Ethics for Digital Journalists
ETHICS FOR DIGITAL JOURNALISTS The rapid growth of online media has led to new complications in journalism ethics and practice. While traditional ethical principles may not fundamentally change when information is disseminated online, applying them across platforms has become more challenging as new kinds of interactions develop between jour- nalists and audiences. In Ethics for Digital Journalists , Lawrie Zion and David Craig draw together the international expertise and experience of journalists and scholars who have all been part of the process of shaping best practices in digital journalism. He wrote and researched the 2007 documentary The Sounds of Aus , which tells the story of the Australian accent. David Craig is a Professor of Journalism and Associate Dean at the University of Oklahoma in the United States. A former newspaper copy editor, he is the author of Excellence in Online Journalism: Exploring Current Practices in an Evolving Environ- ment and The Ethics of the Story: Using Narrative Techniques Responsibly in Journalism . -

DAVID EUSTACE SELECTED WORKS 4-28 FEBRUARY 2015 Photo: Eduardo Fiel FOREWORD Selected Works may seem a prosaic title for an exhibition which we hope will stop you in your tracks. The photographs are a selection from the oeuvre of an artist who has worked with both passion and professional dedication for twenty-five years but who has not had the conventional career easily summed up with a mid-term retrospective. His personal history is the counterpoint to his career; his discovery of the camera was a personal salvation which provided a raison d’être and opened a floodgate from which has flowed a tumult of images, each a tribute to the photographer’s imagination and technical skill. For Eustace each day is full of possibility, his life a series of happy resolutions and coincidences and he carries this openness into the studio and behind the lens so that he can see the essential character of a sitter and respond intuitively. Throughout his life he has shown the vision to imagine projects on a grand scale, some of which have been shot over a period of years. This exhibition is another chapter in his story; it is our first photography exhibition and the first showing for the photographer in a gallery but most importantly the images work in exactly the same way as modern painting: we respond emotionally as individuals. The exhibition is also a fitting launch for a major monograph on Eustace: I Write to Tell You of a Baby Boy Born Only Yesterday… The Scottish Gallery would like to thank Edinburgh Napier University for their contribution towards this special publication. -

INTRODUCTION Background to the Report 1.1 This Authority Monitoring Report (AMR) contains information about the extent to which the Council’s planning policy objectives are being achieved. The report covers the period from 1 April 2015 to 31 March 2016. Introduction 1.2 The Localism Act removed the requirement for local planning authorities to produce an annual monitoring report for Government, but it did retain an overall duty to monitor planning policies. Authorities can now choose which targets and indicators to include in their monitoring reports as long as they are in line with the relevant UK and EU legislation. Their primary purpose is to share the performance and achievements of the Council’s planning service with the local community. The monitoring report also needs to demonstrate how councils are meeting the requirement to cooperate with other authorities on strategic issues. The format of this AMR accordingly was revised and shortened last year to reflect the greater flexibility allowed for these reports and to present a more concise summary of key indicators. -

ART & DESIGN A Fiery Splash in the Rockaways and Twists on Film at the Whitney By ROBIN POGREBIN MAY 26, 2016 Japan Society Show When the Turner Prize-winning artist Simon Starling was preparing the piece he would exhibit at the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art five years ago, he learned about masked Japanese Noh theater, which inspired W. B. Yeats’s 1916 play, “At the Hawk’s Well.” Now Mr. Starling is building on that project with “At Twilight,” his first institutional show in New York and a rare solo exhibition at Japan Society that features a non-Japanese artist. It is also the first exhibition by Yukie Kamiya, Japan Society’s new gallery director, who used to be chief curator at the Hiroshima museum. The show is organized with the Common Guild of Glasgow, which will present Mr. Starling’s version of the Yeats play in July. Action zones The framework developed in this Green Infrastructure Strategy for organising and articulating the proposed Green Infrastructure Network and component projects, and for assessing functional GI provision and need. Action zones are based on distribution and assessment of common character and green infrastructure assets. AOD Above Ordnance Datum (sea level). Ancient woodland Woods that are believed to have been continuous woodland cover since at least 1600 AD. ANGSt Accessible Natural Greenspace Standards – a four level spatial typology advocated by Natural England to evaluate provision of accessible (semi) natural greenspace, such as nature reserves, parks and gardens, allotments and amenity greenspace. The intention was for the model to be applied primarily to urban areas and settlements originally although the standard has since become a widely accepted provision standard. The standard applies to spatial elements and not linear features such as paths and rights of way. Over the years, painting has evolved; new styles have been developed and digital media have been explored. Each period of change goes through a period of rejection before it is accepted. In the 1960s, digital media was introduced to the art form. Like all the painting mediums, it was rejected. It has been over 50 years since it was introduced and yet, it has not been fully accepted as an art form (King, 2002; Miller, 2007; Noll, 1994). This exploratory study seeks to understand the artist’s perception on the use of digital media as an art tool and its benefit to the artists and art education. Grounded theory was used as a methodological guide for the study. -
