She goes to Zamojszczyzna every summer to write, catch up on some reading, and above all, to admire the natural beauty of Roztocze. Kasia Bulicz-Kasprzak I WILL GO SEE MY ONE AND ONLY This is a story about two young men who at the start of their adult life make a decision that will dramatically change everything. They have different motives and circumstances, different personalities, but take the same decision– professional career in the military. Can you make the right choice for a lifetime when your personality is still being shaped? How will a military drill influence irreverent and light-hearted Karol? Will Paweł, who comes from a traditional, large peasant family, find his place in barracks in a border town? Can we talk about following one’s own path when every day one must obey orders of others? The life stories of the protagonists intertwine repeatedly, connected by the military service and the desire of promotion, but above all by the unique friendship of brothers in arms, which began at the very start of their military career and despite all the turmoil, lasts for good and bad. The author of studies and articles about the counterculture groups, Satanism, „second life” in youth detention centers and social determinants of professional career. She is a mother of three daughters and a son. For more than twenty years, she has lead, together with her husband, a family-owned company. In 2013, she debuted with a novel Stepmother which was warmly received by readers. Jadwiga Czajkowska TRUSTING TOO MUCH All good things come to an end… Blanka worked hard for her success that other can only dream of. But the position of a bank director fells like a trap, as she must require from her employees to implement unrealistic sale plans, which is possible only when they lie to the customers. She also fails in her private life – she attracts only those men who are financial scroungers. With each day Blanka is more and more convinced that other women are the lucky ones – they found men with financial stability, and do not have to work and fight to survive in the jungle of life. One day, however, Marcel appears – and Blanka’s dreams come true. Finally, she can quit her job and live the life of a rich housewife. But is it worth to blindly trust a man and rely on him like on some pillar that should never break? It’s an absorbing story about a woman who will have to face her life after waking up from the lethargy called happiness. THE EXOTIC RHYTHMS OF DON ELLIS A DISSERTATION SUBMITTED TO THE PEABODY INSTITUTE OF THE JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF MUSICAL ARTS BY SEAN P. FENLON MAY 25, 2002 © Copyright 2002 Sean P. Fenlon All Rights Reserved ABSTRACT Fenlon, Sean P. The Exotic Rhythms of Don Ellis. Diss. The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, 2002. This dissertation examines the rhythmic innovations of jazz musician and composer Don Ellis (1934-1978), both in Ellis’s theory and in his musical practice. It begins with a brief biographical overview of Ellis and his musical development. It then explores the historical development of jazz rhythms and meters, with special attention to Dave Brubeck and Stan Kenton, Ellis’s predecessors in the use of “exotic” rhythms. Three documents that Ellis wrote about his rhythmic theories are analyzed: “An Introduction to Indian Music for the Jazz Musician” (1965), The New Rhythm Book (1972), and Rhythm (c. 1973). Based on these sources a general framework is proposed that encompasses Ellis’s important concepts and innovations in rhythms. This framework is applied in a narrative analysis of “Strawberry Soup” (1971), one of Don Ellis’s most rhythmically-complex and also most-popular compositions. iii ACKNOWLEDGMENTS I wish to extend my heartfelt thanks to my dissertation advisor, Dr. John Spitzer, and other members of the Peabody staff that have endured my extended effort in completing this dissertation. Also, a special thanks goes out to Dr. H. Gene Griswold for his support during the early years of my music studies.

  • Tofifest News-Niepokorna Janda-The Rebellious Krystyna Janda EN Done
The rebellious Krystyna Janda This year’s Golden Angel of Tofifest for Artistic Insolence shall be awarded to Krystyna Janda, an outstanding European actress and director. This special award is awarded to the most important figures of the Polish and European cinema, at the International Film Festival Tofifest in Torun. The Golden Angel has already been awarded to Janusz Gajos, Bogusław Linda and Jerzy Stuhr. Krystyna Janda shall receive the Golden Angel during the 10 th edition of the IFF Tofifest, which will take place on 25 th October. Then, she will present her excellent monodrama "Shirley Valentine" , especially for the festival audience. The Golden Angel for Artistic Insolence was an award created four years ago and – according to the vision of Kafka Jaworska, director of the IFF Tofifest – it presented to those filmmakers, who have spent their entire lives going against the flow and surprised everybody with their courageous decisions. The same is the nature of Krystyna Janda, an outstanding figure of international cinematography, who won the Palme d’Or in Cannes and the Silver Shell at the IFF in San Sebastian . She is a rebellious and brave film and theatre actress, as well as a director, manager and founder of the Polonia and OchTeatr theatres in Warsaw. She has also been actively engaging in charity actions. “Janda is perhaps the only Polish actress that has achieved the status of a star and won a circle of admirers” , as it was aptly pointed out in the culture.pl portal. Her great contribution to culture has also been recognised by the authorities of the EU and in 2006 she was awarded the Medaille Charlemagne for her outstanding artistic work, dedication to the European Bridge between East and West and the struggle for the equality of women.
