  • LEICA X1 As Spontaneous As Life Itself
LEICA X1 As spontaneous as life itself. CONTENTS HAVANA SNAPSHOTS 04 LEICA X1 10 TECHNICAL DATA 18 HAVANA SNAPSHOTS The Malecón in Havana directly at the port entrance, close to the shooting sets. LEICA X1 The ideal travel companion for capturing extraordinary moments. The sounds of reggaetón music echo through the narrow streets. Classic cars, long out of production but lovingly polished, sparkle under the merciless sun. On almost every building, pieces of plaster crumble from the façade. A few make one wonder if they’ll survive the next gust of wind. In some places, it seems as if the decrepit colonial-era buildings are holding each other up. Men sit in the shade, passing the time playing dominoes. A little farther up the street, musicians play salsa and a young couple dances. A man pushes a wheelbarrow fi lled with limes, rolling lazily past a group of women on the side of the street who tell each other stories that are probably as old as the women themselves. These are the fi rst impressions that Thomas Stefan gathers as he ambles through Havana’s languorous old city with his Leica X1. Thomas is a photographer’s assistant and is part of a crew of 40 who have come to the Cuban capital for a fashion shoot. The route from his hotel to the shooting set at the Malecón, Havana’s famous waterfront pro- menade, takes him through the Centro Habana. This is the fascinatingly dilapidated district that gives Havana its unmistakable charm. The tumbledown grandeur of the baroque and neoclassical monuments gives Thomas a fl eeting insight into the bygone prosperity of the city.

Our factory is dedicated to designing and constructing cameras and lenses of the highest quality and uncompromising performance for people just like you. Leica cameras and lenses are exquisite tools that let you experience a unique view of life – tools that ensure the photographer’s complete creative freedom. At the same time, they maximize the potential for realizing your most cherished visual concepts in the form of perfect pictures – images that capture and possess the power to express the otherwise hidden or unnoticed facets of life. The Leica M stands for precisely this special genre of photography as no other camera can. Since our introduction of the combined viewfinder/rangefinder principle in 1954, countless photojournalists and photographic artists have reshaped and redefined our views of the world with their responsive, silent, and discreet Leica M cameras. This is because rangefinder cameras are ideal for capturing vital and authentic images taken from real life, a fact that holds true to the present day. With their intense concentration solely on essential functions and timelessly purist design, the Leica M7 and MP cameras carry forth the noble heritage of their predecessors. What is more, they represent the crowning glory of classical Leica M photography.

ATLANTIS Journal of the Spanish Association of Anglo-American Studies 42.2 (December 2020): 72-98 e-issn 1989-6840 DOI: http://doi.org/10.28914/Atlantis-2020-42.2.04 © The Author(s) Content is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution NonCommercial ShareAlike 4.0 International Licence Noun Compounds in Photography Iryna Mykytka Universidad Católica de Murcia [email protected] Compounding is considered to be the most productive device in coining new words in many languages, including English. Numerous studies have dealt with compounds in recent decades. However, in spite of a large number of works on compounds in the general language, few authors have dealt with compounds in specialized languages. We find studies on compounds in science and technology or architecture, just to mention a few. The present article focuses on compound nouns in photography, a field that has to date not been researched in this regard but is extremely rich and interesting. The aim of this study is to outline the types of noun compounds in photography and to illustrate the range of semantic relationships and morphosyntactic patterns that occur in coining new noun compounds in the photography lexis. In order to carry out the study, a corpus-based approach was followed. The data was gathered from professional photography blogs providing authentic up-to- date lexis. The results show that there is a large presence and variety of patterns of noun compounds in photography, such as noun compounds made up of noun + noun (photo album, time-lapse, shutter speed), verb + noun (catchlight, burn tool, protect filter), adjective + noun (white balance, softbox, glowing filter) and phrase compounds (depth of focus, rule of thirds, pan and tilt).
