Genç ama bir o kadar da dinamik olan Üniversitemiz, bilimsel, sosyal ve kültürel alanlarda dünyanın önde gelen üniversiteleriyle rekabet edebilecek uluslararası bir üniversite olma yolunda emin adımlarla ilerlemektedir. Kurulduğu günden bu yana öğrenci, öğretim üyesi sayısı ve niteliği, üniversite düzeyinde yapılan yayın ve araştırma faaliyetleri, teknik donanım ve her türlü kaynak ve bilgiye erişim açısından gelişim göstermeyi sürdüren üniversitemiz 2013-2014 eğitim-öğretim yılını da başarılı bir şekilde geride bırakmıştır. Bu doğrultuda elinizdeki bu rapor bu yapı altında gerçekleştirdiğimiz faaliyetler hakkında genel bir fikir sağlayacak kapsamlı bir çalışmadır. Üniversitemizin kuruluş amacından yönetim yapısına, fiziki altyapıdan akademik ve idari birimlerine, sunulan hizmetlerden amaç ve hedeflere kadar birçok bilgiyi barındıran bu rapor, İstanbul 29 Mayıs Üniversitesi’nin beş yıl önce başladığı yolculuğuna sağlam adımlarla devam ettiğinin bir göstergesi niteliğindedir. Ve bu istikrarlı ilerleyişin bizde meydana getirdiği itici güç ile birlikte, yapımı devam eden ve akademik çalışmalara ve öğrenim için her türlü donanıma sahip yeni kampüs alanımızı mümkün olan en kısa sürede faaliyete geçirerek, şu an aktif olan üç fakülte, bir enstitü, bir yüksekokulu ve üç araştırma merkezimizleöğretim ve araştırma niteliğimizi en üst seviyeye çıkarmayı hedefliyoruz. Bu vesile ile her türlü önceliği ilme verdiğimiz bu yolda bizlerle birlikte olan Kurucu Vakfımız ile Mütevelli Heyetimize ve tüm akademik ve idari personelimiz ile öğrencilerimize teşekkürü bir borç bilirim. MİSYON VE VİZYON Misyon, Vizyon ve İlkeler Üniversitemiz, geçmişi ve bugünü bilimsel bakışla analiz edip sağlıklı biçimde anlamayı ve ulaştığı sonuçları insanlıkla paylaşmayı esas alarak, bilgi üretimi, nitelikli yükseköğretim, özellikle araştırmacı ve akademisyen yetiştirme konularında örnek ve önde gelen üniversitelerden biri olmayı hedefler. Ülkemiz başta olmak üzere Türk Cumhuriyetleri, Kafkas ve Balkan ülkelerinin özellikle maddi imkansızlık nedeniyle yüksek tahsil şansını yakalamakta zorlanan zeki ve başarılı gençlerine iyi bir üniversitede öğrenim görerek ülkelerine nitelikli hizmet sunmaları için fırsat vermeyi tarihi bir sorumluluk olarak görür. Benimsediği ilkelerin başında şunlar yer alır: - Katılımcılık - Eleştirel düşünce - Doğrunun, güzelin ve iyinin keşfi - İnançlara ve etik değerlere saygı - Disiplinler arası yaklaşım - Yeniliklere açıklık - Özgürlük-sorumluluk - Çevre bilinci B. YETKİ, GÖREV VE SORUMLULUKLAR Üniversitemiz 24.04.2010 tarih ve 27561 sayılı Resmi Gazetede yayımlanan 15 Nisan 2010 tarih ve 5981 sayılı kanunla kurularak kamu tüzel kişiliği kazanmıştır. Kurucu vakıf, Türkiye Diyanet Vakfı’dır. 3 Mart 1975 tarihinde kurulan Türkiye Diyanet Vakfı (TDV), kuruluşundan itibaren eğitim öğretimi ve ilmî araştırmayı destekleyerek 220.000’i aşkın ortaöğretim ve yükseköğretim öğrencisine burs veren, ülkemizin farklı şehirlerinde 10 adet yükseköğretim öğrenci yurdunu gençlerimizin hizmetine sunan, eğitim öğretim desteğini başta Orta Asya, Kafkasya ve Balkanlarolmak üzere dost ve akraba topluluklara da ulaştıran TDV’nın bilimsel faaliyetler alanında destek verdiği en önemli proje İslâm Araştırmaları Merkezi’dir (İSAM). 