INTRO
In the following pages you’ll see all 36 army lists due to play at Tempest this year. You’ll also see some added commentary from the Great and the Good (Bad) of Scottish Warhammer. Treat it firmly with the tongue in cheek, and all in the name of banter……
John – One of our DWARF overlords, Coach at Scotland’s successful AoS 6 Nations 2017 campaign, and TO for the 2018 one! He loves Trains, and Bretonnians (don’t mention the War…), and renting Rich’s armies. Just don’t let him pick any music. Ever.
Calum – Scotland’s resident expert in Spoonery. What Calum doesn’t know about the lower reaches of tournament tables isn’t worth knowing. Partial to Tzeentch/Death at the moment.
Mike – Mike’s a grumpy Dwarf player (stunties, not the Fifers) who still yearns for the ageless halls of Karaz-a-Karak. He also does nae bad with his Khorne at AoS (and soon the Stormcrutch!!) Expect puns galore from him in the coming pages………..if anyone can Mike Calla-ghan!
Dave – Chief Accountant for Tempest. He has cast his beady eye over all the lists, and adds an English meta slant to the reviews at the end. Formerly of this parish, but now embedded down South. He owns, and paints, LOTs of armies.

DAVE’S PREDICTIONS
CHAOS
Chaos lists are a funny bunch this time round. There is a heavy Tzeentch slant to them as you might expect but when you look at the lists there are no two quite alike, which speaks to the impressive versatility of the ridiculously powerful rules they got.
Best List: Greig Summers (Tzeentch Slaves to Darkness). This list is very ‘meta’ it drops large very difficult to kill units in your face/objectives and then looks to outscore you while your army is tied up trying to grind them off. Personally I hate that style of gameplay but no doubting it is effective.
Favourite Chaos: Leigh Martin (Mixed Tzeentch) – Ok a bit of bias here, it’s the Tzeentch list I’d more or less be running if I hadn’t sold them because it felt like playing with the training wheels on. It lacks the pink horrors which I think would really push it into being horrendous, I’d probably have swapped 3 units of chaff to put them in the list instead of the marauders.
Honourable Mention: Michael Hanns (Nurgle) because you know fine well his opponents will be getting an easy game as he’ll just be spending his time reading the new book and wishing he could use that instead.
Honourable Mention 2: John Bayliss (Archaeon & Changehost) – so what you running, oh you know Tzeentch Changehost, ah yeah that old thing, oh and Archaeon… What? You can fit both in 1 list?!!!
DESTRUCTION
Best List: Ross Joyce (Bonesplittas Gunline) – He’s gonna throw dice at you all day long and probably beat you. If you have the stomach for it maybe it’s fun, but it’s definitely effective.
Favourite Destruction: Graham Duffy – another one where favourite is basically because it’s more or less the same as a list I run. Do I think it’ll be competitive, not most of the time, it simply isn’t able to reliably deal with some of the top lists out there, but there will be that one game every so often when you just blow someone off the table when they thought it was an easy matchup and that’s what I love about them.
Honourable Mention: Kat Feteke (Beastclaw Raiders) 10 model army… 10.
DEATH
So the ever competitive area of Death (though looks like this will change in the near future with the legions of ‘Gash coming. The thing that most intrigued me was that none of them have a summoning pool of note. I guess with legion of death you just run out of points and FEC that isn’t really their bag (100pts here) but it seems a real shame that what should be a core mechanic simply isn’t worth considering.
Best List: Stu West (Legion of Death with Arkhan & Neferata)
Favourite Death: Niall Campbell (Non Alliance FEC with Arkhan)
Honourable Mention: Calum – I’m going to mention I think it’s madness not to run Arkhan just for the stories when you take off someone’s pride & joy massive unit/character.
Honourable Mention 2: James Marshall, come on there are only 4 of them, I can’t leave one out. Brave enough to run FEC but I just feel they lack the teeth in combat against a lot of what is about these days.
ORDER
So I read through order and for the first 5 lists my internal monologue said “Les Martin, Les Martin, Tom Mawdsley, Gary Percival and Jack Armstrong. Wow, tough field. Then I realised it was a bunch of netlisting Scottish 6 nations dudes!
The lists for order make for some grim reading; there is a lot of power in here making it hard to pick a winner. But the honourable mentions are where the real meat of this discussion sits. There is Adam “used to be cool and ran 4 Dragons” Turner with his fulminator spam, Graeme ‘3 warscrolls’ Davidson, the bring back GHB2016 Sylvaneth players, or probably my favourite 440pt typo of 2 Ironclad and finally the fact that Seraphon went 2 for 2 with Dread Saurians.
Best List: Jack Armstrong (Paul Whitehead) – Vanguard Wing
Favourite Order: Adam Turner – Fulminator spam
