  • Super Diamond BIO and Press
SUPER DIAMOND The Neil Diamond Experience "I've met them and I have been to their shows, they're wonderful!" Neil Diamond to Katie Couric on the Today Show, November 9, 2005 "Q. Super Diamond honors him..." "A. Who is Neil Diamond?" Question on Jeopardy, May 20th, 2005 San Francisco's Super Diamond has become one of the most popular live shows at major nightclubs, theaters, ballrooms and public events throughout the United States. For over a decade the band has consistently performed sell-out shows at venues such as Irving Plaza in New York, 930 Club in Washington D.C., Bimbo's in San Francisco, and House of Blues venues in Chicago, Los Angeles, San Diego, Cleveland and Dallas to name but a few. At these venues Super Diamond has generated an exuberant audience response previously unheard of for a tribute band. Many would say that Super Diamond has transcended the label of "tribute band" by passionately immersing themselves in Neil Diamond's huge repertoire and delivering a high-octane show of unforgettable classics such as Cracklin’ Rosie, Sweet Caroline, Forever in Blue Jeans and many others. Super Diamond has also performed at landmark venues and events such as Hollywood Bowl, Taste of Chicago, Fenway Park in Boston, Coors Field in Denver and numerous fairs, festivals and corporate celebrations across the country and overseas. Super Diamond front man The Surreal Neil, Randy Cordeiro, astonishes audiences with his live interpretation of the "real Neil." Randy created the charismatic character when he discovered he had the uncanny ability to capture not only Neil Diamond's voice, but also his mannerisms and performance style.

Gary James' Interview With Bernie Bollendorf Of The Rolling Stones Tribute The Glimmer Twins Ads by Google The Rolling Stones Keith Richards New Songs and Lyrics The Band Music The Glimmer Twins. Now there's a name that sounds familiar. It was given to Rolling Stones members Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. It also happens to be the name of the Rolling Stones Tribute Act, The Glimmer Twins. Bernie Bollendorf, who portrays Keith Richards in The Glimmer Twins, talked to us about his group. Q - Bernie, one thing I've noticed is that most Stones tribute acts include a Mick Taylor guitarist, not a Brian Jones guitarist. Only The Chesterfield Kings had a Brian Jones guy. Now, why is that? A - Mick Taylor was the most versatile guitar player they had. That's when they hit their stride, with Mick Taylor. He brought a different element to the band. This fabulous Blues lead guitar player that they had never had before. Brian Jones was a multi-talented instrumentalist, but Mick Taylor, like Ron Woods, was like a breath of fresh air. Mick Taylor, fabulous player, but looked like a microphone stand onstage. Ron Wood comes in, not as versatile, but a great player and he's jumpin' all over the stage, jumpin' on Jagger's back. A whole new life. Mick never really interacted with Keith onstage. Keith had his back to the crowd. He was tryin' to stand up the whole show. (laughs). Q - Are you one of those guys that tries to learn everything you can about Keith Richards? When his autobiography came out, did you run to the store to buy it? A - My girlfriend bought it for me.

  • An Intersystemic View of Intellectual Property and Free Speech
An Intersystemic View of Intellectual Property and Free Speech Mark Bartholomew* John Tehranian** ABSTRACT Intellectual property regimes operate in the shadow of the First Amend- ment. By deeming a particular activity as infringing, the law of copyright, trademark, and the right of publicity all limit communication. As a result, judges and lawmakers must delicately balance intellectual property rights with expressive freedoms. Yet each of these intellectual property regimes strikes the balance between ownership rights and free speech in a dramatically different way. This Article represents the first systematic effort to detail, analyze, and explain the divergent evolution of expression-based defenses in copyright, trademark, and right of publicity jurisprudence. The first Part of this Article carefully details the disparate treatment of First Amendment defenses in the three intellectual property regimes. On one side of the spectrum is copyright law. Many factors have rendered copyright law a feeble protector of free expression. On the other side of the spectrum is the recent right of publicity jurisprudence, which routinely invokes the First Amendment and features robust defenses. Somewhere in the middle stands trademark law, offering its own judge-made defenses but simultaneously clos- ing off those defenses for defendants engaging in commercial activity or activ- ity that is potentially confusing to consumers. The next Part attempts to explain why these three regimes accommodate the First Amendment in such different ways. The Article concludes that the divergence is not the result of careful deliberation, but rather the inadvertent product of different methods and histories of lawmaking. Because this diver- gence does not represent a logical or deliberate choice, reforms are needed.

When referenced in other works the hymns become lenses into the shifting web of American musical and national identity. This study reveals these complex interactions using cultural and musical analyses of six compositions from the 1930s to the present as case studies. The works presented are Virgil Thomson’s film score to The River (1937), Aaron Copland’s arrangement of “Zion’s Walls” (1952), Samuel Jones’s symphonic poem Let Us Now Praise Famous Men (1974), Alice Parker’s opera Singers Glen (1978), William Duckworth’s choral work Southern Harmony and Musical Companion (1980-81), and the score compiled by T Bone Burnett for the film Cold Mountain (2003).

  • The Secularization of the Repertoire of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, 1949-1992
THE SECULARIZATION OF THE REPERTOIRE OF THE MORMON TABERNACLE CHOIR, 1949-1992 Mark David Porcaro A dissertation submitted to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Department of Music (Musicology) Chapel Hill 2006 Approved by Advisor: Thomas Warburton Reader: Severine Neff Reader: Philip Vandermeer Reader: Laurie Maffly-Kipp Reader: Jocelyn Neal © 2006 Mark David Porcaro ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ii ABSTRACT MARK PORCARO: The Secularization of the Repertoire of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, 1949-1992 (Under the direction of Thomas Warburton) In 1997 in the New Yorker, Sidney Harris published a cartoon depicting the “Ethel Mormon Tabernacle Choir” singing “There’s NO business like SHOW business...” Besides the obvious play on the names of Ethel Merman and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the cartoon, in an odd way, is a true-to-life commentary on the image of the Salt Lake Mormon Tabernacle Choir (MTC) in the mid-1990s; at this time the Choir was seen as an entertainment ensemble, not just a church choir. This leads us to the central question of this dissertation, what changes took place in the latter part of the twentieth century to secularize the repertoire of the primary choir for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS)? In the 1860s, when the MTC began, its sole purpose was to perform for various church meetings, in particular for General Conference of the LDS church which was held in the Tabernacle at Temple Square in Salt Lake City. From the beginning of the twentieth century and escalating during the late 1950s to the early 1960s, the Choir’s role changed from an in-house choir for the LDS church to a choir that also fulfilled a cultural and entertainment function, not only for the LDS church but also for the American public at large.
