    ATTIKO METRO (ATHENS METRO BASE PROJECT), ATTIKI, GREECE OVERVIEW INTRODUCTION LOCATION : ATTIKI REGION, GREECE The Athens Metro Base Project SCOPE: INTRA -URBAN is a 17.6km underground rapid TRANSPORT MODE: METRO transit network in metropolitan PRINCIPAL CONSTRUCTION: TUNNEL Athens. Its two lines serve 20 NEW LINK : YES stations and opened in three PRINCIPAL OBJECTIVES stages in 2000 and 2003. MODERNISE TRANSPORT NETWORK TRAVEL TIME SAVINGS The two lines connect at REDUCED POLLUTION Syntagma station, and three ALTERNATIVE TO CAR TRAVEL CONGESTION RELIEF other stations provide URBAN REGENERATION connections to the pre-existing ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT metropolitan railway line.
