11. Ann is a rather flat and one‐dimensional character. Does her character fulfill the audience’s (and your) expectations for a female lead in a horror film? Explain.

12. Discuss how the men treated the only woman on the ship. What was your opinion of that treatment? What might it say about the role of men and women in society in 1933?

13. This film could be viewed as a beauty and the beast fairytale. Why and how did beauty kill the beast in the movie?
