FACULTY MEMBERS PARTICIPATE IN TEACHERS CONVENTION Approximately 1000 teachers are in Fairbanks today (March 18) for the two-day Alaska State Teachers Conference at Lathrop High School. The Conference began this morning with registration, followed by a general meeting with addresses by the Rev. John P. Leary, S.J., president of Gonzaga University and Dr. Elizabeth Drews, professor of psychology, Michigan State University.

A number of University faculty members are participating in the Conference. Those on the schedule in order of appearance are: Dr. Howard Cutler, moderator of a panel discussion Thursday afternoon; Sarkis Atamian, speaking on "Masks of Anaktuvuk Pass"; Dr. Michael Krauss and Dr. Charles Ray, serving on a panel discussing "Moral Values of Varying Cultures"; Philip Van Veldhuizen, Dr. Bruce Gordon and Charles Gruneisen will serve as consultants in their field of specialty; Helmut Van Flein speaking on "Indigenous Alaskan Materials and Their Utilization"; Dr. William S. Wilson speaking on "Physical Science in the Elementary School"; Dr. William Thompson speaking on "Composition at the Secondary Level"; Dr. David R. Klein speaking on "Wildlife Conservation"; Professor Van Veldhuizen speaking on "Modern Mathematics in the Elementary School"; Charles Northrip serving on a panel discussing "Educational Television"; Professor Gerald S. Hanna speaking on "Standarized Test Interpretation in the Alaskan Elementary School"; Dr. Edmund Skellings speaking on "Oral Presentation of Poetry"; Dr. Syun-ichi Akasofu speaking on "Space Physics and Aurora Research"; Dr. Walter Benesch speaking on "History-- The Garbage-Can Chronology?"; Professor Rachel Thomas speaking on "P. E. for the Elementary School"; Robert J. Epstein speaking on "Competitive Forensics"; Dr. Ray, serving on a panel discussing "Federal Aid to Education--Constitutional Issues Passed". In addition Professor Charles W. Davis will conduct the University's Opera Work­ shop in selections from "Madame Butterfly."

ORDER CAPS AND GOWNS

Orders for caps and gowns for Baccalaureate and Commencement exercises should be placed with the Bookstore as soon as possible. The 1965 exercises will be held May 23 and 24. NANOOK NEWS PAGE TWO MARCH 18, 1965

AWS HOLDS SPRING MEETING The spring meeting of the Associated Women Students will be held March 29 beginning at 7 p.m. in Duckering 318 with James Couch of the State Employment Office speaking on summer job opportunities for women college students. Other events on the schedule are elections for AWS officers and tapping of new members of the Spurs and Fidelis, the two women's honorary organizations on campus.

Faculty members are invited to attend.

PROFESSOR WISHES TO EXCHANGE HOMES FOR SUMMER Professor Donald Kinzer of Trenton State College, who will be a visiting faculty member at the University this summer, would like to exchange the use of his two bedroom house with someone who will be visiting near Trenton during the summer. The house is located eight miles from Princeton, 35 miles from Philadelphia and 60 miles from New York City. It will be available from about the middle of June to the end of August.

Anyone interested should contact Dr. Herman Slotnick, head of the Department of History and Political Science, Duckering 333.

SWIMMING CLASSES BEGIN MARCH 23

Two non-credit swimming classes for intermediate swimmers will be held at the University of Alaska swimming pool beginning March 23. A class for persons age 10-16 will meet at 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday. The second class, for persons 17 and older, will meet at 8 p.m. each Tuesday.

Interested persons may pre-register by calling 479-7295 to reserve a space in one of the sections. Both classes will be instructed by Earl Detrick, University Aquatic Supervisor.
