The following is a short list of sites that can be visited without a guide: Tel Aviv Neighborhood Walk – Wander the Neve Tzedek neighborhood, Florentin District, Kerem HaTeimanim, and Rothschild Boulevard to get a taste of the many layers of Tel Aviv. Walk the Sea-Front Promenade – Enjoy a relaxing stroll along the Mediterranean and take in the beach-side sights and sounds, north to the Tel Aviv Port and south to the Jaffa Port. Lunch and dinner on your own. Overnight: Hilton, Tel Aviv DAY 3 – TEL AVIV AT LEISURE MONDAY, MAY 24TH – (ON YOUR OWN) Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Day at Leisure – Enjoy a day of self-guided exploration and relaxation. The following is a short list of sites that can be visited without a guide: Diaspora Museum (Beit HaTfutsot) – Multi-disciplinary and interactive exhibits highlighting the ongoing story of worldwide Jewry from a large number of perspectives. Tel Aviv Museum of Art – Home to the largest art collection in Israel and containing works by both Israeli and international artists, this museum maintains permanent displays including the works of Cezanne, Chagall, Monet, Picasso, and more. Lunch and dinner on your own. Overnight: Hilton, Tel Aviv DAY 4 – SHFELA TUESDAY, MAY 25TH – (GUIDE & TRANSPORTATION) Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and check out. "Dig for a Day" – Participate in a live archaeological dig in Beit Guvrin National Park. City of David - Hezekiah's Tunnel – At the City of David, you’ll encounter fascinating archaeological discoveries from both the First and Second Temple periods. In Hezekiah's tunnels, you'll wade in the darkness through knee-deep water and learn about how King Hezekiah built this intricate system of tunnels in order to protect the freshwater Gihon Spring from the encroaching Assyrian forces. Make sure to bring shorts and water shoes for the full experience, but don’t worry – there’s an option for dry tunnels! The Western Wall (Kotel) – The holiest site in the world for the Jewish people, this section of wall is the sole remnant of the Second Temple. Jews come from all over the world to visit and pray at this holy site, and many choose to write a prayer on a slip of paper and leave it in the cracks of the wall. Lunch en route, on your own. Scavenger Hunt in the Old City -- Explore the Jewish Quarter on an interactive and exciting walking adventure. Compete with your family members as you go off-the-beaten-track and discover some of the hidden treasures of Jewish history that lie deep within the ancient stone walls of the Old City. Mahane Yehuda Market – At Jerusalem's largest and most highly-trafficked open-air market, you can taste wonderful foods from local vendors, buy local goods and produce, and enjoy the quintessentially Israeli chaos of market shopping. Lunch en route, on your own. Biblical Zoo – Famous for its beautiful landscapes and variety of informative animal exhibits, featuring over 160 diverse species. Read about the context in which each animal is mentioned in the bible, one of the unique features of this beloved attraction. Enjoy afternoon at leisure. Sound and Light Show at the Tower of David – Utilizing the walls of the citadel, this fabulous audio- visual spectacle recreates the history of Jerusalem or the story of King David using virtual reality images. Overnight: David Citadel, Jerusalem DAY 7 – JUDEAN DESERT FRIDAY, MAY 28TH – (GUIDE & TRANSPORTATION) Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Masada – After ascending to the top of this mountain fortress via cable car (options for hiking), you'll explore the fascinating remains of King Herod's palace, including the roman-style bath house and the ancient storerooms and watchtowers. Here you'll learn about the significance of the site and the mass suicide that occurred during the Roman siege on the fortress. Camel Excursion – A desert adventure, on four knobby-kneed legs. You'll come away from the ride with a new appreciation for these majestic beasts of burden (not to mention some great photo opportunities). Lunch and Swim/Float in the Dead Sea – Take a relaxing break from touring and experience the once- in-a-lifetime thrill of weightlessness as you float in the mineral-rich hypersaline water at the lowest spot on earth. Looking down into the walled city from above the fortification, you are transported back through centuries of historical battles for sovereignty over Jerusalem. Old City Christian Sites – Visit the Christian Quarter of the Old City and see some of Jerusalem's treasures of Christian history, including the Pools of Bethesda, the Via Dolorosa and 14 Stations of the Cross, and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Botanical Gardens – Right in the heart of the city lies this oasis of natural beauty, where visitors are invited to wander down the quiet paths and enjoy the different exhibits of plant-life from around the world. Gan HaShlosha National Park – Located in the Lower Galilee, this site is considered one of the most beautiful parks in the world, and some even believe that it is the real-life location of the Garden of Eden. Galita Chocolate Farm – Your visit to Galita at Kibbutz Deganya Bet includes a fascinating film, hands-on chocolate workshop, and fun chocolate activity for the whole family. Banias Nature Reserve – Home to the largest and most powerful waterfall in Israel, beautiful hiking trails through lush vegetation along the Hermon Spring, ancient shrines and the ruins of a temple built by Herod the Great, as well as an ancient flour mill still in operation today. Majd-al-Shams – A Druze village in the northern Golan Heights, where you’ll learn about the Druze community and their culture as you share a lunch of freshly made, traditional Druze food with a local family in their home. Lunch at the Druze Village is included. Rafting Adventure – A great opportunity to cool off and take in the serene landscape surrounding the Jordan River. The whole family will enjoy cruising in the cool water on a hot summer day.
