This increased international exposure, makes marketing products and services easier and more efficient than before. MYBC can be accessed through any internet connected device including desktop/laptop computers, smartphones and tablets. Before using MYBC, take some time to explore the website to find out about the basic features of nav- igation. Learning how to navigate the site will make it easier to understand particular areas of MYBC in further detail. © 2017 BPS Technology Ltd, MYBC User Guide v11.1 (201706) 6 Accessing MYBC MYBC can be accessed 2 ways: 1. Type mybc.bartercard.com in the internet browser’s address field . 2. Going to Bartercard.com or any of the country specific sites (for example bartercard.com.au) and clicking on the Member Login button. See Registration and login for information on how to login. Access for non-members Non-Bartercard members can access parts of MYBC to gain an insight into the benefits of Bartercard and how bartering can help their business. Non-members can access: l Access for non-members. l Access for non-members - This does not include pricing information nor does it include the con- tact information for the seller. l Access for non-members - The information displayed include the description of the listing, without any contact information. l About us. Bookmarking MYBC Save MYBC as a bookmark or favourite, or add it to the home screen of your mobile device to make it easier to access MYBC. To find out how to save a bookmark/favourite, press click one of the links below for your preferred inter- net browser. MYBC can also be saved to the home screen of your iOS or Android mobile device. On Android, tap the menu button of the browser and choose Add to homescreen. On iOS, tap the share button on Safari (the rectangle with the arrow pointing upward) and choose Add to home screen, © 2017 BPS Technology Ltd, MYBC User Guide v11.1 (201706) 7 System requirements Below are the minimum system requirements to gain the most benefit from the features found in MYBC. You may experience anomalies in performance when other operating systems and browsers are used. Operating System Browser Windows 7 Internet Explorer 9, 11 Chrome Firefox Windows 8 Internet Explorer 10 Windows 8.1 Internet Explorer 11 Chrome Firefox iPad Generation 2 and 3 running latest version of Safari. Note: If viewing MYBC on an Apple device, the website requires cookies and you will not be able to login if your phone is set to Private Browsing mode. We advise to either turn off Private mode when using mybc, to use the mybc mobile app, or to browse using another browser. Cookies MYBC uses cookies, which are small files stored on your computer. These are designed to hold a mod- est amount of data that is specific to you and the way you use the website. This information can be accessed either by us or the computer, allowing us to deliver a page that is more tailored to you. An example of a cookie used in MYBC can be found with the Listing View. A small cookie exists that stores information about your preferred view type such as the Gallery View or the Grid View. This is done so that when you come back to MYBC, the computer will already know what your viewing pref- erence is. Cookies must be enabled to successfully use MYBC. Terms and conditions Terms and conditions govern the use of MYBC, and it is important to understand what these are. Top Menu – The Top Menu provides access to areas such as Buy, Sell, Directory, About Us, and the Login/Register/Logout functions. 2. Main Menu – this is the main menu or starting point for a number of different features in MYBC. 3. Sub Menu – this is a menu which is displayed when you click on some entries in the main menu, and providing access to additional features relating to the selected main menu item. 4. Sidebar – this is a pop out menu located to the right of the main display area and containing related information or navigation options. 5. Radio Button – this is an icon representing one of a set of options, only one of which can be selected at any time. 6. Input Field – this is a field where information can be entered. 7. Checkbox/Tickbox – this is a small box into which a tick or other mark is entered as the response to a question. 8. Drop Down list – this allows a value from the list to be selected. 9. Button – press a button to trigger an event such as submitting information or moving to the next page. Note: In this guide we have used a red rectangle to highlight areas of importance. © 2017 BPS Technology Ltd, MYBC User Guide v11.1 (201706) 10 Sidebar The Sidebar contains information specific to you, such as your Username, the profile completion per- centage, and a list of the last searched items in the directory, depending on the page that you are cur- rently on. The sidebar can be opened or closed by clicking on the green tab on the right hand side of the screen. The Profile Percentage indicates how complete your MYBC Profile is and how familiar you are with the interface. A complete profile will help you maximise the benefits of MYBC. Things that increase your profile percentage include: l Completing your Business Profile l Adding a listing for sale l Purchasing an item online l Searching the Directory l Adding a directory favourite The sidebar also allows you to change the display language of MYBC.

    Business-to-business barter exchange: A Viable Marketplace Melina Young© “This revolutionary cashless system is the currency of excess business capacity.” (“Welcome to IRTA”) Introduction Business-to-business barter exchanges share many of the characteristics of social currencies (Vasconcelos Friere 2009) but most are for-profit businesses operating in the private sector and have distinct legal status at least in some jurisdictions. Much of the development in business-to-business barter exchange industry has occurred in the United States and in other countries such as Australia in the last 30 years where barter exchange is recognized in legislation. Barter credit exists as a type of sub-national instrument and barter exchange as a type of institution within the national polity. This paper is a work in progress*. It is a collection of information and thoughts gathered around the questions: What makes business-to-business barter exchange viable? How does it function? What is its public accountability? What is its relationship to the national economy? And how does it affect price stability? I was struck by Stodder's proposition that the WIR, the “medium of payment” of the WIRBank, “coexists with SFr, as a secondary or “residual” currency” (Stodder 2009:26). To extrapolate a general statement, the barter credit coexists as a secondary or residual currency with the national or primary currency, standing in where the primary currency is unavailable. If this is the case, Stodder explains, barter exchange activity would have an anti-deflationary effect. Some of the explorations in this paper dialogue with this proposition.
