Learning Support (LS) and English as an Additional Language (EAL) La Côte International School is an inclusive school and welcomes, on a case-by-case basis, children with identified learning difficulties when we feel we can offer them the support they need. Individual needs should be discussed in advance with the admissions team, the Principal, the Heads of School and the Learning Support Coordinators. Unfortunately, we have neither the resources nor the facilities to educate children with severe learning difficulties. In order to develop a tailored educational plan for the pupil concerned, it is essential that all additional needs are clear to the school prior to a student starting at La Côte International School. Failure to disclose relevant information can lead to a delay in providing suitable support for the child and can compromise the effectiveness of the class as a whole. In extreme cases, this could lead to the cancellation of enrolment. If the school’s Learning Support team determines that a child requires LS or EAL support, two (2) sessions per week will be provided free of charge. Any additional LS or EAL sessions will be provided on the condition that the additional costs are met by parents or their fee sponsor. The school reserves the right to terminate the enrolment of a child where the required additional financial support needed cannot be provided, or the needs change significantly after the child has joined the school. Counselling Services School counsellors are available to support students in the Primary and Secondary school. A process of referral is in place and three (3) sessions per referral will be provided free of charge as recommended by the school’s Counselling Services.

Golay, rapporteur 2019 Acknowledgement Undertaking and finishing this PhD would not have been possible without the support and guidance I received from colleagues, friends and family. Firstly, I am deeply grateful to Prof. Dr. Philippe Thalmann (thesis director) for his professional support throughout the doctoral thesis, and for giving me the opportunity to do this work. I am deeply grateful to Professor Irmi Seidl, my supervisor at WSL. She guided me and encouraged me to carry on throughout and significantly contributed to this thesis. Her input and patience has been invaluable and enabled me to navigate some of the more emotionally challenging aspects of this project. I am also extremely grateful to my supervisor Dr. Tobias Schulz for his insightful comments and encouragement. His guidance helped me in all the time of research and writing of this thesis. I would like to thank the rest of my thesis committee: Prof. Felix Kienast and Prof. Françoise Golay for their astute input. I would also like to thank the countless experts and colleagues who have offered guidance, feedback, suggestions and support along the way.
