Kersten and Hans-Gerd Maas Institute of Geodesy and Photogrammetry, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology ETH-Hoenggerberg, CH-8093 Zurich, Switzerland Phone: +41 1 633 3287, Fax: +41 1 633 1101, e-mail: [email protected] Phone: +41 1 633 3058, Fax: +41 1 633 1101, e-mail: [email protected] ISPRS Commission I, Working Group 3 KEY WORDS: close-range photogrammetry, high resolution, still video ABSTRACT In this paper a digital high resolution still video camera DCS200 and a conventional film-based small format camera Leica R5 are compared. The image data used for the comparison were acquired during several pilot projects in a shipyard. The goal was the determination of 3-D co-ordinates of object points, which were signalised with retro- reflective targets, for dimensional checking and control in the ship building industry, as well as to test the suitability of the cameras for these applications. The image point measurements in the photos taken by the film-based camera were performed on an analytical plotter, while the digital image data were processed semi-automatically with digital photogrammetric methods. In addition, some of the analogue images were scanned and then also processed with digital photogrammetric methods. The results of simultaneous camera calibrations and 3-D point positioning are given, showing its accuracy potential, which turned out to be in the range of 1: 50,000 and 1: 75,000 for the DCS200 and up to 1: 27,000 for the Leica.

Press information Leica presents the TL-System: The new camera system impresses with perfected features, unique design, precise, high-performance lenses and a range of functional accessories and technical equipment. Wetzlar, 8 November 2016. Building on the Leica T camera system, which has been continually advanced in terms speed, ease of handling and flexibility since its launch in 2014, the Leica TL embraces all the perfected features and leads the innovative camera concept into a new generation with even more innovations and new aspects of its design. One of these innovations is the doubling of the size of its internal buffer memory to 32 GB. Other new features are improved autofocus, especially in AF-C mode, and optimised compatibility with lenses from other Leica camera systems. For instance, the Leica TL now supports SL-Lenses with OIS and allows the use of Leica R-System lenses in combination with the R-Adapter L. A new Leica TL app with revised functions offers additional options for sharing pictures by email or on social networks and is now available for the first time for Android as well as iOS devices. The Leica TL will in available in three colour options from the date of launch: the silver and black versions are identical in design and construction, while the titanium-coloured option is distinguished by a bevelled edge (chamfer) to the top and bottom plates. Functional camera accessories, such as the new high-quality protectors in Nappa leather, which can stay on the camera when changing the battery, and colour-coordinated carrying straps in stone-grey, black, red and cemento, round off the TL system portfolio.

Press Information photokina 2018: Visitors to the Leica Camera stand in Hall 2.2 can look forward to a discovering a comprehensive portfolio of products and services Wetzlar, 6 September 2018. The focus of Leica’s appearance at photokina 2018 in Cologne is not only set on the extremely diverse product portfolio of the traditional manufacturer from Wetzlar, but also on the Leitz Park itself. At Leica, everything has always revolved around the picture, the school of visualisation, the history of photography, the vibrancy of photographic culture and the people behind the cameras – in other words, DAS WESENTLICHE. Since the opening of the Leitz Park complex on 15 June 2018, all this is now a visible and tangible experience. In the open-plan, newly conceived Leica stand in Hall 2.2, visitors can find information and comprehensive advice about the broad spectrum of Leica products and services for all photographic applications and scenarios. The demonstration area has now been split into thematic areas to provide easier orientation for professionals, amateurs and other visitors interested in particular Leica products or services. While the ‘Professional’ area concentrates on the Leica S and its lenses and products from Sinar Photography, the ‘Systems’ area focuses on the Leica SL, the Leica M and the APS-C cameras of the Leica CL and Leica TL systems – and, of course, the full range of corresponding Leica precision lenses. The ‘Compact’ area is dedicated to the Leica Q, Leica D-Lux, Leica V-Lux, Leica X-U and Leica C-Lux cameras and the Leica Sofort instant picture camera.

