We summarize the records of three genera and six species that have been newly reported in Korea, discovered through the avian monitoring programs carried out by The National Institute of Biological Resources from 2013 to 2016. These six newly recorded species are; Ring-necked Duck (Aythya collaris), Lesser Scaup (Aythya affinis), Bufflehead (Bucephala albeola), Black- winged Kite (Elanus caeruleus), Mongolian Lark (Melanocorypha mongolica) and Crested Myna (Acridotheres cristatellus). Checklist of the Mallophaga of North America (north of Mexico), which reflects the taxonomic studies published since that date. Host criteria for the birds has been expanded to include consideration of all species listed in The A. 0. U. Check- list of North American Birds, Fifth Edition (1957)~A few species of birds definitely known to be extinct are omitted for the listings of probable hosts, even though new species may still be found on museum skins. Mammal hosts considered remain those Irecorded in Miller and Kellogg, List of North American Recent Mammals (1955), as being found north of Mexico. If the present volume of taxonomic studies of Mallophaga continues, another revision will be necessary in a few years. Much remains to be done on the taxonomy of several genera and host groups, especially the forms found on the Passeriformes . Animal Biodiversity and Conservation, 38.1: 121–127, Doi: https://doi.org/10.32800/abc.2015.38.0121 Abstract A survey of recent introduction events, spread and mitigation efforts of mynas (Acridotheres sp.) in Spain and Portugal.— The common myna Acridotheres tristis is listed among the world’s 100 worst invasive alien species. We combined previous records with a field survey to update the extent and fate of myna introductions in Spain and Portugal. Results suggest that there have been at least 22 independent accidental introductions of three myna species throughout the Iberian peninsula and three archipelagos since the early 1990s. While bank mynas (A. ginginianus) did not become established elsewhere, common mynas reached breeding populations on four islands. Eradication efforts allowed the extirpation of these breeding island populations, but common mynas continue to breed in the Tagus Estuary (continental Portugal). In this region, there is also a breeding population of crested mynas (A. cristatellus), which was undergone an exponential population growth in the last decade. To avoid further accidental introductions, eradication campaigns should be combined with preventive actions aiming to stop the trade of these species in Europe. Ellie Dyer, 4th November 2015 2 Abstract Alien species are a major component of human-induced environmental change, yet spatial and temporal variation in the drivers of their introduction, and their subsequent distribution and richness, are poorly understood. Here, I present a global analysis of the drivers of this variation for a major animal group, birds (Class Aves), using the newly-created Global Avian Invasions Atlas (GAVIA) database. GAVIA includes information on introduction successes and failures, enabling me to examine the effect of colonisation pressure (the number of species introduced) on alien bird distributions. A description of the GAVIA database is given in Chapter 2, with details on its scope and sources, data collation and validation, and the production of alien range maps. Chapter 3 focuses on the early stages of the invasion pathway, and shows that historical introductions tend to originate in Europe, were driven by the global movements of British colonialism, and involved species deemed useful. Modern introductions, in contrast, tend to originate in Southeast Asia and Africa, are driven by factors associated with wealth, and involve species found in the pet trade. -
