Its very simple - you have to love what you do. I remember in my early days as a trainee print sales man, I would have discussions with my Sales Manager about the 80 or so cold calls I had made in that day. He would tell me that I needed to smile on the phone! At first I thought he was crazy. What did it matter if I was not smiling on a phone call? The person on the other end cannot tell either way, right? Wrong! Within ten seconds of starting a sales call, a prospect would be able to tell if they are talking to beauty or the beast. I learned that smiling actually helped with the tone of my voice, and it is one way of positively affecting its inflection. Without smiling you can sound monotone and therefore come across as boring, or worse uninterested in the sales call you initiated. The reason is not psychological but rather physiological. When you smile, the soft palate at the back of your mouth raises and makes the sound waves more fluid. Smiling helps your voice sound friendly, warm, and receptive. I began to have a cavalier approach to sales calls. I never worried about not closing the deal, I started to have fun with the calls….. And do you know what? It got results. The more fun I had, the more deals I would close and I thought less of the calls that never went anywhere at all. -

Abstract We present a graphics application programming assignment from an introductory programming course with a computer graph- ics focus. This assignment involves simple image-processing, asking students to write a conversion program that turns images into ASCII Art. Ascii art (AA) is an expression using characters with visual technique. In this paper, we set up an experiment to classify AA pictures by using character features and image features. We try to clarify which feature is more effective for a method to classify AA pictures. We proposed five methods: 1) a method based on character frequency, 2) a method based on character importance value and 3) a method based on image features, 4) a method based on image features using pre-trained neural networks and 5) a method based on image features of characters. We trained neural networks by using these five features. In the experimental result, the best classification accuracy was obtained in the feed forward neural networks that used image features of characters. Introduction ASCII art is an expression that is often used on electronic bulletin board or on other Internet communication as a non-verbal expression. A Rough Aging out: Graffiti Writers and Subcultural Drift Laura MacDiarmid1 Steven Downing2 University of Ontario Institute of Technology, Canada Abstract Many studies have provided rich ethnographic accounts of graffiti writing subculture, highlighting the roles of masculinity, resistance, and other dynamics that help shape these subcultures. In the current inquiry we examine the lives of a group of graffiti writers in a mid-sized city in southern Ontario, Canada. Our inquiry draws attention to the aging-out process of graffiti writers as they enter adulthood, seek employment and form relationships with non-graffiti writers, while at the same time striving to remain members of what it at its core a deviant subculture. Our analysis draws on life course, subcultural and drifts theories, illustrating the potential for combining these perspectives in future research on deviance in general. ________________________________________________________________________ Keywords: Graffiti, deviance, life course criminology, subcultural theory, drift. Vuk Cosic 3D ASCII, An Autobiography #0 Works and experiments with moving ASCII , ASCII audio, ASCII camera and such, are all directed towards conversions of contents between one media platform and an other, every time carefully directed at their full uselessness from the viewpoint of everyday high tech and all it's consequences. The ambition to basically convert the whole world into ASCII contains few conceptual and possibly theoretical premises that are subject of this text based communication unit. The idea to develop a three dimensional ASCII environment is deriving from the evolution of my other ASCII works presented in various web sites as well as in numerous shows and festivals, but I would like to present the 3D ASCII project also in the light of several art disciplines that are tangentially linked to such an endevour. These typically art related considerations are accompanied also by a number of non-artistic disciplines or lines of thought. Classical text based art forms For all my life I have been attracted to unorthodox creation and usage of writing. Every attempt to explore the space beyond text in lines, or between two pages in the same leaf, or between the letter and the paper that hold's it was much more meaningfull then the most skillfully described night dress in french nineteenth century novel or then an existential crisis in the soul of a more recent literary hero. #1 I remember while reading any prose how the spaces between words used to create landscapes with meandering rivers and naked trees. Later when I met the writings of Italo Calvino where he spoke of reading of landscapes as if they were text I saw good symmetry between these two thoughts. -

The male tilt of revolutionary processes and their histories has produced a definition of revolution that consistently fails women. This thesis aims to redefine revolution to incorporate women’s visions of societal transformation and the full achievement of their rights and freedoms. I argue that approaches to women’s revolutionary experiences are enriched by focusing on the roles of culture, consciousness, and unconventional revolutionary texts. Egypt is examined as a case study with a focus on the nation’s long history of women’s activism that took on new forms in the wave of socio-political upheaval since 2011. Using interdisciplinary, visual analysis, I examine graffiti created by women, or that depict women between 2011 and 2015 to reveal how gender was publicly re-imagined during a period of flux for Egyptian society. The historical and visual analysis contribute to a new definition of revolution, one that strives to achieve the total transformation of society by disrupting gendered consciousness to finally secure rights and freedoms for all.
