25 Avenue S.E. LRT Grade Separation Study Phase One: Education & Issues Scoping Stakeholder Report Back: What we heard Winter 2017 Project overview The City of Calgary is conducting a functional planning study of 25 Avenue S.E. and the Red Line LRT tracks crossing. This study will develop a recommended grade separation plan for the Red Line LRT tracks and 25 Avenue S.E. It will also identify short-term improvements in the study area. The final recommended plan will improve travel through this area for people driving, walking, cycling and taking transit. Phase one engagement overview The Engage Spectrum level for phase one of our engagement for this project is Listen and Learn, which is defined as, “We will listen to stakeholders and learn about their plans, views, issues, concerns, expectations and ideas.” We will listen to and learn from the ideas and concerns of the community, as they relate to the study area. We will learn about community priorities, which will help us develop the evaluation criteria that will be used to assess options for grade separation and short-term improvements. The engagement events and tactics for phase one included: - An in-person open house held on Tuesday, February 28, from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at Repsol Sport Centre. 68 people attended the event. - An online survey was available from February 27 through March 13 at calgary.ca/25avestudy where 45 people provide responses. - The project team also participated in the Inglewood/ Ramsay Project coordination events on March 9 and 11, where we talked with 150 residents over the two nights. -

The First Vintage Flying Wings of Canada at Calgary, Alberta Research by Clarence Simonsen The Calgary Lancaster FM136 The preparation for the long ferry flights of the surplus P-51 fighter aircraft from RCAF storage areas in Western Canada, spurred Garrison into the idea of saving a World War Two Lancaster bomber aircraft. The words of Garrison tell the true story of finding and saving FM136 for Calgary. Source http://www.bombercommandmuseum.ca/photos_lanc/photos_fm136.html "Before Milt Harradence and I began to ferry the Mustangs, we first visited the old RCAF Station Macleod facility, now used by Canadian Pacific Airlines Repair for storage and maintenance. We drove to Macleod on a Saturday afternoon 1960, my 23rd birthday. It is an emotional thing to visit an abandoned airfield that once was full of life, noise, and activity. Now, the silence was only broken by the constant whisper of the wind in the popular tress, the flapping of loose metal against a hangar wall and grass growing through breaks in the parking ramp, and abandoned runways. One segment of the hangar door system was open two feet and we squeezed into the area where our Mustangs were stored. Our Mustangs were nested beneath the large wings of Lancaster bombers, and a couple of Auster fuselages sat wingless against the back wall. Our Mustangs would be saved to fly another day but the B-25s and Lancaster Mk. Xs faced the final extinction, turned into cookware or aluminum siding for new homes It was this moment I decided to save a Lancaster Mk. -

CROSS HOUSE of Calgary's oldest homes and its asymmetrical design features includes several unusual architectural elements typical of the Queen Anne Revival period. These include a wood-shingled hip roof with cross gables, banks of bay windows on the front and side facades, a sandstone foundation, a "widow's walk" balustrade, and gingerbread trim. The interior has many of the original features, including hardwood flooring, fir used for the door and window trim as well as an elaborate open stairway with custom fabricated wood handrails, newels and balusters and two brick fireplaces. -

Vital Operations: Museums and Organizational Sustainability The Alberta Museums Association (AMA) 2020 Conference will examine the initiatives, strategies, and practices museums and cultural institutions undertake to build for the future. As museums and their communities face changing economic, political, social, and environmental circumstances, building sustainable organizations is key to the immediate and continuing vitality of the museum sector. In addition, museums now face new operational realities in light of COVID-19 and public health requirements, realities that are impacting everything from funding opportunities to means of engagement. Within the context of these shifting circumstances, Conference 2020 will explore organizational sustainability as one of the most important factors affecting a museum’s operational capacity, potential impact, and long-term growth. This virtual event will focus on the collections, programming, partnerships, exhibitions, leadership, and financial practices that can increase an organization’s ability to be responsive and adapt in changing and uncertain times. Page 1 of 6 Item # 7.1 Community Services Report to ISC: UNRESTRICTED SPC on Community and Protective Services CPS2019-0538 2019 May 07 Civic Partners Annual Report EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The City of Calgary partners with over 500 external organizations to deliver effective programs and services in targeted areas, develop and advance strategies, and construct and manage assets. Successful partnerships are characterized by shared results, interdependence, and mutual accountability. Under the Investing in Partnerships Policy, The City’s Civic Partners have more than $500,000 in operating or capital investment from The City. This report is focused on Civic Partners with operating funding from The City. The 2018 Civic Partner Annual Report is one aspect of a broader accountability framework for these significant City partners. It provides a snapshot of 19 Civic Partners’ key results in 2018, and how they adjusted to a changing economy, aligned with City strategies, leveraged The City’s investment, and allocated The City’s funding to support their operations. Partners managing and operating City-owned assets also report on capital development investments and plans. Through investment in Civic Partner organizations, Calgarians and visitors have access to acclaimed cultural attractions, programs and services in the arts and culture, conservation, history, and science. Civic Partners support the local economy through tourism and economic development; they offer a variety of recreational and sport opportunities; gather business, community, arts and culture leaders to collectively build a stronger Calgary; and provide opportunities to learn, gather, and discover. For most Civic Partners, the challenging economic conditions in 2018 continued to impact their operations.
