Vision, Mission and Values

Vision Draft: As a community of faith, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, Sunnybank inspires students to be lifelong, independent faith filled learners. This foundation empowers our students to take their place as purposeful people with the courage, wisdom and will to shape and enrich our world. Mission Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School fosters the values and teachings of Jesus Christ. These values are embedded in the Mary MacKillop Charism and honour our school’s patron Saint, Our Lady of Lourdes. Our Lady of Lourdes School is an inclusive community, providing an holistic education of body, mind and spirit. We aspire to teach, challenge and transform in our welcoming and nurturing learning environment. This is achieved through active and positive partnerships between students, staff, families, parish and the wider community. In striving for excellence we aim to inspire students to be responsible for their learning and to reach their full potential as lifelong learners. Our Lady of Lourdes School offers a Catholic perspective within the community. We acknowledge the importance of justice, demonstrated through compassion and are committed to being a positive influence in the lives of all. Values Excellence- quality Learning and Teaching is a shared expectation. Commitment- as a community we nurture the gifts and talents of all for the common good. Principal’s foreword

Introduction The 2018 Annual Report presents information for reporting requirements and informs the wider community of our school’s operations and achievements through the year. The report includes information on the school’s profile, delivery, social climate, environmental footprint, school funding, workforce composition and student performance.

School progress towards its goals in 2018 The school met or exceeded the 2018 reading goals in Year 1 and Year 2. Eighty-four percent of students in Prep met the reading targets. All year levels met or exceeded the writing goal and fifty-six percent of students achieved above or well above for English.

The school has embedded the Kidsmatter framework to encourage improved well-being outcomes for those in our community. The stewardship of resources has led to improved access to technology through a 1-1 Ipad program.

Excellent learning and teaching

1. By the end of 2018, students in P-2 will be maintain or exceed BCE targets in PM Benchmarks (92% in Prep and Year 1; 95% in Year 2) and students in Year 3-6 will be maintaining or exceeding BCE targets in Writing (>90%). As a result, 70% students will be achieving Well Above and Above in SRS reporting. In addition, increase the number of students in the top two bands of NAPLAN by 20%.

Building a sustainable future

1. By the end of 2018 we will have created processes that ensure stewardship of resources with transparency, accountability and compliance and build sustainability through people and capability to have a positive impact on student educational and well-being outcomes.

Characteristics of the student body The students of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School have both Catholic and non-Catholic affiliations. Our students live in the Parish of Sunnybank and surrounding areas. We have a diverse blend of students who were born in or who now call Australia home but who were born overseas. Our students come from or have family links to 62 countries. When our students complete Year 6 at our school they choose to attend the following schools (in order with most popular destination schools listed first): St Thomas More College, Sunnybank; Clairvaux-MacKillop College, Upper Mt Gravatt; St Laurence's College, South Brisbane; , Coorparoo; , Hawthorne; Our Lady's College, Annerley; Gregory Terrace College, Brisbane and All Hallow's College, Brisbane.

Curriculum delivery Approach to curriculum delivery Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School is a co-educational school located in the Sunnybank Catholic Parish. The school follows the Australian Curriculum and offers a modern teaching and learning environment with an emphasis on the development of a Catholic understanding of the world through the development of literacy and numeracy as well as healthy students both physically, mentally and spiritually in the Charism of St Mary MacKillop of the Cross. This emphasis is combined with opportunities to enjoy rich experiences in music, visual arts and physical education leading to a broad educational experience for our children. Co-curricular activities Instrumental Music: Our students may elect to participate in individual or group lessons. Tuition is offered in: Piano; Strings; Guitar; Percussion; Brass and Woodwind Instruments. The School Band and Choir participate each year in the Catholic Music Festival. Sport: All students participate in in our School Pool; Cross Country and Athletics with our better performing students representing our school in a variety of Catholic and State Carnivals. In Term 2, our Years 4 to 6 students participate in an interschool Sports Program on Friday afternoons. Opportunities exist for our students to represent our school, district, region and state in a variety of sports. A coach and a coach hold coaching sessions after school for students who would like to learn more about these sports. Many of our students are members of Sunnybank Swim Club; Sunnybank Rugby Club; Saints Soccer Club and Saints Club. How information and communication technologies are used to assist learning Students have access to laptop and Ipad banks. All classrooms are fitted with interactive whiteboards and staff use the ICLT capabilities in their planning. The school has developed a 1-1 Ipad program for 2019 for students in Years 3-6.

Social climate Overview Our school uses the Positive Behaviour 4 Learning Program (PB4L). As part of the PB4L Program the school has a Bully Policy incorporated into our Whole School Student Behaviour Support Plan. Through this we strive to ensure that Our Lady of Lourdes School is a Bully Free Zone. All staff are trained in the PB4L system and students are regularly reminded through our Gold Card and Stop Card Program in lessons, presentations at Assembly and reminders of the Rule of the Week through our Gold Radio on the PA system. The School Rules are clearly displayed through our GOLD Posters which remind students that, 'At Our Lady of Lourdes School, Great Students: * Only Speak to Please; * Listen and Follow Directions; * Do Keep Hands and Feet to Ourselves.' A Buddy System operates through our school providing positive experiences for our older and younger students to meet and support each other. Our Lady of Lourdes School is a harmonious school where a wide

variety of cultures meet and work together. Our students are happy and are happy to come to school each day. Family and community engagement The school provides numerous opportunities for parents to be involved in the education of their children through activities such as: assisting reading Activities; Art Activities; Swimming Lessons and involvement in the Early Years Perceptual Motor Program. The school has a Reporting Process which provides opportunities for parents to formally meet with teachers twice a year to discuss their child's progress. All classes hold Open Classroom opportunities to allow students the opportunity to showcase their work to parents and others in our community. Many parents also assist with supervision of students whilst on class excursions undertaken by grade levels in the school year. The Parents & Friends Association (P&F) attempts to organise parent evenings and Information Nights on educational subjects. The school as both a School Board and a P&F Association.

Description of how non-attendance is managed by the school Our attendance rate is very high. Attendance is registered electronically twice daily using our school management system. Parents/carers contact the school to explain any absences from school. This may be done via the phone, email, letter to the teacher or notification on our school app. Should a student be marked 'Absent- Unexplained' in the class roll a school SMS is sent to the parents of that student. If they do not respond it is followed up with a call from a member of the school Leadership Team to ascertain the reason for the absence.
