Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips December 15, 2017 Filppula’s goal leads Flyers to 5th straight win By AARON BRACY Associated Press Dec. 15, 2017 PHILADELPHIA (AP) — No longer struggling, the suddenly confident Philadelphia Flyers are now able to overcome their own blunders. Valtteri Filppula scored the game-winner with 2 1/2 minutes left in the second period and Travis Sanheim netted his first career goal to help the Flyers win their fifth straight game, 2-1 over the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday night. Brian Elliott rebounded from a costly mistake early in the game to make 19 saves for the Flyers, whose winning streak has come on the heels of a 10-game losing streak. The winning stretch began with a three-game Canadian trip that started with coach Dave Hakstol changing the team’s formation to a more defensive-minded 1-2-2 alignment. Philadelphia (13-11-7) has outscored opponents 19-8 since. Buffalo opened the scoring 1 1/2 minutes into the game thanks to a miscue by Elliott. The Flyers goalie attempted to clear the puck from behind the net, but he passed right to Buffalo’s Zemgus Girgensons. The Buffalo center then passed in front to Ryan O’Reilly, who shot into an empty net for his eighth goal of the season. “A little miscommunication and a bad play on my part,” Elliott said. But the Flyers didn’t get rattled — something that maybe wouldn’t have happened two weeks ago. “You can take a punch better when you have a swagger to your game,” Hakstol said. -

MSG Net- works, an industry leader in production and technology, is the nation’s longest-running re- gional sports network. The first regional sports network to produce games in HDTV and winner of 95 New York Emmy Awards, MSG Networks is part of Madison Square Garden L.P. In addition to being home of the Sa- bres, MSG Network’s award-winning programming line-up also boasts the New York Knicks, New York Rangers, New York Islanders, New Jersey Devils, New York Liberty and over 400 live college football and basketball games. In 2013-14, all Sabres telecasts –including games in New York/New Jersey – will be produced and broadcast by the team’s in-house broadcasting teams and will feature the Sabres broadcasters and analysts exclusively. Entercom Buffalo is the licensee ofStations WBEN(AM), WGR(AM), WTSS(FM), WWKB(AM) and WWWS(AM), Buffalo, New York; WKSE(FM), Niagara Falls, New York; and WLKK(FM), Wethersfield Township, New York. As discussed below, the Commission's current policies with regard to broadcast localism properly allow licensees the flexibility to address the concerns oftheir communities in inventive and inspiring ways, as demonstrated by the attached summary ofcommunity-oriented programming and activities. There is no reason to impose new regulations on the industry in this regard that potentially would diminish, and not enhance, local community service activities by broadcasters. I. Localism and Deregulation of Radio Content "The concept oflocalism was part and parcel ofbroadcast regulation virtually from its inception." Deregulation ofRadio, 84 FCC 2d 968,994 (1981) ("Radio Deregulation Order"). The Commission has long recognized that, in serving the needs ofits community, a broadcaster should be afforded some latitude in tailoring its programming to the needs ofits listeners. Radio Deregulation Order at 994-98. The Commission acknowledges that it should avoid "regulations 2 that straight-jacket all stations into the same mold." Radio Deregulation Order at 998. More than twenty years ago, therefore, the Commission correctly eliminated its non-entertainment programming guidelines for commercial broadcast radio, requiring only that stations offer programming responsive to the issues ofconcern to the station's listeners, as discerned by the station licensee. -
