Despite the rapid growth and success of the Yakut cinema in recent years, the development of animation in this arctic region, runs more quietly, which is apparently due primarily to insufficient number of trained professionals. The backbone of the future Yakut animation industry, it is mainly students and graduates of the St. Petersburg State University of Cinema and Television. And the most famous in Yakutia director and animator Robert Labidas - a graduate of the Higher Courses for Scriptwriters and Directors in 1999 (workshop Fedor Khitruk and ). The main efforts are concentrated Yakut animation now authoring short animation based on folklore.

Vorkuta. Of unusual animation activity, according to an internet search, this arctic city not found. But certainly in the urban theater "Cascade" in 2013 went to Russian and foreign box office cartoon.

Development of Arctic issues in the professional community.

In addition to the previously mentioned and is in the drafting of the series "The Adventures of a baby mammoth Lyuba" and complete the production of the author's short film "Cuckoo" as the most relevant and close to the subject of the Arctic is in production at the moment can be marked series "Shaman’s Quest" by animation studio ""(Moscow) . An animated film "Snow Queen" in 3D from studio "" (Voronezh), loosely based on the fairy tale by and released in rent at the end of 2012. In 2013 was not bad in the Russian box. This cartoon, unlike most Russian full meters, had a full-fledged international distribution, and has won numerous prizes at Russian and international film festivals. Danish fairy tale writer, a national of the Arctic countries, has been 170 years is not indifferent to the children, and for some time now - and filmmakers. In 2013, the studio "Wizart Animation" received an offer from a European animation studio on the establishment of a co-production of the Arctic animated series tentatively titled "Tales of ". With this offer I addressed to the Russian animators of Leslie MacKenzie - the director of animation studio West Highland Animation (Scotland). We will remind that Leslie Mackenzie is interested more than 10 years in cultures of the people of the Arctic, and since 2009 it coordinated start in production of animation series "Arctic Ring" (in a coproduction with studios "Nukufilm", Estonia, and "Camera Cagliostro", Finland). The first season of the Arctic Ring project had to include thirteen series (for 11 minutes everyone) author's animated films according to fairy tales and myths of the people of the world Arctic. Total cost of the project – 1 million euros. But difficulties with search of the potential investors, connected, probably, with lack of the "arctic" trend in the european and world animation, forced Lesley to look for potential partners for implementation of the "Arctic Ring" project in Russia.

(Still from the series "Arctic Ring") According to available information, the image of the Snow Queen in this project will be recognizable media-franchise representing viewer’s fairy tales, myths and folklore of the peoples living in the circumpolar region of the planet. Will this project a reality, becoming a national Arctic analogue "Mountain of Gems"? Tell whether the Snow Queen fairy tale audience cold infinity under the motto "We live in the Arctic!"? Time will tell...

(Still from the film "Snow Queen", 2012)

And while negotiations, northern cartoons of animation studio "" (Moscow) have gone to the Arctic and the audience participated in the program "Russian Film Week in Iceland", which took place from 25 to 31 October in Reykjavik. "Film Week" became a link in a succession of great cultural events organized in the framework of the Northern Traveling Film Festival (Director - Marina Yuzhaninova), and the 70th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Russia and Iceland. (Still from the film "How to reconcile the Sun and Moon", 2008)

And finally, two other important events for the development of the Arctic animation took place in Moscow in late 2013. First, in October, the Russian Geographical Society was first established and organized a competition for media grants 2014. Society will be supported 20 projects documentaries, popular science and animated films, including the Arctic and themes, namely: films about life and crafts of indigenous peoples of the North, on environmental security, climate change scenarios, on biodiversity and on industrial development of the region. Total funding media grants - 30 million rubles (1 million $).

Second, on November 11, Committee on Culture of the State Duma held a round table on "On the legislative proposals for the support of children and domestic animated films". The meeting was attended by deputies of the State Duma, the Federation Council, representatives of the Presidential Administration, the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Communications and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation, Ministry of Economic Development, representatives of the Association of animated films , animation and film studios, production centers , cinema chains and television channels. Among the many important issues discussed, in particular, the head of the studio "Animakkord" Dmitry Loveiko touched upon the need for government assistance in dubbing films into the national languages of the peoples living in Russia, such as Tatar, Bashkir, Yakut and others. But so far to solve this problem, according to the participants of the Round Table, studio executives standing by actively seeking funds for these projects, appealing directly to the heads of national subjects of Russia.

(Still from the film "Samoyed Boy", 1928)

Arctic trend as a premonition.

The growing importance of the Arctic in the modern world, and so the increased interest in the Arctic in Russia and abroad, perhaps, lets talk about the need to create a thematic "arctic" trend in Russian animation, as well as talk about the creation and promotion of the arctic animation brands. It should be noted that, in fact, "arctic" trend in domestic animation already exists, but is in a latent state. Starting from the movie "Samoyed Boy"(1928) and soviet chronicles ("Soyuzmultfilm") paintings 30s devoted feats polar scientists and airmen, and ending with "arctic" episodes of "Gem Mountain" and "Multi -Russia" from the production center "Airplane"(Moscow), in the domestic animation theme present in the Arctic and the theme of myths and legends of indigenous peoples living in it. Arctic characters itself this huge cold area bright cartoon episodes presented in films such as "Song of Joy" (1946) by Mstislav Pascenko, "In yaranga burning fire" (1956) by Olga Khodataeva, "The Snow Queen" (1957) by Lev Atamanov, "Who the strongest" (1961 ) by Vladimir Degtyarev, "Daughter of the Sun" (1963) by Alexandra Snezhko-Blotskaya , "Umka" (1969 ) by Vladimir Popov and Vladimir Pekar, "The Tale grandfather Ai-Po" (1976) by Vladimir Danilevich, "Northern Tale" (1979) by Rasa Strautmane, "Master of Winds" (1984) by Galina Turgeneva, "Kutkh and mouses" (1985) by Oksana Cherkasova, "Kele" (1988) by Mikhail Aldashin and Peep Pedmason, "One" (1992) by Oktyabrina Potapova. In all these films, the Arctic is presented not only as a backdrop, but also as the main theme and the protagonist. And followers of the Arctic theme in Russian animation - the project "Gem Mountain" and the project "Lullabies of the World" from "Metronome Film" and studio "Bee" (Moscow) - a lot of work in this direction.

("Chukotka’s Lullaby" from the series "Lullabies of the World", 2003-2010)

So, on what is the vector will evolve in the coming years, the regional Arctic animation infrastructure? This will depend on whether there is an important priority in cinematography cultural policies of the Russian Arctic regions, and, accordingly, how it will be presented in the regional laws and culture in the state regional development programs of culture in the near future.

Drew his attention to whether representatives of the Russian Arctic professional animation community? Tell whether the Russian animation itself and the world of myths and legends about the geography, flora and fauna of the world, and about cities and the people of the Arctic? And also she tells about heroes, pioneers-explorers, scientists, explorers, pilots, sailors and border guards? About oil and gas producers and, of course, she tells about indigenous peoples - reindeer herders, hunters and fishermen? Perhaps at least some of these Arctic fact will be reflected in the "Concept of the animation industry in Russia to 2025", is currently being developed by the Association of Russian animated films.
