Sand Nourishment Forum – Sand Nourishment Reference list October 2013 Updated from Coasts & Ports Conference, Sydney 2013 Potentially Useful Beach Nourishment and Associated Studies/Projects – References Foreword: The Coasts & Ports 2013 Organising Committee introduced a half- day Sand Nourishment Forum comprising a Questions and Answers format directed to an experienced Panel with audience participation to explore and promote the use of sand nourishment as a viable method for managing short term erosion and long term coastal recession. The Forum emanated from great interest in beach nourishment around Australia, with a long history of successful projects from Adelaide to Noosa and major projects on the Gold Coast. The 2013 Conference was launched with a keynote address from Dr Stefan Aarninkhof who was intricately involved in the Delfland Sand Engine project in the Netherlands, which has introduced 21.5M m3 of offshore sands to the Dutch coast to provide coastal protection and prevent coastal inundation. As a precursor to the Beach Nourishment Forum at the Coast & Ports Conference 2013 in Sydney, A. D. Gordon (Forum Moderator) compiled the following list of reference material with contributions from J.T. Carley, E.D. Couriel, A. L. Jackson, A.R Jones, D.B. Lord, A.F. Nielsen, T.D. Shand, R.B. Tomlinson, T. Stul, R. Tucker. The list is intended to be a start on a “live “ document that can be added to, as further reference material becomes available/unearthed. The list has been compiled to assist those carrying out or contemplating beach nourishment, beach scraping and entrance by-passing or back-passing projects. It is hoped that other special interest topics to the coastal and port engineering profession may be run in similar forums as part of the future Coasts & Ports Conference series. -

These DRAFTwere: DRAFT DRAFT 1. Road traffic data for western Sydney sector arterials: Great Western Highway and M4 Motorway 1985 – 1995 2. Rail ticketing data and passenger journey estimates for the Western Sydney Rail Line 1985 – 1995 These have now been combined and are presented here as part of an ongoing series of case studies in induced traffic growth from the Sydney Metropolitan Region. In the first, report which focussed on road traffic volumes, an error was made. The location points of road traffic counting stations were incorrect. Although this error does not affect the general conclusions, details of some of the analysis presented in this version are different to that presented in the original papers listed above. Some data additions have also been made, and so the accompanying commentary has been expanded. Acknowledgements During the collation of this data Mr Barry Armstrong from the NSW Roads & Traffic Authority provided invaluable information on road data collection methods as well as problems with data integrity. -

F6 Extension Stage 1 Submission from the Illawarra Business Chamber to Roads and Maritime Services Illawarra Business Chamber Level 1, 87-89 Market Street Wollongong NSW 2500 (p) (02) 4229 4722 (e) [email protected] 27 July 2018 F6 Extension Stage 1 2 Summary The Illawarra Business Chamber (IBC) welcomes the NSW Government’s commitment to commence Stage 1 works of the F6 Extension and the opportunity to provide feedback on this proposal. The IBC recognises that this consultation is focussed on the intended planning and delivery of Stage 1. Even so, this submission will highlight the benefits to be realised through bringing forward the planning and projected delivery of Stage 2 and Stage 3 works, and discuss the findings and projections detailed in the report Upgrading Road Connectivity Between the Illawarra and Greater Sydney (May 2018) commissioned by Illawarra First together with the NRMA and conducted by Veitch Lister Consulting (VLC), which in part addresses the F6 Extension. Key Findings The IBC notes the significant benefits to be realised through advancing the timings for the complete F6 Extension, in addition to concurrent infrastructure works. Key findings of this submission, consistent with the aforementioned report, highlight the need for government to consider the F6 project in its entirety, and as complementing other works: - Key Finding 1 Without intervention, congestion and travel times from the Illawarra to Greater Sydney will steadily increase and the cost of delays is estimated at $640 million per annum by 2031, impacting business and employment opportunities. - Key Finding 2 The F6 Extension Stage 1 will save commuters 6 minutes along the length of the new road, 12 minutes once Stages 2 and 3 are complete. -
