Trump brands Democrats as ‘anti-Jew’ party

AFP Washington

S President Donald Trump on Friday blasted Democrats Uas “anti-Israel” and “anti- Jewish” after they passed a con- gressional measure opposing hate speech in general instead of spe- cifically condemning alleged anti- Semitic comments by a Muslim con- gresswoman. His remarks follow days of tense de- bates in Congress addressing sensitive questions about national allegiance, discriminatory tropes aimed at Jews, and accusations of show votes that failed to call out a member for contro- versial comments. “I thought yesterday’s vote by the House was disgraceful,” Trump said at the White House. The resolution was originally in- tended to deliver a direct rebuke of anti-Semitism following comments by Muslim Democratic congresswoman, Ilhan Omar, that were deemed anti- Semitic and off ensive by many col- leagues. But after blowback from progres- sives, it was revised to broadly con- demn discrimination against Muslims and other minorities as well.
