Hull History Centre: Papers of the Barnards Family of South Cave U DDBA Papers of the Barnards Family 1401-1945 of South Cave Historical background: The papers relate to the branch of the family headed by Leuyns Boldero Barnard who began building up a landed estate centred on South Cave in the mid-eighteenth century. His inherited ancestry can be traced back to William and Elizabeth Barnard in the late sixteenth century. Their son, William Barnard, became mayor of Hull and died in 1614. Of his seven sons, two of them also served time as mayor of Hull, including the sixth son, Henry Barnard (d.1661), through whose direct descendants Leuyns Boldero Barnard was eventually destined to succeed. Henry Barnard, married Frances Spurrier and together had a son and a daughter. His daughter, Frances, married William Thompson MP of Humbleton and his son, Edward Barnard, who lived at North Dalton, was recorder of Hull and Beverley from the early 1660s until 1686 when he died. He and his wife Margaret, who was also from the Thompson family, had at least seven children, the eldest of whom, Edward Barnard (d.1714), had five children some of whom died without issue and some had only female heirs. The second son, William Barnard (d.1718) married Mary Perrot, the daughter of a York alderman, but had no children. The third son, Henry Barnard (will at U DDBA/14/3), married Eleanor Lowther, but he also died, in 1769 at the age of 94, without issue. From the death of Henry Barnard in 1769 the family inheritance moved laterally.

Matters discussed included the progress of work at the site, logistical issues, the state of the planning application currently progressing through ERYC and the latest timeline for the project. Attendees expressed no concerns about the scheme. 5. Yorkshire Energy Park Representatives from Yorkshire Energy Park provided an update on the scheme. It was acknowledged that a number of agency responses to the scheme had yet to be received, but that these were forthcoming and could be expected soon. AM provided information on the projects progress through the planning process at ERYC, and outlined potential risks and mitigations. The representatives stated that marketing for the scheme was going well. 6. Better Business for All in the Humber PG detailed Better Business for All in the Humber and distributed a briefing document on the scheme.

Those in office were required to keep accounts relating to estate values, crops, produce, livestock, etc. Holderness was an administrative division in the East Riding of Yorkshire overseen by a Sheriff and with numerous reeves acting for smaller divisions of the larger administrative division. Custodial history: Donated by Barbara English and compiled by her during the course of her research into medieval Holderness and Hull on 8 Jun 1977 [U DX129/1-7] and Mar 1990 [U DX129/8] Description: Papers include: Photocopies of accounts compiled by Remigius de Pocklington, 1261-1263, and Richard de Halstead, 1266-1267, whilst serving as Sheriff of Holderness; Photocopies of accounts compiled by persons serving as reeve of various manors within the administrative area of 13th century Holderness [references to Burstwick, Preston, Paull Fleet, Paull Ferry, Little Humber, Kilnsea, Withernsea, Ravenser Odd, Keyingham, Skeffling, Lelley Dikes, Pocklington, Lamwath, Coney Warren, Burton Pidsea, Cleeton, Easington, Skipsea]; Publicity file relating to Hull Citadel compiled in 1989. As a consequence of suggestions which had arisen in the course of the review of their internal parish boundaries, the Boothferry Borough Council, in the non-metropolitan county of Humberside, asked us to carry out a review of parts of their district's boundaries with the District of Beverley (also in Humberside) and with the District of Selby (in the non-metropolitan county of North Yorkshire). The Borough Council sought the following changes: (i) the transfer to the parish of Broomfleet in Boothferry of part of the parish of South Cave in Beverley district: (ii) the transfer of part of the parish of Pollington in Boothferry to the parish of Balne in Selby division. 2. Having obtained the views of all the interested local authorities we considered the Council's requests, as required by Section 48(4) of the Local Government Act 1972. In doing so, we had regard to the guidelines contained.in the Department of the Environment Circular 33/78 and to our own Report No. 287. 3. We noted that the changes were miner, involved very small areas of land and affected a total of two residents. We also noted that with the exception of Humberside County Council, who wished to see no change, the changes were supported by all the local authorities involved.
