Frederick Ashton’s delightful interpretation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a classic of The Royal Ballet’s repertory, and this production, recorded in 2017, features music from Felix Mendelssohn performed by the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House and designs from David Walker. Showcasing the extraordinary talents of dancers of The Royal Ballet, this recording stars Principal dancers Akane Takada as Titania and Steven McRae as Oberon. Also featured are First Soloist Valentino Zucchetti as Puck and Principal Character Artist Bennet Gartside as Bottom. Mario Campone, directeur général L’Institut de Cancérologie de l’Ouest de l’Institut de Cancérologie de l’Ouest Centre de Lutte contre le Cancer, l’ICO accueille chaque année plus de 40 000 patients sur ses deux établissements dans les Pays de la Loire : - A Nantes/Saint-Herblain : le site René Gauducheau - A Angers : le site Paul Papin Spécialisés en cancérologie, les professionnels de l’ICO accompagnent les patients à toutes les étapes de leur parcours de soins de manière personnalisée, innovante et multidisciplinaire. Outre les dimensions poétique, intellectuelle et spirituelle, le développement de l’orientalisme aux XIXe et XXe siècles est lié à un intérêt politique, commercial et scientiique pour l’étranger – un intérêt dont la colonisation est le soubassement idéologique dominant. Au XIXe siècle, le goût pour les voyages, associé au rêve, au désir d’échapper à soi et à la société, à la recherche d’une nature pure comme des formes primaires de la civilisation, suscite tout à la fois un intérêt de mode et une fascination collective des artistes et du public. Le voyage en Orient devient un genre pratiqué par les plus grands auteurs, comme Nerval ou Flaubert. Après son voyage au Maroc et en Algérie en 1832, Delacroix révèle que l’Afrique du Nord vaut le traditionnel pèlerinage en Italie. L’engouement pour l’histoire et la recherche d’une couleur locale originale contribuent à la mise en place d’un vocabulaire et d’un style susceptibles d’évoquer les mondes lointains.

The IPO, which is Israel’s premiere cultural ambassador, celebrates its 80th anniversary in the 2015/16 season. Mehta leads a diverse program of works by Beethoven, Ravel and contemporary Israeli composer Josef Bardanashvili on Sunday, November 15, at 7 p.m. at Symphony Center. The concert marks the IPO’s fifth Symphony Center appearance since 1996 with their most recent appearance led by Mehta taking place in 2014. Mehta, an acclaimed Beethoven interpreter, leads the IPO in the composer’s monumental Symphony No. 3 (Eroica) as the program’s centerpiece. As a ‘court’ city Munich had a marvellous musical tradition, particularly noted for its operatic performances. Indeed, music lovers owe King Ludwig II of Bavaria thanks for supporting the ‘impossible’ Richard Wagner at a vital point in his life. This level of state support continues today and Munich’s Opera House is one of Europe’s most important, a vibrant artistic and music milieu, and our formal visits will be enlivened by three wonderful operas, including Parsifal, at the Bavarian State Opera. In the early eighteenth century, Bavaria, in common with all the other German Electorates and Principalities, embraced the late Baroque of Italy, imported from Rome and Turin. By about 1725, French influence began to lighten this style with a particularly delicious variety of the Rococo, represented by the extraordinary Asam brothers' church of St John Nepomuk. Under the Elector-Duke, Maximillian III Joseph (1745 - 1777), Munich consolidated this ‘Golden’ rococo age, perhaps best typified by the exquisite Residenz Theatre by François de Cuvilliés and the delicate interiors of both Schleissheim and Nymphenburg just outside the city.

    MY FIFTY YEARS WITH RICHARD WAGNER I don't for a moment profess to be an expert on the subject of the German composer Wilhelm Richard Wagner and have not made detailed comments on performances, leaving opinions to those far more enlightened than I. However having listened to Wagnerian works on radio and record from the late 1960s, and after a chance experience in 1973, I have been fascinated by the world and works of Wagner ever since. I have been fortunate to enjoy three separate cycles of Der Ring des Nibelungen, in Bayreuth 2008, San Francisco in 2011 and Melbourne in 2013 and will see a fourth, being the world's first fully digitally staged Ring cycle in Brisbane in 2020 under the auspices of Opera Australia. I also completed three years of the degree course in Architecture at the University of Quensland from 1962 and have always been interested in the monumental buildings of Europe, old and new, including the opera houses I have visited for performance of Wagner's works. It all started in earnest on September 29, 1973 when I was 28 yrs old, when, with friend and music mentor Harold King of ABC radio fame, together we attended the inaugural orchestral concert given at the Sydney Opera House, in which the legendary Swedish soprano Birgit Nilsson opened the world renowned building singing an all Wagner programme including the Immolation scene from Götterdämmerung, accompanied by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra conducted by a young Charles Mackerras. This event fully opened my eyes to the Ring Cycle - and I have managed to keep the historic souvenir programme.
