MG Owners' Club Newsletter January 2020 A New Year

As 2020 begins we have much to look forward to in the year ahead. December saw us at the Chichester Yacht Club for our Christmas dinner, and what a great evening we had. Our thanks to Tony Gunton and his team for all the work and effort that went into the planning and running of the event. We also had our “Chat and Pint” meeting at the Fox & Hounds, which was a great success, and then we welcomed in the new year with our New Year’s Day run.

January will see us start our meetings at the Fox & Hounds in , of which there will be two this month, firstly for Speaker Night on 7th January, and then for our events planning meeting on 15th January. My apologies for not making it clear in our December newsletter that we have two meetings this month. Please see our events listing in this newsletter for clarification. I hope you enjoy this newsletter. Improvements will be made to the monthly newsletter format as we progress through 2020. Thanks

Andy Harris

Review of our December events

Club night Christmas dinner and meeting –

A great night was had by all. My thanks to all who made the night work behind the scenes, and all who came along to support us and make great memories.

______Greetings from Fred in Germany

Many will remember Fred Fruth who has been a close friend of Chichester MGOC for many years, from his days working at Rolls Royce. Fred came to our Christmas meeting in 2018 and has sent us greetings for Christmas.

______

Guest speakers for club nights in 2020 Each year we invite guest speakers whom we feel members will enjoy hearing at our club night. For 2020 we have arranged the following speakers.

January 7th - David Burden “A Diver on the Mary Rose” – Join us for a fascinating evening when David, who was 'Chief Diver' on the salvage team during the archaeological excavation, in the year King Henry VIII's warship was lifted, will reveal stories from his 5 years of experience as a diver on this historical project.

______

February 4th – Miles Wilkins: Miles is one of the UK's experts on Lotus cars. He has worked on and restored many different models. Miles has a fascinating life story and we look forward to a great evening in his company.

______

March 3rd – Bruce Minchin: Bruce is a well-known member of our club, and has spent a lifetime in the motor trade, currently running ‘Minchins of Goodwood’. MG cars have always been close to his heart, and form much of the inventory he sells to his customers. We look forward to a lively chat about the value of MGs and the current classic car market.

______

Club cards – I have often been asked if we have a club information card which members could hand out to fellow MG enthusiasts, providing information about our club; where we meet and how to get in touch etc. Now we have!

My thanks to Simon and others for getting this organised.

The back of each card is blank, providing you with space where you could write your name, or where you met them etc, to act as a prompt when they look at the card a week later and wonder, ‘where did I get this from?’.

Please obtain your supply of these cards from either Simon or Andy..

______

Club subscriptions & voluntary donations

These are needed to finance the club and are always welcome (at a guide of £10 per person per annum).

We do not wish to formalise donations/subscriptions and ask that you make your contributions on a voluntary basis without the need for invoices and notices.

Payments

Payments are welcome anytime by standing order or bank transfer paid into our Santander

‘Chichester MGOC Regalia Account’; A/C 22353988; Sort Code 09-01-29.

Payments are also welcome by cash or cheque paid into the ‘Voluntary Subscription Pot’ on Club Nights or given to Andy or Colin at any time. ______
