He was born in Portland, a son of George E. and Linnie Green Burnham, and attended Westbrook schools, graduating from Interna­ tional Correspondence School. Mr. Burnham was a teacher in the industrial arts department of Westbrook High, School for 25 years. He had also worked for S.D. Warren Co. He was member of Windham Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the East Windham Community Church, a 67-year member of Warren-Phil­ ~orgc Burnham lips Lodge, Westbrook; a member of the Scottish Rite Yalley of Portland, past patron of Evangeline ChapleP, OES, of Windham, and a member of the Rotary. During World War I, he served in the Navy. He was predeceased by a daughter, Muriel E. Cummings, in Aprill991. Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Muriel Slocum Burnham of Windham; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Restored Remarksayw john C. Burnham worked for highway department LITCHFIELD - J ohn C. Burnham, 97, of Plains Road, died Thursday at Kennebec Long Term Care in Augusta after a brief illness. ' He was born in Franklin, a son of Edwin G. and Victoria Remick Burnham, and attended schools in Ellsworth and CuUer. He attended Washington Academy and graduated from Litchfield Academy in 1914. He lived in Freedom for several years, where he served on the Board of Selectmen, farmed and became a road builder. From 1926-1956 he worked for the [l;laine State Highway Department in various capacities, from highway supervisor to assistant chief engineer. In 1950, he was elected president of the Association of Highway Officials of the North Atlantic States. From 1956-1959 he was executive secretary of Maine Good Roads and editor of The Maine Trail. Mr. Burnham was a member of the Order of Masons of freedom, Kora Temple Shrine, Litchfield Grange and the Litchfield Plains Cemetery Association. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Augusta Country Club for many years. Ellen Grove Phillips, his first wife, died in 1962. Swviving are his wife of 30 years, Evelyn Mae
