INDIAN LANGUAGE SCHOOL 2019 - 2020 Innovation in Education

Education is the base of every society. It is often said that what and how we learn in school determines who we become as individuals in life. Education determines our ability to communicate, solve problems, our interpersonal relationships and how we perceive the world around us. With the blending of technology in every walk of life there is a dire need for innovation in education to meet the challenges of the fast-changing and unpredictable globalized world.

There is still a significant gap between the potential of modern education and what students actually learn at school. Many educators still practice rote and old ineffective methods of teaching and learning. The adoption and exploration of innovative ideas in education is often slow and the acceptability to the change is very low.

Since the delivery by teacher and expectations of students is mismatched most of the students have short attention span during class, feel unengaged and resort to in disciplinary activities in classrooms. Integrating Art in learning gives diverse opportunities to learners and makes learning interesting ,engaging, faster and efficient.

Facilitating learning based on different learning styles is yet another way to engage learners. Technology allows teachers to individualize lesson plans to different students and their unique styles of learning. The focus of present educators should be to teach students to become innovative thinkers, learn leadership skills, think creatively and independently.

Educators need to prepare students for the future by empowering them with technology-based skills, allowing students to learn, early on, to embrace and take advantage of the tools technology offers.

Today's education systems are required to be both effective and efficient, or in other words, to reach the goals set for them while making the best use of available resources.

INDIAN LANGUAGE SCHOOL 2019 - 2020 OUTSIDE SCHOOL LAURELS MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCES

Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an educational simulation and academic activity in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. MUN involves and teaches participants speaking, debating, and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities. It is meant to engage students and allow them to develop deeper understanding into current world issues.

The Nigerian Model United Nations Society (NigMUNS) was founded in 2004 and held its first conferences in 2005. NigMUNS is highly deepened in the urge and rising need to involve young people in participating and simulating the decision-making processes of the United Nations within the context.

Every year the organization makes a deep impression on the lives of thousands of youth across Nigeria and beyond through the continual and successful hosting of MUN conferences. ILS participated in two of the conferences in year 2019-

1. Nigerian International Secondary Schools Model United Nations , (NISSMUN) – 26TH Oct- 31st Oct 2019

2. Regional Secondary Schools Model United Nations, (LARSSMUN)- 16th Nov-20th Nov 2019

NISSMUN and LARSSMUN conferences are a milestone moment when young minds gather together for a common global good. From everywhere near and far, they come to advance the cause of humanity and to form adequately their problem-solving experiment that is important and required in every field of life. INDIAN LANGUAGE SCHOOL 2019 - 2020 EXPERIENCES OF DELEGATES AT NISSMUN 2019 - ABUJA

After achieving success In LARRSMUN consecutively for two years it was time for Indian Language School to step it up and so from 26- 30 October 2019 ILS took part in Nigerian International Secondary School Model United Nations Or NISSMUN held at the nation's captial Abuja . Leading this team as a Head of Delegation for the first time to such a prestigious event was indeed a wonderful experience and wouldn't have been possible without the guidance of our Principal Mrs. Sonali Gupta and the relentless and selfless efforts of Mrs Dam and Mrs Mathews who have been the backbone on the MUN programme in ILS.

NISSMUN 2019 has been a changing point in my life - it has helped me grow as person , understand about national problem and how to use the 21st century skills to combact those issue and going through pages of research papers ,articles made me understand how we should appreciate our life every single moment. MUN also instils debating skills , teaches you how to open up make new friends , facility brotherhood and brings variety of people of different caste , culture and religion to come together to get their minds to work to eradicate the global problem .

Over those 5 days in Abuja away from home was not an easy experience. But thanks to such a wonderful team that made me feel home away from home. Also we were fortunate enough to visit the Indian Embassy in Abuja and meet the High Commissioner of India to Nigeria.

Overall the entire MUN journey changed me as person. The experience is not as easy as it seems to be there were problem and obstacle all along the way but we made through it together as one family.

I remember Mrs Dam once said ,'' The friendship that you will make in those 5 days in Abuja that will go till the end ."and it was true . Although we went as a bunch of 16 friends but we sure did come back as family .

I would strongly recommend everyone to take part in the MUN be it the school MUN or LARSMUN or NISSMUN don't let go of this wonderful opportunity and signing off without team motto "ONE LOVE ONE FAMILY” - Chirag Satpathy, XII - Head of Delegation

INDIAN LANGUAGE SCHOOL 2019 - 2020 People often sit at home, listening to news, appreciating or criticising new policies made by the government, believing almost anything flashed on their screens and thinking that the media's opinions are actually their own. I too, was one of them. However, NISSMUN 2019 taught me that not every decision taken by a country produces the outcome expected by the people and that sometimes policies that might seem unnecessary to us may actually turn the world around. It has changed the way I look at world problems now.

When I started researching about my country, I realized that so many policies just existed for the sake of existing and that none of them had been implemented properly. However being a delegate of the country, I had to defend it no matter what! And isn't that exactly what happens at the actual UN?

