We are inspired by the model of Bezalel, a craftsman artistically gifted by God, and the first individual in the Bible said to be “filled with the Spirit of God.” The conference provides opportunity for participants to think about the ways the arts reflect the God who created and pronounced his work “good.” The inaugural Faith and the Arts Conference is scheduled for September 22-23, 2017. The theme is Creativity, Culture, and Calling. God invites us to exercise our divinely granted creativity to explore the human condition and express the depths of the individual soul. In the creation mandate (Genesis 1), God commands us to be responsible for the earth and to foster a culture beneficial to all creatures; Christian faith reaches to all elements of human life, so the divine calling to reflect the image of God—the Divine Creator—should be nurtured especially in those worKing in the arts. Posted: Mon., Dec. 28, 2009, 8:00pm PT Adler, McCarthy engulfed in WWII 'Fog' Producers option sci-fi horror comicbook 'Night and Fog' By TATIANA SIEGEL Producers Gil Adler and Shane McCarthy have optioned the sci-fi horror comicbook "Night and Fog" from publisher Studio 407. No stranger to comicbook-based material, Adler has produced such graphic-based fare as "Constantine," "Superman Returns" and the upcoming Brandon Routh starrer "Dead of Night," which is based on the popular Italian title "Dylan Dog." This material is definitely in my strike zone in more ways than one," Adler said, noting his prior role as a producer of such horror projects as the "Tales From the Crypt" series. "But what really appealed to me wasn't so much the genre trappings but rather the characters that really drive this story." Set during WWII, story revolves around an infectious mist unleashed on a military base that transforms its victims into preternatural creatures of the night. But when the survivors try to kill them, they adapt and change into something even more horrific and unstoppable. Studio 407's Alex Leung will also serve as a producer on "Night and Fog." Adler and McCarthy are also teaming to produce an adaptation of "Havana Nocturne" along with Eric Eisner. They also recently optioned Ken Bruen's crime thriller "Tower." "Night and Fog" is available in comic shops in the single-issue format and digitally on iPhone through Comixology.

  • To DVD February 28Th
“HE is coming” . To DVD February 28th THE VISITATION THE INTENSE SUPERNATURAL THRILLER FROM BEST-SELLING AUTHOR FRANK PERETTI WHEN A STRANGER ARRIVES . THE MYSTERY BEGINS! CENTURY CITY, Calif. – From the best-selling spiritual thriller novel by renowned author Frank Peretti (This Present Darkness, Hangman’s Curse) and the creative minds of producers Ralph Winter (Fantastic Four, X-Men), Joe Goodman and Bobby Neutz (Hangman’s Curse, Thr3e), comes the intense supernatural thriller The Visitation, released to DVD on February 28, 2006. This release marks the second collaboration between Fox Home Entertainment, Namesake Entertainment, and Total Living Network. The Visitation exemplifies the latest trend in filmmaking where the message of the movie, much like The Exorcism of Emily Rose and The Chronicles of Narnia, is told in a powerful story with spiritual undertones. Hollywood has discovered that this niche is proving to be both popular and profitable. Peretti’s supernatural thriller tells the story of a mysterious stranger (Edward Furlong) and his three associates, who arrive in a small town and perform miracles on those who would follow. Who is this charismatic drifter the townspeople have chosen to follow? Is he the true messiah, a false prophet or something far more sinister? While the town is blinded by the seduction of the supernatural, it’s up to an ex-minister (Martin Donovan) to confront his own inner demons and unlock the bizarre and shocking secrets of evil unleashed by the town’s choices before time runs out for the soul of Antioch. Featuring an all-star cast including Edward Furlong (American History X, Terminator 2: Judgment Day), Martin Donovan (Insomnia, Saved!), Kelly Lynch (The Jacket, Charlie’s Angels), and country music superstar Randy Travis (The Rainmaker, Texas Rangers), this intense supernatural thriller will release in selected theatrical markets on January 20, 2006.

READING THE UNCANNY XMEN: GENDER, RACE, AND THE MUTANT METAPHOR IN A POPULAR NARRATIVE By Joseph James Darowski A DISSERTATION Submitted to Michigan State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY American Studies 2011 ABSTRACT READING THE UNCANNY XMEN: GENDER RACE AND THE MUTANT METAPHOR IN A POPULAR NARRATIVE By Joseph James Darowski The first superhero comic book was published in 1938 and since that time the genre has become a staple of American popular culture. While superhero stories have been adapted into every popular storytelling medium, the genre is most closely associated with the comic book industry. This dissertation examines the first 500 issues of The Uncanny XMen, one of the most popular series to be published in America. In particular, the portrayals of race and gender will be analyzed by performing a close reading of the stories published as well as a numerical analysis of the ethnicity, nationality, and gender of the heroes, villains, and guest stars who appear in the series. The X‐Men comic book franchise has a reputation among fans, creators, and scholars as one of the most diverse and progressive superhero comic book titles. The core conceit of the series, that there are people called mutants who are born with powers and abilities that separate them from normal humans, has allowed the themes of societal prejudice and hatred to be explored in a metaphorical fashion, though looking closely at the race and gender of the characters in the series reveals a different reality than the common perception of the series.
