Myanmar, Korea to Build Industrial Facility North of Yangon  the Joint-Venture Signing Ceremony Is Held in Naypyitaw on Thursday Burma Myanmar, Korea to Build Industrial Facility North of Yangon The joint-venture signing ceremony is held in Naypyitaw on Thursday. / Ministry of Information By THE IRRAWADDY 9 August 2019 YANGON—Myanmar’s Urban and Housing Development Department (UHDD) on Thursday signed a joint venture agreement with Korea Land and Housing Corporation to establish a joint industrial complex in Hlegu, north of the commercial capital Yangon. Comprising industrial and commercial areas as well as a research-and-development facility and a training school, the Korea Myanmar Industrial Complex (KMIC) will be implemented by the two government agencies on nearly 600 acres in Nyaung Hna Pin village. The site includes the venue where the military regime held the National Convention at which it drafted the 2008 Constitution. At the signing ceremony in Naypyitaw, Union Minister for Construction U Han Zaw said the KMIC project will create from 50,000 to 100,000 jobs and support the development of the industrial, export and human resource sectors in Yangon Region and Myanmar. According to the Yangon Project Bank, the project will be built on 558 acres and focus on production of goods for export. With an estimated cost of US$110 million (166.2 billion kyats), it is expected to include small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as heavy industry and a vocational school. Around 200 Korean companies are expected to invest in the production facilities, which will generate a projected $10 million in taxes annually. A map showing the location of the proposed Korea- Myanmar Industrial Complex / KMIC website In 2017, the Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH) and Myanmar’s Ministry of Construction signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the project, which was approved by the Myanmar Investment Commission in February 2019. The first feasibility study for the project was completed in 2015 and the Myanmar government approved LH’s letter of intent the following year. The idea for the complex came about after the Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation of Myanmar and South Korea agreed to boost trade between the two countries in June 2013. Myanmar’s Parliament last year gave the green light to seek $61.8 million in loans from the EXIM Bank of Korea for three infrastructure projects in support of KMIC: the upgrading of a highway; a power plant; and a new water supply channel. The infrastructure projects will start this year and are expected to be finished in 2021. Yangon Project Bank said the entire infrastructure project is expected to be complete by 2023. The Yangon regional government has been drumming up investment for international- standard industrial zones in 11 townships with the aim of boosting development and job opportunities for local people, as well as reducing overcrowding and traffic congestion in the metropolitan area. At the Yangon Investment Forum 2019 in May, the Yangon regional government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a consortium of Hong Kong and Taiwan companies to develop a $500-million international-standard industrial zone on more than 1,000 acres in Htantabin Township in the west of Yangon. At present, due to the rapid advance in technology, a number of electronic devices for indoor recreation have widely been used in several places, especially in urban areas. However, outdoor recreation is also important for physical and mental relaxation for the sake of less expense of money as well as for healthy lifestyles. Moreover, it is the most appropriate type of recreation for all lifestyles, whether male or female, young or adult, rich or poor, single or married and so on. Therefore, this study attempts to highlight the existing distribution pattern of some outdoor recreation sites, particularly parks and gardens of Yangon City from geographical point of view. Introduction ‘Recreation’ means any activity done for pleasure in leisure time without expensing any money. The choice of recreation depends on individual interest, ability, one's income. This means that some hobbies e.g. golf, have a limited range of socio-economic classes involved. Personal choice is influenced by a range of factors including age and gender, education and interests, socio-economic group, occupation and status, family and stage in the life cycle, time available, distances involved transport available and facilities needed (Ganderton, 2000). At present due to the rapid advance of technology, a number of electronic devices for indoor recreation overwhelm in several places especially in urban areas. Modern recreation facilities may temporarily remove the mental stress caused by monotonous daily routine, transport difficulties, noise pollution etc., but these facilities may, in the end, cause both physical and mental defect, unless there is insufficient fresh air, green cover and open space for exercise.