4 TDV tarafından 1988’de kurulan İSAM, ülkemizde İslâm dini ve medeniyeti ile Türk tarihi, kültürü ve edebiyatı başta olmak üzere sosyal bilimlerin çeşitli alanlarında uluslararası standartlarda faaliyet gösteren en büyük ve en tanınmış araştırma merkezidir. İSAM’ın bilimsel çalışmaları üç ana başlık altında toplanmaktadır: a) Bilimsel Araştırma ve Akademisyen Yetiştirme b) Ansiklopedi Projeleri c) Kütüphane ve Dokümantasyon Temel hedeflerinden biri uluslararası düzeyde donanıma sahip bilim adamları yetiştirmek ve bilimsel araştırmalar yapmak olan İSAM, ilgi alanında Türkiye’deki akademik yayıncılığın önemli merkezlerinden biri haline gelmiştir. İSAM’ın ansiklopedi projelerinin en büyüğü olan TDV İslâm Ansiklopedisi (DİA) sadece Türkiye’nin değil İslâm dünyasının da sahasındaki ilk telif eseri olup, bilim dünyasında çığır açmış bir çalışmadır. Araştırma ve yayın konusunda engin bir tecrübeye sahip olan İSAM, İstanbul 29 Mayıs Üniversitesi’nin kuruluşunda önemli bir paya sahiptir ve halen başta zengin kütüphanesi olmak üzere sahip olduğu bilimsel ve kültürel potansiyeli üniversitemizle paylaşmakta ve üniversitemize personel desteği vermektedir. My research sought to better understand these issues and the lived experience and human condition of the Syrian Diaspora. In my research, I thought through this main question: How do Syrian newcomers come to make sense of what it means to have lost a home and a homeland as it relates to the Syrian Diasporic experience? I broached the Syrian diasporic subject by thinking through an anti-Orientalist, anti- colonial framework, and I engaged autoethnography as a research methodology and as a method as I reflexively thought through and wrote from my own personal experience as a Syrian immigrant so that I could better understand the Syrian refugee’s human experience.

    SUMMARY Summary Syrian Arab Republic (hereinafter called “Syria”) is divided into four regions: the western region that consists of coastal plains and mountains along the Mediterranean, the northern region that encompasses granaries irrigated by the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, the eastern desert region bordered by Iraq, and the southern region that primarily comprised of the Golan Heights. Aleppo City, where the target facilities of this project are situated, is the second largest city in Syria and located between the Mediterranean coastal area and the granaries 160 kilometers northeast of Latakia, a coastal city along the Mediterranean. The basic health indices of Syria are relatively better than those of surrounding countries. The under-five death rate is 32 per 1,000 births (cf. the Middle East/ Northern African average is 66 per 1,000 births), the infant death rate is 26 per 1,000 births (cf. the Middle East/Northern African average is 51 per 1,000), the average life expectancy is 69 years (cf. the Middle East/ Northern African average is 66). Major causes of death include cardiovascular diseases, accidents, and congenital defects. The morbidity rates of infectious diseases that are characteristics of developing countries are also lower than the average. However, the country’s population is growing at a high rate of 2.7%. It is necessary to upgrade the health/medical and emergency care service systems to accommodate the growing population. Outlined below are basic policies of the 8th five-year plan (1996-2000) for the Syrian health/medical sector. The 9th five-year plan (2001-2005) is currently under development and said to follow mostly the previous plan’s policies, which aim to: ① Enhance the quality and quantity of medical services.

The University of Aleppo, which was established in 1958, is the second largest university in Syria with approximately 2400 faculty members in 25 schools and colleges including 2 higher institutes enrolling over 61,000 undergraduate and over 1,500 graduate students.
