In an era dominated by the GM vs Ford contest, the advent of Group A racing in the 1980s brought in teams such as Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) from the UK who competed in a fleet of Jaguar XJS and Rover Vitesse cars. Fahrer, darunter 21 ex DTM Profis, haben sich zu Jahresbeginn in die TWC Meisterschaft eingeschrieben. Damit verdoppelt sich die Anzahl der Anwärter auf den begehrten Titel im Vergleich zu den letzten Jahren. Einer der Gründe hierfür: Erstmals werden Fahrzeuge der sogenannten ‚Goldenen Ära‘ am Samstag Nachmittag in den Mittelpunkt gerückt. Die Autos der frühen DTM Jahre bis 1993 treffen in einem separaten Meisterschaftslauf aufeinander, der über 20 Min ausgetragen wird. Das prestigeträchtige Sprintrennen ruft vermehrt die Altstars auf den Plan. Now, at last, we RICHMOND can fire up those engines and go racing, and so bring our motorsport season spectacularly back to life. Of course, I am very sad and disappointed that you cannot be at the circuit with us but, let me assure you, it’s going to be an utterly unique and memorable event and you won’t miss a minute of the action on all three days. Ironically, because we have to stage the event behind closed doors, we are able to create a spectacle that we would normally never dream of doing. As a live and interactive TV show, SpeedWeek will be brought to you in a way that has never been seen before in motorsport broadcasting. The live stream, and the ITV coverage, will be free to air and will take you right into the heart of the event with all the race action, interviews with the drivers and coverage of the new rally stages, the Shootout for the fastest lap of the circuit, and a sensational celebration of 70 years of Formula 1.
