It has been shown that the Lentibulariaceae genomes have been shaped by transposable elements expansion and loss, and multiple rounds of whole-genome duplications (WGD), making the family a platform for evolutionary and comparative genomics studies. To explore the evolution of Utricularia, we estimated the chromosome number and genome size, as well as sequenced the terrestrial bladderwort Utricularia reniformis (2n = 40, 1C = 317.1-Mpb). -

This listing emphasizes temperate families of the Northern Hemisphere and is meant as an overview with examples of Oregon native plants. It includes many exotic genera that are grown in Oregon as ornamentals plus other plants of interest worldwide. The genera that are Oregon natives are printed in a blue font. Genera that are exotics are shown in black, however genera in blue may also contain non-native species. Names separated by a slash are alternatives or else the nomenclature is in flux. Leaves numerous, alternate, mostly 0.5-2 cm long, commonly 3-parted at the base and then 1-3 times branched, ultimate segments less than 20, often unequal, slender, flat; margins with fine, nongreen bristles. Bladders 2-4 mm wide, borne on specialized leafless branches. Winter buds ovoid or ellipsoid, bristly. Floral Characteristics: Flowers mostly 2-4 in lax racemes; peduncle emergent, 6-20 cm long. C orolla yellow, irregular, the tube very short. Lower lip broad, slightly lobed, commonly 8-12 mm long, elevated at the base so that it blocks the throat of the tube; upper lip about half as long as the lower. The bladders of Utricularia minor are also borne on the leaves, whereas in U. intermedia they occur on specialized stems, distinct from the leaves. Range: C ircumboreal. It belongs to section Kamienskia and is very similar to U. peranomala, but differs in that its leaves are irregularly branched, its bract and bracteoles are not connate at the base, its corolla is white with a yellow dot on the palate of lower lip, and its spur is unequally 2-lobed at the apex. Abstract: Carnivorous aquatic plants, genus Utricularia (Lentibulariaceae), capture small aquatic organisms, such as rotifers, copepods, and cladocerans, by means of anatomical structures named bladders. The present study aimed to determine prey size and composition in U. gibba and U. inflata, which were collected from a small lake and an herbaceous wetland, respectively, located in Paria Peninsula (Sucre State, Venezuela). Water pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, and salinity were measured in situ at each sampling location, and water samples were collected to determine N-Kjeldahl, total-P, Na+, K+, Ca++, Mg++, and Cl-. Fifty bladders from each plant species were measured and their contents were analyzed. N-Kjeldahl and total-P values were similar in both sites, and were also similar to values reported for eutrophic ecosystems, although Na+, K+, Ca++, Mg++ con- centrations and in situ water parameter values were higher in the herbaceous wetland. Bladder content showed the following zooplankton groups: rotifers, cladocerans, copepods, annelids, rhizopodeans, and insects; and the following phytoplankton divisions: Bacillariophyta, Chlorophyta, Cyanophyta, and Euglenophyta. U. inflata presented smaller and fewer bladders, but higher abundance and total algal and animal morphospecies richness than U. -

A full description, diagnostic morphological characters, and detailed photographs of this new species including SEM microphotographs of seed and pollen are given. The new species belongs to the section Cardiophyllum of Pinguicula subgenus Isoloba. It resembles the P. crystallina and P. hirtiflora. It differs from the related species by its heterophyllous growth, leaf shape and peculiar seed coat sculpture. It grows on serpentine rocks at elevations between 100 and 200 m. Key words: Marmaris, Muğla, Pinguicula section Cardiophyllum, taxonomy Introduction Pinguicula Linnaeus (1753: 17) is the second most diverse and species-rich genus of the “carnivorous” family Lentibulariaceae, only rivaled by Utricularia Linnaeus (1753:18) (Steiger 1998, Legendre 2000, Conti & Peruzzi 2006). It comprises about 100 species (Degtjareva et al. 2006, Beck et al. 2008, Rodondi et al. 2010). It is one of the most widespread genera of carnivorous plants genera (Casper 1966, Givnish 1989), distributed in subarctic, tropical, Mediterranean and temperate areas of Eurasia, North America, Central America (from Mexico to the Caribbean Islands), South America (Andes from Colombia to Ecuador, Chile and Patagonia) and northernmost Africa (Zamora et al.
