Friday 7th February

A Note from the Executive Head Teachers

Dear Parents/Carers,

This week has been RE week in each of our schools. In key stage 2 children have been exploring why some religions decide to fast…

In key stage 1 children have been finding out about Judaism.…

During the week, the children have learnt about the story of Moses and the festival Sukkot, where they made their own Sukkah models which involved collecting leaves, twigs and moss from our wonderful outdoor area. They also enjoyed making Challah bread to celebrate Shabbat

Blue Peter badges at

Children in Class 2 at Grassington got a welcome surprise through the post last week. Each child in Class 2 received a Blue Peter badge because of their campaign work around climate change. After reading ‘This Morning I Met a

Whale’ by Michael Morpurgo, the children decided to focus on the effects of pollution in our oceans on wildlife and wrote persuasive letters and designed posters. We are really proud of the effort the children put in to this worthy cause and appreciate that this was recognised by Blue Peter. Well done Class 2!

Race for Life

As part of their persuasive writing unit, Class 2 decided to write a letter to Mrs Besharati to persuade her to let us organise a Race for Life in aid of Cancer Research UK. After completing their research they had lots of facts to present to her along with persuasive techniques. The letters were successful and the event was organised. Class 1 ran a full mile in less than 10 minutes, whilst classes 2 & 3 ran at least 2 miles, some completing many more laps than required. The team work was unbelievable and so many children stayed outside, battling the horrible weather to cheer their peers on. The money has started rolling in already and we look forward to finding out the grand total at the end of half term.

"We thought it was really fun and would love to do it again but in summer as it was very wet!" Nicole & Niamh Year 4 "It was life saving!" Mabel Year 4 "It was good! We had fun but it was tiring!" Charlie Year 6

Reminder – BIG Performance – Thursday 13th February, Grassington Town

Hall

Afternoon performance 2:00

For those parents who are NOT attending the afternoon performance, and your child uses the school bus or taxi, we will arrange for the transport to collect them from the town hall instead of the school. Your child/children will be supervised to the bus or taxi by a member of staff. If you would normally collect your child from school, then your child/children will need to be collected from the town hall. Please be aware that your child may arrive home slightly later than usual if you are not collecting them, however we will endeavour to keep disruption to a minimum

Evening Performance 6:00

We would like all children to arrive for the evening performance at 5:40 prompt. This allows children ample time to prepare for the performance. The performance should end at 7:00; please collect your child from the hall, each school will have a designated area from which staff will hand over the children to parents. Please inform school if you have arranged for someone else to collect your child.

After School club

If your child attends after school club at Grassington, please can you send them to school with a ‘packed tea.’ They do have a snack at the club, but will probably need something more substantial on this occasion. The children who attend afterschool provision, will be walked back to school by staff following the afternoon performance and staff will walk the children back up to the town hall in readiness for the evening performance.

Dress

We would like all children to wear their uniform for the performance. Please ensure your child wears a school jumper and not a hoodie. If your child is in

Y5/6 they need to wear shorts/trousers or leggings as they are performing a

dance. Girls will have time to change into skirt and tights/socks should they wish to for the rest of the performance.

PE kit clarification – Class 1

Please could all of Class 1 come to school on a Monday in their PE kits ready for

PE at Burnsall in the afternoon. On a Tuesday, the children may have an extra

PE session if the timetable allows. Please could they bring their PE kits in a bag on this day.

Class 2

Please could all of Class 2 come in their PE kit on a Tuesday. Please see additional note below regarding PE kit arrangements on a Wednesday.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Could we please ask that PE kit is returned to school with your child on a

Wednesday morning, in case they need their kit for other PE lessons which may be happening, for example Hedley Verity, from Wharfedale Rugby club has been doing tag rugby at Burnsall and will move to Grassington after half term therefore children will require their kit. If possible, a spare kit/outdoor clothing could be kept in school so that when children do outdoor learning they can get changed, to prevent uniform getting wet or dirty. School hoodies are for use in PE lessons only.
