  • East Yorkshire Countryside Directory for People with Disabilities
East Yorkshire Countryside Directory for People with Disabilities second edition Whatever your needs, access to and enjoyment of the countryside is rewarding, healthy and great fun. This directory can help you find out what opportunities are available to you in your area. Get yourself outdoors and enjoy all the benefits that come with it… With a foreword by The Hon. Mrs Susan Cunliffe-Lister, HM Lord-Lieutenant of the East Riding of Yorkshire This directory was put together by people with a disability for people with a disability, though the places and information included will be useful to anyone. With a wealth of hidden treasures, East Yorkshire is often referred to as ‘Britain’s best kept secret’. Savour its traditions, stately homes, stunning nature reserves and colourful seaside life. East Yorkshire has many claims to fame; did you know, for example, that Britain’s tallest man came from Market Weighton, and that Hull is home to England’s smallest window? For people interested in wildlife and conservation there is much that can be done from home or a local accessible area. Whatever your chosen form of countryside recreation, whether it’s joining a group, doing voluntary work, or getting yourself out into the countryside on your own, we hope you will get as much out of it as we do. There is still some way to go before we have a properly accessible countryside. By contacting Open Country or another of the organisations listed here, you can help to encourage better access for all in the future. Revised March 2015.

  • 3 Beverley and Central Sub Area
3 Beverley and Central Sub Area Elloughton-cum-Brough: ECB-B Type of Housing Site is suitable for a mixed use Land South of Welton Low Road development. There is a need for smaller properties (1 and 2 bedroom) in the sub area. Delivery Considerations There is an archaeological interest in the site due to the historic nature of the settlement, therefore appropriate investigations and a Heritage Statement will be required prior to the design and layout. A Roman Road may have crossed the site. A shortfall in public open space and sport facilities in the area requires this site to supply additional playing pitches and open space. There are planned improvements to the adjacent highway junction that will involve land to the north-east of the site, and potentially a small portion of the site itself – a Transport Assessment will be required. A comprehensive Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS) must be incorporated and Site Description although the site lies in a low risk flood ECB-B is a large site that presents the area (Flood Zone 1), a Flood Risk opportunity for residential development Assessment will also be required due to and open space in a popular residential the size of the site. location. The site is bound by existing development to the south and west and sits well in relation to the main settlement Anticipated Timescales for Delivery of Elloughton-cum-Brough. The village lies The site has no significant constraints and along the east-west transport corridor should be deliverable within the next 5 and is easily accessible.

  • The Church of St Mary the Virgin, Elloughton, East Yorkshire a HISTORY and GUIDE
The Church of St Mary the Virgin, Elloughton, East Yorkshire A HISTORY AND GUIDE 2 INTRODUCTION This guide book aims to give the reader an insight into this beautiful and very ancient, Grade II* Listed church, dedicated to St Mary the Virgin. Spanning some 900+ years, there has been a church here, being identified in the Domesday Book of 1086. St Mary, in Elloughton, is one part of the United Benefice of Elloughton and Brough (All Saints’) with Brantingham (All Saints’), by way of an Order in Council, dated 7th June 1968. There has been a previous “Brief History of St Mary’s Church, Elloughton”, mainly put together by the Revd. Malcolm Anker in 1981. Some of this has been amalgamated and reproduced into this guide and the Parochial Church Council is very grateful for his work. The church has seen much history and can suitably claim to be at the heart of village life in Elloughton, and beyond, as would be expected. From its humble beginning, being recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086, it has passed through a period of virtual neglect in the mid-16th century to a re- birth following a disastrous fire in October 1964. © 2015 Elloughton and Brough Parochial Church Council. (PCC) Researched and written by Mr Ron Freeman Edited by Mr John Jones Assisted by Mrs Diane Moffatt Photographs kindly provided by Stephen Todd are on pages 7, 19, 21, 22, 23, 2, 26, 27 & 28 3 ELLOUGHTON The village of Elloughton lies approximately 12 miles (19 km.) to the west of Kingston upon Hull, to the south side of the A63 road and on the southern end of the Yorkshire Wolds.
