY, Calif. – From the best-selling spiritual thriller novel by renowned author Frank Peretti (This Present Darkness, Hangman’s Curse) and the creative minds of producers Ralph Winter (Fantastic Four, X-Men), Joe Goodman and Bobby Neutz (Hangman’s Curse, Thr3e), comes the intense supernatural thriller The Visitation, released to DVD on February 28, 2006. This release marks the second collaboration between Fox Home Entertainment, Namesake Entertainment, and Total Living Network. The Visitation exemplifies the latest trend in filmmaking where the message of the movie, much like The Exorcism of Emily Rose and The Chronicles of Narnia, is told in a powerful story with spiritual undertones. Hollywood has discovered that this niche is proving to be both popular and profitable. Peretti’s supernatural thriller tells the story of a mysterious stranger (Edward Furlong) and his three associates, who arrive in a small town and perform miracles on those who would follow. Who is this charismatic drifter the townspeople have chosen to follow? Is he the true messiah, a false prophet or something far more sinister? While the town is blinded by the seduction of the supernatural, it’s up to an ex-minister (Martin Donovan) to confront his own inner demons and unlock the bizarre and shocking secrets of evil unleashed by the town’s choices before time runs out for the soul of Antioch. Featuring an all-star cast including Edward Furlong (American History X, Terminator 2: Judgment Day), Martin Donovan (Insomnia, Saved!), Kelly Lynch (The Jacket, Charlie’s Angels), and country music superstar Randy Travis (The Rainmaker, Texas Rangers), this intense supernatural thriller will release in selected theatrical markets on January 20, 2006.

  • Evolutionary Creation by Denis Lamoureux – a Brief Introduction
Evolutionary Creation by Denis Lamoureux – A Brief Introduction I recently finished reading Evolutionary Creation: A Christian Approach to Evolution by Denis Lamoureux. I was so impressed with the book that I sent an e-mail recommending it to several of the speakers from the International Apologetics Conferences. John Oakes replied, asking if I might be interested in preparing a more formal review for posting on his website. I have such a high regard for the book that I agreed to do so. Before getting to the review; however, I believe it is useful to share some background information that explains why I consider Lamoureux’s book to be so important. Having been an enthusiast of apologetics for many years, I developed a keen interest in the creation/evolution controversy. After hearing John Clayton in the mid 1980’s, I made a transition from Young Earth Creationism to Old Earth Creationism. I later became a proponent of Intelligent Design (ID). Although I readily accepted microevolution, I never accepted macroevolution or Common Descent. Everything changed after I read The Language of God by Francis Collins, director of the Human Genome Project (HGP). After encountering the evidence from the HGP, I concluded that common descent was inescapable. Several other books reinforced this conclusion, including , Coming To Peace With Science, Saving Darwin, Only A Theory, Relics Of Eden, and Random Designer (all of which were written by proponents of Theistic Evolution, aka Evolutionary Creationism). Denis Alexander, director of the Faraday Institute for Science and Religion and author of Evolution or Creation? Do We Have to Choose?, summarized the evidence for common descent in the following quote from his lecture at the 2007 ASA Annual Meeting in Edinburgh.

  • Tensions in Intelligent Design's Critique of Theistic Evolutionism
Tensions in Intelligent Design’s Critique of Theistic Evolutionism _________________________________________________________ Erkki Vesa Rope Kojonen Abstract “Intelligent Design” (ID) is a contemporary intellectual movement arguing that there is scientific evidence for the existence of some sort of creator. Its proponents see ID as a scientific research program and as a way of building a bridge between science and theology, while many critics see it merely as a repackaged form of religiously motivated creationism: both bad science and bad theology. In this article, I offer a close reading of the ID movement’s critique of theistic evolutionism (TE) and argue that this critique is ultimately in tension with the movement’s broader thought. Introduction The Intelligent Design movement argues that the order of nature provides scientific evidence of the existence of an “intelligent designer”, typically believed to be the God of the Bible. Intelligent Design is a counter-reaction to the atheistic evolutionism of thinkers like Richard Dawkins (1991), who argue that evolutionary theory shows the unnecessity of a Creator. However, from its beginnings ID has also critiqued theistic evolutionism, which accepts both the doctrine of creation and the mainstream scientific theory of Darwinian evolution. This article has a twofold purpose. First, I aim to increase understanding of Intelligent Design and its central differences from theistic evolutionism. Second, I will argue that ID’s critique of theistic evolutionism is ultimately in tension with the movement’s broader thought. Thus, this critique should be abandoned or substantially modified even by proponents of ID. Theistic evolutionism and ID have some similarity, because both oppose atheistic evolutionism.

  • Reading the Uncanny Xmen: Gender, Race, and The
READING THE UNCANNY XMEN: GENDER, RACE, AND THE MUTANT METAPHOR IN A POPULAR NARRATIVE By Joseph James Darowski A DISSERTATION Submitted to Michigan State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY American Studies 2011 ABSTRACT READING THE UNCANNY XMEN: GENDER RACE AND THE MUTANT METAPHOR IN A POPULAR NARRATIVE By Joseph James Darowski The first superhero comic book was published in 1938 and since that time the genre has become a staple of American popular culture. While superhero stories have been adapted into every popular storytelling medium, the genre is most closely associated with the comic book industry. This dissertation examines the first 500 issues of The Uncanny XMen, one of the most popular series to be published in America. In particular, the portrayals of race and gender will be analyzed by performing a close reading of the stories published as well as a numerical analysis of the ethnicity, nationality, and gender of the heroes, villains, and guest stars who appear in the series. The X‐Men comic book franchise has a reputation among fans, creators, and scholars as one of the most diverse and progressive superhero comic book titles. The core conceit of the series, that there are people called mutants who are born with powers and abilities that separate them from normal humans, has allowed the themes of societal prejudice and hatred to be explored in a metaphorical fashion, though looking closely at the race and gender of the characters in the series reveals a different reality than the common perception of the series.
