COMPENDIUM OF STYLE POINTS Cross-referenced terms are shown in blue. A abbreviations are truncated words, contractions words with intermediate letters omitted. Abbreviations were conventionally followed by a full point (min., sec., Corp.), contractions not (Mr, Dr, Ltd, ft, hr, mins). However, the rule is now rarely observed and full points are usually omitted even after abbreviations.