What I am implying is that MUN has exposed me to the reality of politics. Furthermore, every conference taught me something new. I learned to deal with others, speak (using a diplomatic language) and also made new friends at the conference, many of whom I remember only by the countries assigned to them.

MUN is another experience altogether and students, if given the opportunity, should definitely take part in it. -Saloni Khule - XI

This trip has been one of the best learning experience I've ever had. It wasn't just the 5 days that we spent in Abuja but, also the months of training we had prior to this that taught me about building relationships with my peers and my seniors, learning to speak confidently in front of a crowd, team work, information about my country, the committee I was allotted and most importantly it gave me an opportunity to know more about the crisis the world is facing and how my little efforts can make a huge change.

I have always been able to communicate well and make new friends, but this experience gave me the platform to understand myself better, it allowed me to meet new people, learn about their cultures, their languages and enabled me to make companions that I will maintain with forever. Apart from this the trip also taught me about the essence of hard work. I remember spending my night and day, burning the midnight lamp to research about my country, prepare myself for the committee sessions and edit position papers and I was able to reap the fruits of my effort.

I thank the school for giving me this opportunity to not just enhance my capabilities and learn to survive in a new environment but, also for giving me one of the best teams I have ever had that I now consider my family. -Pranay Kabra - XI

Being a delegate at the Nigerian International Secondary School. Model United Nations was a memorable experience, one that will stay with me forever. My fellow peers and I became closer than ever. Now we share a bond that time can only ravage but never truly break. The people I met at the conference came from the different corners of Nigeria and some came by bus in an eight hour journey, while some came on one hour flights. I met other people with interests similar to mine and some with different opinions ,yet an understanding mind. As a senior who will be leaving school in a few months, I would tell all students to immerse themselves in all their experiences and learn something from everything as even the dirt on the ground has a lesson to teach. -Lidia Jojy - XII -MUN: A Life Making Experience

INDIAN LANGUAGE SCHOOL 2019 - 2020 like most of us at the start, I too endeavored to seek self-centered gains in the quest that mandated each one of us to traverse the undulating plains that lay dissipated across the cities of Lagos and Abuja. We took flight as a mob of representative delegates, unaware of the personal grudges we harbored against one another, nevertheless, to return as an army of consolidated siblings, linked by an infinite chain of warmth and affection that terminated our spites. Indeed, no set of words can truly shed light on the memories we mutually forged.

On a personal level, the bonds we developed outweighed the titles we secured after the campaign. The entire program facilitated a platform for improvement in all respects; namely leadership, responsibility, discipline, teamwork, and humility. Additionally, a few of us were bestowed with the rare opportunity of an interactive session with the Ambassador of Denmark himself; it was an exceptional experience.

The cultural night was another ecstasy, with institutions showcasing their endless collection of vibrant conventional attires. Lastly, these five days have taught me more than years of monotonous teaching could ever have, made more friends than I could ever have, and learned what I couldn't have otherwise. I appeal to fellow students to take full advantage of this learning occasion to enhance their overall profile and establish a sustainable variant of themselves. - Pritik Saini - XII

I'd like to thank Mrs. Sonali Gupta and the school for giving us this wonderful opportunity. Words fall short to describe our experience in Abuja. This was the first time the school had sent a delegation to Abuja and its really a very delightful matter that we won the Best School Delegation. The win could be seen as a bouquet of roses but to make that bouquet we all faced the thorns yet kept going strong. Hats off to our head of delegation Chirag Satpathy because he put the most amount of efforts and took care of all of us. I really cannot describe in words Chirag's role in the MUN. All of us used to sleep by 2 in the night and wake up by 5 busy drafting resolutions doing research and each one of us put in enormous amounts of efforts in this conference. What I feel we embedded was how to keep going on no matter how we are feeling and keep striving to win. And I would like to give my sincere gratitude towards Mrs. Leena Dam.

Honestly speaking no amount of words could describe the work she put in . I'd really wish I could've been able to convey my immense respect and love for her. I'd like to conclude by saying, The NISSMUN conference of 2019 is one that will stay in my heart because the 16 children went as delegates but came back as a strong family. - Yash Lamkhade - XII

INDIAN LANGUAGE SCHOOL 2019 - 2020 NISSMUN 2019 was a unique and memorable experience for all. It was not only about the competition it was about much more. The competition taught us many things it enhanced our debating skills and ability to talk with new people and make new friends. It was also a cultural experience since many of us despite living in Nigeria do not engage much with the locals and are always in a comfort zone. But over there you are placed outside your comfort zone in an unknown place with new people and talking to them teaches you about their culture and lifestyle and shows you how much we all have in common despite our regional and cultural differences. It was also a team bonding experience. All of us went there as a team and our experiences in those five days brought us closer to each other. NISSMUN 2019 was a very beautiful and enriching event. - Vedant Parikh - XII
