Goth the Goth Interface CinematiC metal & industrial Virtual instrument ProduCt desCriPtion & manual GOTH is a virtual instrument created for use with Native Instruments Kontakt 5. It’s the first VI designed specifically for composers and producers who want to add modern Metal elements to films, movie trailers, television shows, promos, games, and other cinematic-style recording projects. THE GOTH INTERFACE The default front page of the GOTH Graphic User Interface (GUI) is very easy to use - if you don’t need to customize loop notes or rhythms, you can probably do everything you need to do from this page. The front-page controls include eight sliders, as follows: DISTORT adds distortion LOW-FI degrades audio quality LIMITER adds dynamics limiting & increases overall volume BASS adds low end TREBLE adds high end REVERB controls reverb amount FEEDBACK controls number of delay-repeats DELAY controls delay amount There are also two drop-down windows on the front page of the GUI: the upper one is for Reverb and the bottom one for Delay. Click in either window to open up a drop-down menu that allows you to choose one of ten different convolution reverbs, or ten different Delay pre-sets. Beneath the GOTH logo is the TUNE knob; use this to globally adjust the tuning of all loops in a given loop-player, or all samples in an instrument. Used on guitar and bass, this is an easy way to emulate the huge sound of modern Metal drop-tunings. In the lower left-hand corner of every loop-playing module is a tab marked, SLICE EDITOR. Click on this button to go to the Slice Editor page. PRODUCT CONTENT GOTH is organized into four sections: 1. MULTI-SAMPLED INSTRUMENTS GOTH features a collection of multi-sampled Metal-style guitars, including mono Lead Guitars, huge double-tracked Stereo Guitars, and double-tracked Power Chord Guitar patches that velocity-switch between short chugs (mutes) and sustained power chords. There is also a killer Metal Bass, several heavy Distortion Basses, Dark and Lo-Fi Acoustic Pianos, and a 49-piece (!) Monster Metal Drum Kit. See below for a complete list of all sampled instruments. 2. CONSTRUCTION KIT MULTIS GOTH features 20 extensive Performance Multi patches, each containing five Kontakt Loop-Players: one for guitar loops, one for bass loops, one for drum loops, one for Metal-style vocal effects and one for sound design elements such as drones, atmospheres, industrial rhythm loops, and cinematic impacts and risers. All guitar and bass loops were written and performed in the key of E, making it easy for users to mix and match loops from other Performance Kits, if desired. Using the TUNE button on the GOTH interface, you can also easily de-tune the guitar and bass loops to lower keys such as Eb, D, and C, which are commonly used in many modern style of Metal. All Construction Kit loops are color-coded for easy reference, as follows: LIGHT BLUE noise loops and one-shots ORANGE Metal-style vocal effects RED drum loops GREEN bass loops VIOLET guitar loops BLACK no loop or sample (empty) All the loop material has been organized so that it is easy for the user to find related guitar, bass, and drum loops that are intended to work together, as follows: • Each group of related drum, bass, and guitar loops is mapped in the same octave, starting from C1 and ending at C5… • Each instrument type is mapped to the same note or notes in each octave; for example, the drum loops are always mapped to C, the bass loops to D, and the guitar loops and one-shots to E, F, G, A and B… • All the sound design material is key-mapped to one of the lower octaves, starting from C0. By default, all five loop-players in each Multi are set to MIDI Channel 1. This allows users to quickly audition and record loops using a single track in their DAW, while also making it easy to change EQ, Tuning, and/orFX settings on each of the four loop-players in the Multi. Further customization of the loop content can be done using the SLICE EDITOR page, which can be accessed by the tab located in the lower righthand corner on the front page of each loop player. 3. COMPILATION LOOP KITS The Loop Kit patches include hundreds of additional Industrial Noise Loops, Guitar Noise Loops, Bass Noise Loops, and Piano Loops, in several different tempos. 