Along the top of the schedule, Ballston-Farragut Square Line fi nd the stop at or nearest the point where you will get on the bus.     METRO METRO METRO 2017 − 2026 CIP Metro Funding Project Description The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA/Metro) is a unique federal-state-local partnership formed to provide mass transit service to the Washington Metropolitan region. WMATA's Adopted FY 2017 - FY 2022 Capital Budget consists of $6.0 billion of critical system projects necessary to maintain the Metrobus, Metrorail, and Metroaccess systems over the next six years. The program focuses heavily on replacement / rehab of the system's aging rail infrastructure with minimal enhancement investments. Also included is the funding of an additional 220 7000-series railcars and associated rail power system upgrades. These additional railcars will be used to retire all 192 of the original 5000-series railcars, one of the most unreliable series in the current fleet. The remaining 28 railcars will be used for minimal capacity expansion along the red line. Funding for the WMATA capital program is from a combination of state, federal, regional and local sources. For Arlington, the total adopted six-year funding commitment is approximately $186 million, consisting of $106 million of annual subsidy payments, and $80 million of planned debt issuance by WMATA. Over ten-years, Arlington has programmed $280 million, with increased funding in the out-years primarily for service expansion projects. This fully funds Arlington's baseline funding of WMATA, and funds $55 million of planned debt issuance based on historical capital program execution rates. A combination of general obligation bonds, state grants and regional gas tax are used to fund Arlington's share of WMATA subsidy. A new multi-year capital funding agreement is currently being drafted among WMATA contributing jurisdictions to cover fiscal years 2018 -2023 and is anticipated to begin in the fall of 2016.

Share your input at stations whenever you see this symbol STATION 2 NEEDS & PROCESS CURRENT NEEDS The Blue, Orange, and Silver (BOS) lines share the same tunnel between Rosslyn and Stadium-Armory, and this limits Metro’s ability to: • Run enough trains to meet ridership demand • Manage construction and recover from disruptions • Operate different service patterns We are currently exploring potential solutions to these issues and need your input. Peak-hour trains between Court House and Rosslyn are already crowded. Metro can run only 26 trains per hour through the tunnel. This limits our ability to increase service on any line in order to keep pace with ridership. Running three lines through one tunnel means that a delay on one line impacts all three. FUTURE NEEDS Continued growth in jobs and households will increase ridership, but Metro will not be able to run enough trains to meet that demand. That growth will lead to severe crowding on the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines in the system’s core. Moving to all 8-car trains and higher frequencies will help, but not enough. We need to be able to operate more than 26 trains per hour to meet future demand.