    初期環境影響評価報告書 要約 ミャンマーは電力不足や長時間にわたる停電が頻発しており、その結果として、 電力に依存する同国の経済、市民の生活水準、その他における発展が阻害されて いる。 電力省は電力不足を克服するため、海外の金融機関や開発パートナーと共に、新 たな水力発電の発電源、送電線・変電所の新設、既存施設の更新、持続可能で再 生可能なエネルギーの開発、その他利用可能なエネルギーについて検討し、発電、 送電、配電の開発を加速させようとしている。 500kV の送電線及び変電所の建設はミャンマーの電力網設備の強化のために不可 欠であり、ミャンマーの電力需要を満たすため重要な役割を果たす。 プロジェクト概要 500kV 送電線の調査範囲はバゴー管区のパヤジー変電所からヤンゴン管区にある ラインタヤ変電所までである。送電線はバゴー管区にある 3 つの群区とヤンゴン管 区にある 1 つの群区にまたがる。95km の送電線は 219 基の様々タイプの鉄塔によ り構成され、平均スパンは 450m (0.27 マイル)である。送電線の大部分はプラン テーションや劣化した森林、下草の生えた土地や農地を通過する。 プロジェクトは受送電を行う 4 つの変電所を建設する。変電所の建設地はメティ ラ、タングー、パヤジーそしてラインタヤが提案されている。 プロジェクトエリアの自然環境 変電所及び送電線のプロジェクトエリアは主に農地であり、所々熱帯雨林も含ま れる。バゴー川及びライン川が水生生物の主な生息地である。 すでに開発はかなり進んでおり、環境や景観への影響がある。地形は平地と丘が 混在している。低木林は一般的な半常緑樹の再生林で確認された。プロジェクト エリアの開発はかなり進んでおり、生物多様性は低く、生息環境は悪化している。 アジアゾウやビルマメダマガメのような絶滅の危機に瀕した種がこの地域に生息 する可能性はある、頻繁ではない。 Moeyungyi 湿地野生生物保護区はパヤジー変電所から約 10.7km のところにある。 Kyetthauk 野生生物保護区はバゴー管区内バゴーヨマ丘陵の下に位置するタング ー変電所から南西に 3.2km の所にあるが、ミャンマーでは保護区としては正式に 登録されていない。ヤンゴン管区にある Hlawga 野生生物公園は、至近の送電線か ら 7.5km 東のところに位置し、保護区のリストには野生動物公園として登録され いる。プロジェクトの性質及び距離から、保護区への影響与えないと考えられる。 ヤンゴン及びバゴー管区は熱帯モンスーン気候である。5 月から 10 月までの長い 雨季に年間の降雨量の大部分が降る。11 月から 4 月までの乾季はほとんど雨の降 らない。ヤンゴンにある気象水文局によるとバゴー管区周辺の平均気温は 26.9 °C そして平均降雨量は 3260 mm (128 インチ)である。ヤンゴン管区周辺の平均気 温は 27.4 °C そして平均降雨量は 2787 mm (109 インチ)である。 メティラ郡区は中央ミャンマーの乾燥地域に位置しており、熱帯の乾燥した気候 である。4 月が最も暑く平均気温が 31.1 ˚C、12 月が最も寒く平均気温が 21.4˚C である。メティラ郡区の年間の降雨量は 809 mm (32 インチ)である。 メティラ、タングーの地質は中新世から漸新世にかけて形成された上部ペグー層 群及びイラワジ層の堆積物で構成されている。 上部ペグー層は青灰色頁岩、黄色がかった茶色がかった砂岩や砂石灰岩で構成さ れている。イラワジ層は粘土と豊富な木材化石が特徴である。上部ペグー層群は イラワジ層に覆われている。 プロジェクトエリアの社会環境

But do the newly arrived poor find what they seek in Yangon? This paper looks at the situation if Yangon’s poorest residents, the slum dwellers. It explores what happens to hopeful migrants once they have entered the city limits, and along the way it discovers that other poor residents, priced out of the inner-city are also migrating to other parts of Yangon in search of more affordable living situations.