4. ONE-SHOTS For ease of use, all the one-shot vocal FX, drones, atmospheres, and sound design ele- ments in GOTH are also organized by type in a number of additional instrument patches. THE SLICE EDITOR PAGE This page is used only for editing and customizing loops. Here, you can change the Volume, Pan position, or Tuning, or filtering of any slice in any loop. To edit a loop, use the drop down menu located above and to the left of the waveform to select it. The loop will now be visible as a waveform that has been divided into individual slices. Next, click on one of the function buttons (Volume, Pan, etc). To use filtering, select a Filter type from the drop-down menu located to the upper right of the waveform. By grabbing the top line of a slice, you can manipulate it up or down, with a correspond- ing increase or decrease in the value of the selected function (like Volume, for instance). Command + click (Mac) or or Alt + click (PC) to return any slice to its original position. CHUCK BURGI Drums & Percussion www.chuckburgi.com Chuck Burgi has been performing and recording internationally since teaming up with jazz- rock guitarist Al Di Meola for his first solo venture, theElegant Gypsy Tour. This opportunity led to his joining the English fusion group Brand-X. As a member of Brand-X, he replaced Phil Collins and recorded and toured for the classic album Masques. Returning to his rock and pop roots, Chuck joined Hall and Oates and recorded two platinum albums and did two world tours with the hit writing duo. Subsequent albums with Michael Bolton, Diana Ross, Balance and Bon Jovi followed. He next joined forces with Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow, recording two albums and hitting the road for another two world tours. After Rainbow, Chuck toured and recorded with various artists including Joe Lynn Turner, Glen Burtnick and the powerhouse vocalist Meat Loaf. Chuck toured extensively with Meat Loaf and recorded the Live at Wembley album. Directly after Meat Loaf, Chuck began working with Blue Oyster Cult, during which time he recorded the Cult Classics and Heaven Forbid albums, and began playing on national TV commercials. After Blue Oyster Cult, he was once again reunited with Ritchie Blackmore for sold out tours of Europe, South America and Japan for the album Stranger in Us All. In 2001, Chuck completed a three-year commitment to the Latin pop sensation Enrique Iglesias. Beginning with an extensive world tour for the album Vivir, he returned as musical director for the Cosas del Amour world tour and finished with a dense schedule of TV shows and concerts promoting Enrique’s first English album, Enrique.

My colleague and fellow scribe Tony Wilson had secured the precious black vinyl LP and dropped it onto the turntable, awaiting my reaction. We were immediately transfixed by the brash, bold sounds that fought their way out of the lo- fi speakers – Robert Plant’s screaming vocals, the eerie Hammond organ sounds of John Paul Jones, and Jimmy Page’s supreme guitar mastery. But amid the kaleidoscope of impressions, the drums were the primary element that set pulses racing. We marveled at the sheer audacity, the sense of authority, the spatial awareness present on every track. Within moments, John Bonham’s cataclysmic bass drum triplets and roaring snare rolls had signaled a new era of rock drumming. The first time I saw Bonham up close was in December 1968, at The Marquee Club on Soho’s Wardour Street. While The Marquee has long held a mythical status in the rich history of the London rock scene – hosting early appearances by such legendary bands as The Who and The Rolling Stones – it was actually a dark and rather cramped facility with a tiny stage that fronted an even stuffier dressing room.

PaistePAISTE NewsNEWS ForJANUARY Immediate 2021 Release - January 2018 Paiste Continues Signature Series Revival Nottwil, Switzerland – The renowned Swiss cymbal maker Paiste announces a new phase of Signature Series re-launches and new models. In 1989, Paiste launched the Signature Series, using a bronze alloy specifically created for cymbal sound. The sonic energy of “Signature Alloy” enabled Paiste to create cymbals with previously unknown qualities, featuring rich, full, and expressive sounds, ranging from delicate and sensitive to potent and powerful. Collectively, over the past three decades, Signature Cymbals have defined the sound of numerous legendary drummers and have been passionately received by the world-wide drumming community, gathering critical acclaim in the process. After the introduction of predominantly light models in course of the 30th Anniversary of the Signature Series in 2019, Paiste now relaunches classic cymbals for loud, powerful playing. Top drummers such as Danny Carey, John Dolmayan, Joey Jordison, Larry Mullen jr., Mikkey Dee, Nicko McBrain, Phil Rudd, Scott Travis, Stewart Copeland, Brad Wilk and Tico Torres made music history with these instruments. 19“ & 20“ Power Crash are assertive instruments for bright, full accents. 20“ & 22“ Power Ride pierce the loudest guitar walls with a solid, bright ping and strong bell sound. 14“ & 15“ Power Hi Hi-Hat complete the triumvirate of Signature Power models with their bright and cutting character. The 14“ Heavy Hi-Hat features power and brilliance as well, and features clear, full sound with a rich low-end. For the first time Paiste presents the 22” Mellow Ride - a larger version of the popular light ride cymbal.
