Bilan United Kingdom - 2002 Bilan United Kingdom - 2002 10/2/21 7:48:30 PM Tel: +33 (0)1 47 53 95 80 / Fax +33 (0)1 47 05 96 55 / www.unifrance.org SIRET 784359069 00043 / NAF 8421Z / TVA FR 03784359069 1998 saw a decline of 20% in the number of French films broadcast compared with the previous year, although this number remained stable on the terrestrial channels. Out of a total of 15,000 movie broadcasts on the 8 major British channels, 2% were French films, with France constituting the number 2 source of foreign films, behind the United States (68%), but ahead of Germany (1.5%) and Italy (1.1%). Once again, Channel 4 was the leading broadcaster of French films. 30 titles were included in this channel's line-up, showing nevertheless a decrease of 16 titles compared with 1997. These films were generally aired on Sunday nights, around midnight. This was the case for Jacquot de Nantes, la Lectrice, and for Nikita, which attracted the highest audiences of any French-language film on this channel. More French films were programmed on Channel 4 than on BBC 1 and BBC 2 combined. BBC 2 broadcast 16 French titles in 1998, 4 less than in 1997. These films were nonetheless more recent than those aired on Channel 4, including titles such as les Apprentis, Elisa and even Léon. Close to 4% of all movies programmed on this channel were French. BBC 1 restricted its programming to 6 English-language coproductions this year. Sitting in between these 2 large broadcasting groups was CLT's Channel 5, a small but thriving channel, which presented 12 French titles in 1998, 9 more than the previous year. It should be noted that these were all catalogue films, such as la Cage aux folles 2, Providence and Autour de minuit. Among the total of 2,600 films broadcast in Britain, 2.6% were French titles. Of the 12,000 films aired on the 3 Sky movie channels, French fare took out 1.9% of film slots. • François Cluzet in 11.6
Pan-Européenne Presents In Association with Wild Bunch François Cluzet in 11.6 A film by Philippe Godeau Starring Bouli Lanners and Corinne Masiero Written by Agnès de Sacy and Philippe Godeau Loosely based on Alice Géraud "Toni 11.6 Histoire du convoyeur" 1h42 - Dolby SRD - Scope - Visa n°133.508 High definition pictures and press kit can be downloaded from www.wildbunch.biz SYNOPSIS Toni Musulin. Security guard. Porsche owner. Loner. Enigma. An ordinary man seeking revenge for humiliation at the hands of his bosses. A man with a slow-burning hatred of the system. And the man behind "the heist of the century". Q&A with Philippe Godeau After ONE FOR THE ROAD, how did you decide to make a film about this one-of-a-kind €11.6 million heist? From the very beginning, what mattered to me wasn't so much the heist as the story of that man who'd been an armoured car guard for ten years with no police record, and who one day decided to take action. How come this punctual, hard- working, seemingly perfect, lonely employee, who kept his distance from unions, ended up pulling off the heist of the century and went to the other side? With the screenwriter Agnès de Sacy, this was our driving force. What was it that drove him to take action? We did a lot of research, we visited the premises, and we met some of his co-workers, some of his acquaintances, his lawyers… What about the real Toni Musulin? Did you actually meet him? I didn't.

The U.S. remained the number 1 source of films (57%), ahead of Germany, whose market share nevertheless picked up by 0.7%. The number of French films programmed on the public broadcasters ceased to decline this year, and even increased on several regional channels. ZDF remained the leading broadcaster of French films. This channel ramped up its share of movie programming devoted to French fare, running at 15%, against 13% in 1997. It successfully reran l’Ange noir, and presented le Garçu and Toxic affaire, as well as a number of classics such as les Seins de glace, Don Camillo Monseigneur and la Guerre des polices. Since 1995, the number of films shown on ARD had dwindled. It stabilized in 1998 at 67 titles, with a host of recent titles including Élisa, la Fleur de mon secret, L. 627 and les Apprentis. Regional public channels saw an uptrend: up 6 titles on Bayern 3, up 10 on West 3 and up 19 on B1 in Berlin. Among the commercial channels, TM 3 outstripped Vox in the number of French titles scheduled: it programmed 78, 13 more than in 1997. This channel (owned by the TeleMûnchen Group) broadcast essentially catalogue films, and devoted 28% of film slots to French fare, an all-time high in Germany.
