China, the world's most populous country and second-largest country by land area covering approximately 9.6 million square kilometers. China had the largest and most complex economy in the world for most of the past two thousand years, during which it has seen cycles of prosperity and decline. Since the introduction of economic reforms in 1978, China has become one of the world's fastest- growing major economies. China's landscape is vast and diverse, ranging from forest steppes and the Gobi and Taklamakan deserts in the arid north to subtropical forests in the wetter south. The Himalaya, Karakoram, Pamir and Tian Shan mountain ranges separate China from South and Central Asia. The Yangtze and Yellow Rivers, the third- and sixth-longest in the world, run from the Tibetan Plateau to the densely populated eastern seaboard. China's coastline along the Pacific Ocean is 14,500 kilometres (9,000 mi) long, and is bounded by the Bohai, Yellow, East and South China Seas. WHY BEIJING? Beijing is the second largest Chinese city by urban population after Shanghai and is the nation's political, cultural, and educational center. It is home of the headquarters of most of China's largest state-owned companies, and is a major hub for the national highway, expressway, railway, and high-speed rail networks. The Beijing Capital International Airport is the second busiest in the world by passenger traffic. TRAVEL INFORMATION Beijing Capital International Airport Beijing Capital International Airport is situated in the Shunyi District of the city, about 25 km (about 15.5 miles) northeast of Tiananmen Square, and is China's busiest and most important international airport. It consists of three terminal buildings. The high standard of services and facilities have attracted 66 airlines to operate there. Currently, the airport has flight connections to some 88 domestic and 69 foreign cities. Beijing Capital Airport Express Train The 17-mile's (28-kilometer) Airport Express. This light rail line running from the T2 and T3 of Capital Airport just has two stations in Beijing's downtown area, respectively at Dongzhimen and Sanyuanqiao. It just takes around 30 minutes for passengers to travel between the airport and Dongzhimen by the Capital Airport Express Train, the highest speed of which could reach 110 kilometers/hour. Beijing Capital Airport Express Train Beijing Capital Airport Shuttle Bus There are 16 regular airport shuttle lines operating between Capital Airport and downtown Beijing. Most bus lines operate at an interval of 30 mins; but the bus also departs ahead of schedule once fully seated. Line 6 and Line 13 may have longer waiting times. Passengers can buy tickets for the shuttle at the airport or some ticket offices in the downtown area. Besides, there are 7 intercity lines running between the airport and nearby destinations like Tianjin and Qinhuangdao. Beijing is such a metropolis and in its urban peripheral, an increasing number of communities have emerged that are comprised of monotonous housing projects. However, after the basic residential living requirements are satisfied, many other problems (including lack of amenities, distance between home and workplace which is particularly concerned with long commute time, traffic congestion, and etc.) exist.

The current issue and full text archive of this journal is available on Emerald Insight at: https://www.emerald.com/insight/2632-0487.htm SRT fl 3,1 Research on digital ow control model of urban rail transit under the situation of epidemic 78 prevention and control Received 30 September 2020 Qi Sun, Fang Sun and Cai Liang Revised 26 October 2020 Accepted 26 October 2020 Beijing Rail Transit Road Network, Beijing, China, and Chao Yu and Yamin Zhang Beijing Jiaotong University, Beijing, China Abstract Purpose – Beijing rail transit can actively control the density of rail transit passenger flow, ensure travel facilities and provide a safe and comfortable riding atmosphere for rail transit passengers during the epidemic. The purpose of this paper is to efficiently monitor the flow of rail passengers, the first method is to regulate the flow of passengers by means of a coordinated connection between the stations of the railway line; the second method is to objectively distribute the inbound traffic quotas between stations to achieve the aim of accurate and reasonable control according to the actual number of people entering the station. Design/methodology/approach – This paper analyzes the rules of rail transit passenger flow and updates the passenger flow prediction model in time according to the characteristics of passenger flow during the epidemic to solve the above-mentioned problems. Big data system analysis restores and refines the time and space distribution of the finely expected passenger flow and the train service plan of each route. Get information on the passenger travel chain from arriving, boarding, transferring, getting off and leaving, as well as the full load rate of each train.

Tis is an open access article distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution License, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited. Operational planning in China is perhaps more important today than ever before owing to the ongoing expansion of urban rail in the country. As urban rail networks increase in size and complexity, new lines added to them signifcantly alter both their topologies and operational characteristics. Tus, appraisal of alternative lines from the perspective of operation while planning is crucial. In this study, a method to forecast demands for new lines and obviate the efects of their addition, in terms of overcrowding in urban rail networks, was developed based on smart card data from existing networks. Using the card data and forecasted demand, transfer demand and section load can be estimated through the route choice model, and hence the infuence of new lines on the operation of the network can be analyzed.

  • A Birder's Guide to the Great Wall
Birding Beijing A Birder’s Guide To The Great Wall Introduction Birders are well known the world over for shunning even the most impressive tourist attractions in favour of a few hours birding, especially if there are a few local specialities to be seen. However, unlike in many capital cities, Beijing offers the chance to record some special birds whilst simultaneously experiencing one of the most impressive tourist attractions in the world – The Great Wall (Chinese: 長城, pingyin: changcheng). One of the most frequent queries I receive here at Birding Beijing is whether it’s possible to combine a day’s birding with a visit to the Wall. So I thought it high time I produced this “Birder’s Guide To The Great Wall.” The first thing to say is that, whichever part you visit, the Great Wall is majestic and it’s entirely possible to forget about birding when walking along the ramparts enjoying the stunning views and trying to imagine the incredible effort that went in to building this monumental construction that stretches from China’s east coast in Liaoning, Hebei and Tianjin through Beijing, Inner Mongolia, Shanxi and Shaanxi to Ningxia and Gansu Provinces in the west. The first sections were completed around 200BC; if you are interested in the history of the Great Wall, there is a good piece here. Overview There are several sections of the Great Wall within easy reach of Beijing city. The advantages of these sites are that the travel time is relatively short and getting there is relatively easy. The disadvantages are that they are mostly restored sections, meaning they are not the most authentic, and they are busy.