  • Press Information
Press information Free for release after: 28 April 2016, 3 p.m. (CET) LEICA M-D – the new digital Leica rangefinder without a monitor screen Wetzlar, 28 April 2016. With the Leica M-D (Typ 262), Leica Camera AG adds a further model to the Leica rangefinder system. Together with the Leica M and M-P (Typ 240), the Leica M (Typ 262) and the Leica M Monochrome (Typ 246), this increases the number of digital M-Generation cameras to five. The Leica M-D is the first serial production model of the digital M family to be made without a monitor screen. The usual location of the screen on the back of the camera is now taken by the ISO sensitivity setting dial – one of the few, but essential, features of the camera. Although the Leica M-D embodies the entire range of technical advantages perfected over decades in the Leica rangefinder system, it intentionally omits all but the most essential technical features. Radically reduced to the most important parameters required for photography – shutter speed, aperture, distance and ISO sensitivity – it promotes its users’ concentration on what is essential: the picture. To a large extent, the technical features of the Leica M-D are based on those of the Leica M (Typ 262). Just like all other digital M-Cameras, the Leica M-D (Typ 262) features a high- resolution CMOS full-frame sensor, albeit one that is dedicated exclusively to rangefinder photography, and supports neither video recording nor Live View. Its 24-megapixel resolution ensures exceptional imaging quality and extreme sensitivity to light.

  • LEICA X1 As Spontaneous As Life Itself
LEICA X1 As spontaneous as life itself. CONTENTS HAVANA SNAPSHOTS 04 LEICA X1 10 TECHNICAL DATA 18 HAVANA SNAPSHOTS The Malecón in Havana directly at the port entrance, close to the shooting sets. LEICA X1 The ideal travel companion for capturing extraordinary moments. The sounds of reggaetón music echo through the narrow streets. Classic cars, long out of production but lovingly polished, sparkle under the merciless sun. On almost every building, pieces of plaster crumble from the façade. A few make one wonder if they’ll survive the next gust of wind. In some places, it seems as if the decrepit colonial-era buildings are holding each other up. Men sit in the shade, passing the time playing dominoes. A little farther up the street, musicians play salsa and a young couple dances. A man pushes a wheelbarrow fi lled with limes, rolling lazily past a group of women on the side of the street who tell each other stories that are probably as old as the women themselves. These are the fi rst impressions that Thomas Stefan gathers as he ambles through Havana’s languorous old city with his Leica X1. Thomas is a photographer’s assistant and is part of a crew of 40 who have come to the Cuban capital for a fashion shoot. The route from his hotel to the shooting set at the Malecón, Havana’s famous waterfront pro- menade, takes him through the Centro Habana. This is the fascinatingly dilapidated district that gives Havana its unmistakable charm. The tumbledown grandeur of the baroque and neoclassical monuments gives Thomas a fl eeting insight into the bygone prosperity of the city.

They represent a very individual style of photography – they have the power to strike a chord, fascinate and surprise. In 1925 the Leitz company defined the 24 x 36 mm mini- ature format with the camera developed by Oskar Barnack. Since then, reportage photographers have used their discreet and fast Leica M cameras to shape our view of the world. “24 x 36” is the title of an ex- hibition of current work by M photographers. This brochure includes some of the images, representing outstanding examples of how Leica cameras can be used to develop a conscious vision and design, to highlight intensive involvement in a theme and to convey personal messages from the heart of everyday life. The photo galleries on the Internet show you how photography is de- veloping right now with the new digital LEICA M8.

Wetzlar, 8 February 2017. Like no other camera, the Leica M stands for a special kind of photography – discreet, close to the action and concentrated on essentials. In addition to the existing sets with Leica M (Typ 262) and M7 cameras, Leica now presents a new range of attractive sets featuring the Leica M (Typ 240), M-P (Typ 240) and the M Monochrom (Typ 246) models that offer customers numerous options for discovering and experiencing the fascination of Leica M-Photography. New to the product portfolio is a special offer that enables customers to create their own, personal M-System from a multitude of different camera models and lenses combined in attractive sets. Customers can choose from the following camera models: the Leica M (Typ 240), featuring a high-resolution, full-frame CMOS sensor, Live View and full-HD video, the Leica M-P (Typ 240) with a sapphire glass monitor cover, frame selector and 2GB buffer memory and the Leica M Monochrom (Typ 246) with a black-and-white sensor.
